To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Congratulations! Lovely post!

RadioDorothy · 11/01/2018 20:59

Wow. I read everything with such a jaded cynical eye these days, and I'm not in the least bit sentimental.

But your posts had me grinning like a sap at my phone screen and wiping away a little tear.

Congratulations, and how lovely that you found one another.

PhoebefromFriends · 11/01/2018 21:00

Best. Thread. Ever.
Such a beautiful moment for you to treasure xxx

I almost didn’t read this thread, but I’m really glad I did now.
Congratulations.Flowers

My son is nearly 20. I cut his hair for him today and I had a flashback of cuddling him and stroking his hair a million times. I still wished I could have done it a million times more.
Don’t waste a single moment Smile

Lndnmummy · 11/01/2018 21:03

Aw skin to skin and co sleeping is lovely and will help you all to connect and will make him feel safe and loved. And the rod thing, I don’t know. My son slept with us until he was 5, then decided he wanted his own space. I still miss it and think back very fondly to our snuggles.

ferntwist · 11/01/2018 21:06

Aw how lovely. Congratulations! What have you been up to today?

Pixie2015 · 11/01/2018 21:09

Wonderful to read enjoy the cuddles sounds an amazing start to your new chapter x

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/01/2018 21:10

DS2 (27)'s hair has started growing back after chemo, I stroked it and it feels just like baby hair. It took me straight back to the tiny baby he used to be.

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/01/2018 21:27

Oh perfectly that made me cry too. Good luck to your ds 💐

Lovebehindthefool · 11/01/2018 21:34

OP it gets even better Grin My adopted child has been home nearly 2yrs now and recently has begun holding my face, looking into my eyes and saying “ahhhh...Mummy” lovingly! They are 2.5yrs now. They begin with the PROPER cuddles about a year in...the proper “I’m relaxing fully in your arms because I trust you so much” kind of cuddles. Sigh. Flowers congratulations!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/01/2018 22:12

Thanks Merry, he's been in remission since summer, he also has a couple of other health issues, one he was born with and one he's had since he was 14.

purpleviolet1 · 11/01/2018 22:52

That's brought a tear to my eye! Massive congrats

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/01/2018 23:17

perfectly he has so much to deal with. I hope all goes well. I love the sound of his beautiful hair 💐

Ladybirdbookworm · 12/01/2018 00:42

Congratulations

mineallmine · 12/01/2018 00:53

This is so lovely. Congratulations OP. My 7 year old dd, adopted at 14 months, is currently curled up against me.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 12/01/2018 01:00

Aww what a gorgeous thread! Congratulations @BangPippleGo & yes: thank you for bringing joy to the depressing wasteland that AIBU so often can be.

You cuddle your lovely wee boy as much as you like!

Rainbowmother · 12/01/2018 01:28

I read it twice 💗 the best thing to read before going to sleep. Congratulations

ohfourfoxache · 12/01/2018 01:46

I’m so thrilled for you Thanks

Forget this “rod for your own back” rubbish. You will NEVER look back and say “I should have cuddled my kid less”. It just doesn’t happen.

Enjoy this precious time x

BeaLola · 12/01/2018 02:14

Congrats to the 3 of you from a fellow adopter.

My son is now 10 ! And was 4.5 when he came to us, he snuggled in our bed then and he comes and snuggles me at a weekend now. You can never hug too much. He makes me smile and feel proud to be his Mummy every day - today he got in the car for the school run singing "You are my Mummy, the very best Mummy " to the tune of Can't Take My Eyes off of You - just adore him .

Wishing you lots more love and snuggles.x

justilou1 · 12/01/2018 02:46

Congratulations! This is the loveliest post I have ever read, and I'm not crying - I've been cutting up onions!!!

UniversityAlreadyQuestionMark · 12/01/2018 02:55

Oh wow! The best thread ever xx

CatRen27 · 12/01/2018 02:58

Gorgeous post, he is a lucky little poppet that's for sure. Your calmness and joy shines through so brightly and will get you through anything together.

I think someone's chopping onions nearby!

Congratulations Flowers
