I’ve just learned that Casablanca is not in South America at all and is, in fact in Morocco! Who knew 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Anyone else got any tidbits they learned far too late in life?

I found out just the other week when I stayed there that holyhead is an island of the the island of Anglesey (although they are connected now) so there you go 🙄

OttilieKnackered · 10/10/2017 21:15

Portsmouth is absolutely a real island. There's not a huge expanse of water between it and the mainland, but water there is, all the way round. You have to cross water in one way or another to get here.

mrsRosaPimento · 10/10/2017 21:18

Gingerlemontea, the sun is the only dark object in our solar system as all the other contents reflect light and it doesn't. I hope I got that right. Ds1 watches a lot documentaries.

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 21:20

Soo im assuming you enter portsmouth over a bridge?

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 21:20

Or paddleboat Grin

SAVE THE TERRACOTTAE

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 21:25

Still laughing at those poor tortoises-like-creatures murdered for nothing more than to become terracotta pots at your friendly local garden centre 😂😂

Thanks for the explanation of Andrew and Freddie.

OhOurBilly · 10/10/2017 21:38

To add a bit of context. We were in a B&M bargains, looking at gardening stuff, and he goes "so are these fake ones, then?" about some clearly plastic, lurid orange, shrubbery tubs.

Which led to a whole "what are you on about dh?" conversation, as I was mystified. "Fake what? They're made from plastic." "So not real terracotta then? Good, I wouldn't buy them, poor things, and I'm surprised at you not being bothered!" (I once made him boycott Nandos for about six months on the pretext that they were cruel to chickens, when really I was just sick of going to Nandos.) So he was shocked that I didn't seem to care about the poor little terracottas.

There are no true words to describe how brilliant the terracotta thing is

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2017 21:41

That is even better
Please get him a live one as a pet

Sunbeam18 · 10/10/2017 21:43

The terracotta revelation is GOLD

AmazingGrace16 · 10/10/2017 21:44

Is champagne, moet, brut and cava all the same thing?

RJnomore1 · 10/10/2017 21:48

No...

Champagne is fizzy wine made in France, moet is a brand of champagne, Brut is adescription meaning dry wine and cava is made in Spain.

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 21:48

Stealth has hit the nail on the head “Please get him a live one as a pet”

You could put it on a lead through the hole in the base and he could pull it around behind him.

Does he know now that terracotta isn’t murdered tortoise or did you leave him in the dark?

BewareOfTheToddler · 10/10/2017 21:48

I once worked with someone who thought Pakistan was the capital of India. No joke. Of all the two to confuse....

Mind you, I'm in no position to judge. I had to ask DP whether an owl was a bird a few months ago you can imagine the look on his face. My misidentification of animals in children's books is legendary but this was apparently a new low even by my standards.Blush

AmazingGrace16 · 10/10/2017 21:49

So cava is not posh champers? Huh ok...learn something new every day!

StealthPolarBear · 10/10/2017 21:50

I assumed tigers were lady lions until into my twenties. Dh put me right with lots of laughing. But I am excelled by terracotta man

RJnomore1 · 10/10/2017 21:51

It says it all that I know nothing about geography but all about the wine 😂

Cava is usually much cheaper then champagne. It's sometimes nicer though.

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 21:51

@BewareOfTheToddler that’s great! What was an owl in your mind, if not a bird?

If it’s any consolation, I was most surprised when I first saw an ocelot in a zoo because a cat appeared where I was expecting a lizard to be.

@OhOurBilly so did he have to come out and describe what a terracotta was, as in explain he thought it was a tortoisey/turtley thing and you had to explain the whole thing! I'm fascinated! Grin

OhOurBilly · 10/10/2017 22:03

I should get him a whole colony. Tell him they were released in a free the terracotta campaign and that I've offered to host them. I now have visions of Bill and Ben leading the charge

I was honestly too busy laughing to disillusion him. I had to sit on the floor and hope my pelvic for held up as I was pregnant at the time. Grin

I only found out about pineapples a couple of weeks ago (whilst marvelling at the 'pineapple trees' in Spain).

Just to confuse the Penrith is in Cumbria not Cornwall people, there is an area of Cornwall called Penwith.

x2boys · 10/10/2017 22:18
