To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Actually OP, tiredness aside, I used to cherish those wee hours with my baby boys when everyone else was asleep. It was like time stood still. It is summed up in this poem.

'My Baby Boy And Me' - Poem by Judy Emery

It's three A.M., they're all asleep,
And no one's here to see
As we rock slowly back and forth
My baby boy and me.

His little head is feather- light
Tucked up against my chin.
I hold his tiny hand in mine
And stroke his baby skin.

The old apartment house about us creaks and groans,
The clock hands creep around.
He snuggles close to me still
And makes his baby sounds.

I love those quiet hours so much
And cherish every one.
Store memories within my heart
For lonely nights to come.

All to soon he'll be grown up
His need for me gone.
But until then I still have time
For kisses and for song.

Time for quiet hours like this
With him cuddled in my arm,
Where I wish he'd always stay,
Protected, safe and warm.

And yet I know the day will come
When this tiny little hand
Will be much bigger than my own.
He'll grow to be a man.

But until then he's mine to love,
With no one here to see
As we rock slowly back and forth
My baby boy and me.

QueenArseClangers · 11/01/2018 09:38

May I suggest that you keep a journal OP?
A beautiful record of these wonderful feelings and times (like today) with your gorgeous son?

I think I can confidently say that everyone on this lovely thread is very happy for you but you might owe us some mascara! Flowers

seastargirl · 11/01/2018 09:38

That's the best thing I've ever read on here, huge congratulations!

Namechanged36 · 11/01/2018 09:39

Congratulations Flowers Really lovely post.

I also disagree with 'the rod' stuff. (Poor old Rod is getting a kicking this morning).

My Mum was very much of the 'don't spoil them' school of child rearing and I regret listening to her, but in my defence I was very young when I had DD.
I did change as she got older and became more confident to follow my instincts.

Well this is the perfect way to start my day. What a wonderful thing to read, just beautiful!

Many congratulations on becoming parents. It's a rocky road this parenting lark but (and it's a big but!) it's so, so worth it. Every sleepless night, every tear, every scraped knee and bumped head - all make up the fabric of parenting life. All the cuddles, smiles, kisses, 'I love you's', the random hugs, the picture of 'mummy and daddy' they do which makes you look 85 stone but you put it on the fridge anyway, when they hold your hand and look up at you, when you start seeing the world through their eyes. It's all just bloody wonderful.

This is your story starting.
