To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

So since tomorrow is two months exactly since we bought DS home, I thought I would update!

We had a really horrific first couple of weeks (some of you may have seen my post on the adoption board about DH struggling to bond with DS). We got some extra support and managed to get DS sleeping through the night for the most part, which made a huge difference to our wellbeing.

And now, life is so bloody good. DS is the apple of DHs eye, they are lovely together and have so much fun! He is back at work now and DS and I are very settled in our routine and things are just so lovely. He is the happiest little boy I have ever known. Every day he is full of smiles and laughter and omg he makes me laugh all the time. DSS dotes on him, and DS's face lights up when his big brother walks into the room.

So basically I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and wanted to share it all with you!

That's so nice to hear, simple pleasures are the best-so glad it's worked out for you-he is a lucky boy to have found you!

Just having a peruse through classics and came across my old thread, so thought I would post another update!

We are now 5 months in. DS is the love of my life. He sleeps beautifully, eats well and is trying new foods every day (as still on purees when he came to us). He is learning lots of new words and sounds and enjoying the sunshine more than anything in the world. He is 18 months old now! He was a baby for about a week after we brought him home then he turned into a full blown toddler. He has grown 7cm in less than 5 months!

His adoption order was granted without any issues so he is legally ours.

I am still in awe of him and how well he has adjusted. I am so so proud of him and still get tears in my eyes when I look at him and think "wow he is mine".

This is such a lovely thread, I'm really glad it's working out so well for the three of you. Congratulations on the Adoption Order being granted, we've been through that process twice, both times the Celebration Hearing was a very emotional day.

It’s almost seven years since I started this thread 😱 can’t seem to access my old username (might have been a different email address!) but I just came across this and thought I’d give an update for all my son’s fans 😆😆

Little dude is now 8 years old. He has multiple diagnoses and attends an independent special school with a therapeutic approach to education and he is THRIVING. Working a year ahead in almost every area of the curriculum, but most importantly, he is the boy who puts a smile on everyone’s face every single day. He has the kindest heart I’ve ever known. I left my ex during lockdown, he had some contact with DS for a little while but was a terrible father and couldn’t cope with his additional needs and got angry and aggressive. Sadly he assaulted DS almost three years ago and contact ceased immediately (there was already police and SS involvement due to his prior struggles with DS but whilst they were trying to encourage him to accept parenting support, he didn’t engage - after the assault I told SS he would never see my son again and when they contacted him he told them he didn’t want to see DS as he “just needed to focus on himself and his older son and girlfriend”).

Obviously this has been a lot of additional trauma for DS to deal with but with excellent support from school he’s finally come through the other side and is just HAPPY. I’m so proud of him every day. He makes my heart burst.

I realised as I clicked into this that I hadn't been fully up to date at the time and did the "Next" through each of your posts OP. I was a little taken aback by the fact that your then DP had struggled to bond with the baby and was delighted that things seemed to improve.

What a shock it must have been for you when his true colours showed, but well done for removing him from your and your son's lives.

It sounds like your son has everything he could ever need in you and he sounds an absolute joy. That's all down to you!

I remember your first thread! Your ds is the same age as mine, it's a wonderful age! How lucky you both are to have found each other, the universe really does deliver!

Also, good riddance to the exh! You've had a lucky escape there!
