To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

This is just beautiful. Has cheered me up after a really rubbish night (8mo sleep has gone out the window) don't ever feel bad for having him in bed with you. DD starts off in her cot but is in our bed by 5 after her bottle and it's just lovely to have those cuddles with her, she won't want to do this forever!
I'm so, so pleased for you op. Thanks

How wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

I don't believe in this making a rod stuff. I believe in giving small baby the comfort and human contact it needs. My first dc didn't like to be in bed with us, she very much likes her own space.. Second dc Co slept in Co sleeper cot for ages.. And loves sleeping with us. But now at 5 she naturally also prefers her own space... And very very rarely comes in!

Your post has made me feel joyous this morning op, and yes cry.

Ah yay OP! What a lovely thread. I've got a 12m old too, aren't they amazing?! I'm sure you gave him lots of reassurance with the skin to skin.

I'd love to hear how you're getting on (when you've time!). Lots of love and luck to you all.

I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Made me well up. You are both lucky to have found each other. Cherish every moment.

thethoughtfox · 11/01/2018 09:26

You keep your baby in bed with you as long as you both need and want it. It only becomes problem if you stop each other from sleeping or if you want them out. Dr Sears the attachment parenting guy, says to keep them in as long as they want it and some of his kids were in their bed till they were 7.

MrsMozart · 11/01/2018 09:27

Aw. Lovely.

He’s your baby it’s your choice how you sleep. Wonderful age to have got him at my 13 month old is a treasure. Have fun xx

CiderwithBuda · 11/01/2018 09:27

Such a lovely thread. Huge congratulations.

I was going to say not to worry about the whole making a rod thing. So glad to see others saying the same. It makes huge sense to me that it would help with attachment issues.

My DS is not adopted and we didn't co-sleep when he was a baby but as he got older he needed it - from around 3. We gave in finally and he slept with me and DH went in the spare room. He slept with me for a good few years. I remember a friend telling me I needed to stop him. I replied that I figured he would stop when he was ready as otherwise it would be a bit awkward when he started bringing girls home! He stopped himself whe he was around 7. He is now 16 and wouldn't dream of it and submits to hugs only in special occasions so make the most of it!
