To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Such a heartwarming thread!

Many many congratulations. You must be absolutely delighted!

BangPippleGo · 11/01/2018 15:05

Wow wasn't expecting all these responses, thank you all so much!

DS has been happy smiley and content all day long. Wouldn't nap in his cot but slept in my arms for about 30 minutes and then DH did a swap for the next 30 minutes Grin he's such a delight. We've just spent ages with a muslin in my mouth flinging it about, making him laugh so hard he got the hiccups!

DH is off work until the end of feb half term and I've got the rest of the year off...only plans so far are to take DS and DSS to the London Aquarium in a few weeks, and lots of snuggles. That's my year sorted!

Also lots of soft play with him and my nephew and godson Grin

Congratulations. Enjoy the first days of the rest of your life. Flowers

That made me a little emotional. I am so very pleased for you and for him. It’s amazing to hear about the lovely life you are giving to that little boy. I have a one year old and it made me stop stressing the small things and remember how wonderful it is to have him pottering around with me.
All the luck in the world for you. CakeBrewWineFlowers

MerryInthechelseahotel · 11/01/2018 15:11

You sound like a natural op and keep going by your instinct. You want as much close contact as possible to bond with your gorgeous baby boy! Congratulations and wishing you so many happy days. My ds came to me at 18months and this is bringing back lovely memories for me. He's a full of life 9 year old nowSmile

applebags · 11/01/2018 15:12

Congratulations! What a lovely start to family life for both you and him x

Chapterandverse · 11/01/2018 15:16

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

And that rod? My son is 13 now and still loves getting in for a quick snuggle with me.

I hope he never wants to stop Smile

IAmNotThrowingAwayMyShot · 11/01/2018 15:18

Please keep updating, OP! It’s so, so lovely to read. I’m crying but in a good way. Your little boy is so lucky and he is going to have a fantastic life. Flowers

And when the time comes that you need support or advice (because all kids are a pain sometimes!) please come back for that too. You have a million MNers who have set aside their snark and will support you, and that in itself is a miracle!

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 11/01/2018 15:20

Congratulations, just adorable Smile

AtlanticWaves · 11/01/2018 16:17

He sounds totally adorable.

DS1 used to giggle madly at a muslin being swished on the floor - as my dad found out by mistake when cleaning something up!

AtlanticWaves · 11/01/2018 16:19

@Parney

"We co-sleep and I don’t know how this will continue when DD joins us in a few short weeks but we’ll figure it out."

We split - DH co-slept with DS1 in DS1's room and I co-slept with DS2.

Mainly because I have 2 terrible sleepers and it was the only way anyone could get any sleep!

We didn't do it from birth (so DS1 didn't feel too displaced) but when DS2 was a few weeks old and I was utterly exhausted.

Other option when they're very little is you co-sleep with the DC either side of you and DH sleeps elsewhere...but it does mean you get all the wakeups!

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 11/01/2018 16:31

it's so nice to make them laugh :)

It may or may not be the case that my super-cool 15 year old and 12 year old still start each school day by plopping down in bed on either side of me for a hug and burrowing under the covers. If I was to tell you whether that happened they've have to kill me.

Katy75 · 11/01/2018 16:38

Congratulations mum and dad Smile xx
