To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Congratulations!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Wishing you all the happiness in the world.

Atticusss · 11/01/2018 13:53

Congratulations!

I agree cosleeping is a fantastic idea to facilitate attachment. Especially as the alleged risks associated aren't relevant at 12 months. May I also suggest getting a decent baby carrier to give you more bonding time when out and about? Find your local sling library or sling group on Facebook if you haven't already.

Sweet baby Jesus, that poem!!

Congratulations OP, enjoy those lovely lovely nights snuggled up with your son.

I co-slept with DS2 and those nights are still the most vivid and favorite memories of his infancy. I would wake each morning to his fuzzy little head under my chin, and his breath against my neck. He slept like a cherub and would wake with his big eyes staring at mine.

He's 3 1/2 now and still creeps into our bed and snuggling him is by far my most favorite way to wake up.

I would really recommend you email yourself a screenshot of your OP, so that you can look back in years to come.

A million congratulations on your little family ThanksGrin

My super independent 18 year old dd had a bad tummy upset a while back and asked me to stay with her in her bed. We didn’t actually snuggle and I caught the bloody bug but still... Wink

Battyboo82 · 11/01/2018 14:09

Oh that's lovely. Please will you give us a few more updates now and then?

Megs4x3 · 11/01/2018 14:09

How lovely. I'm so pleased for you. One night in your bed isn't going to do him any harm, and I see what you say about co-sleeping. You might want to discuss that with your DH first though. :-) Wishing you much joy of your little treasure.

What a stunning post. This is Mumsnet at it's very best!!

Surely it needs to be considered for 'Mumsnet Classics' ??

DIngdongmerryilyonhigh · 11/01/2018 14:09

Just read that poem - oh dear god I'm sobbing like a fool! :)

juddyrockingcloggs · 11/01/2018 14:11

It's not normal to talk about first nights with your children....

Eh??

Speakeasy22 · 11/01/2018 14:11

Thanks for posting this OP. You’ve made a lot of mumsnetters turn all warm and fuzzy remembering the baby stage. Good luck to your family. x

I may sobbed a little at your posts !

Lizzie48 · 11/01/2018 14:15

That's just so precious, thank you for sharing this. DH and I had both our DDs placed at 1 (they're 8 and 5 now, and birth siblings). It's such a special moment after the long wait for a child, isn't it??

Congratulations to the 3 of you. Thanks

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 11/01/2018 14:15

Cath2907 · 11/01/2018 14:21

I made a rod for my back with lots of co-sleeping and cuddles. That means my 7yr old DD regularly hops into my bed for a cuddle in the morning. Occasionally her wriggling is a nuisance but mostly I love it! She smells so lovely and is so warm and soft. Enjoy!

MavisPike · 11/01/2018 14:22

congratulations !
its the best feeling in the world isn't it

I've a wee lump in my throat too! What a lovely post!
I take my hat off to people who adopt, my friend adopted a wee girl and had a hard time to begin with. Now, thanks to their love and support, she's developed in leaps and bounds!
Away to cuddle my DS(4) and remember when he gets into bed and slaps my face gently to wake me up, that soon he won't be coming in for snuggles!
