To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

This is ace! So chuffed for you op.

AnathemaPulsifer · 11/01/2018 08:52

Thank you for sharing, that’s lovely. Reminds me as well how lovely they are at that age.

LizzieSiddal · 11/01/2018 08:55

Do what your child needs. They are all different.

We coslept with DD2 until she was 2 and a half. It’s what she needed and I never regret it for a moment. She’s 24 now and look back at that time and feel very warm and fuzzy. Grin

Love to you all! What a lovely thread to get up to. 💚

Re the 'rod'. One of the best prices of parenting advice was to consider whether you're worried about a one thing be as it's an issue for you now or because you worry that it might still be happening in years time. If the latter accept it for now and deal with it when it does bother you.

Bochdew · 11/01/2018 09:04

How lovely OP! Fwiw my 3.5 year old starts off in her own bed every night but comes in to me in the early hours, sleepy snuggles are the best!

AtlanticWaves · 11/01/2018 09:07

Fantastic.

I love love love the little giggles when they're asleep. Really melt my heart.

I co-slept until 2.5 with my eldest and 3 with my youngest.

And on difficult nights (like last night when we got woken up 8 bloody times) one or other of them will end up in with me.

WhooooAmI24601 · 11/01/2018 09:07

Oh my goodness this is beautiful! Huge congratulations OP, what a gorgeous way to start your Thursday!

I was adopted at 10 years old and my parents were very 'alternative' (for those days). My Mum was incredible and whenever I needed her in the night she'd be there beside me in my bed for the whole night. I'm sure she must have been knackered at times but she just danced to my tune and taught me that no matter when or how or why I needed them, they'd be there. Co-sleeping with a 10 year old sounds batshit but she was certain I needed constancy and contact and absolute devotion. 26 years later she and my Dad are still my absolute heroes. I have two children of my own and the reason I'm able to love, cherish and nurture them as well as I do is down to the love they surrounded me with as a child. Never underestimate how valuable and important your unconditional love is to him.x
