I’ve just learned that Casablanca is not in South America at all and is, in fact in Morocco! Who knew 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Anyone else got any tidbits they learned far too late in life?

I’m enjoying these they make me feel less silly. I’m sure I have plenty more - I did know someone who thought Iraq was somewhere between Birmingham and Wales Confused

I taught a class of 12/13 year olds last week. Half of them genuinely didn't realise that ducks can fly (having only mostly seen them swimming or waddling about pecking for bread I suppose?!)

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 17:05

@StrongerThanIThought76 I only learned this much later than I should have!!!

TheQueenOfWands · 10/10/2017 17:14

I didn't know Casablanca was a real place until recently.

Thought it was just for the film. Like Narnia or Westeros.

RandomUsernameHere · 10/10/2017 17:18

Until recently I thought penguin was pronounced PINGuin. Still don't quite believe it.

WristBitch · 10/10/2017 17:24

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 17:31

Soubriquet · 10/10/2017 17:38

The following always comes up

Pineapples grow on the ground in big fields

It's hang gliding NOT hand gliding

LonginesPrime · 10/10/2017 17:49

Also my sister only realised when she called my grandma worthless that it’s not the same thing as priceless!

Brilliant! Grin

And MissFlashpants - I'm curious: what did you think 'misled' meant then?

EdmundCleverClogs · 10/10/2017 17:59

Oh, I know someone who thought broccoli grew on actual trees. Not a child, an adult in their 20's.

Not really another 'didn't know', more a silly 'didn't connect' one. I completely missed in Game of Thrones that Bran is probably called what he is, because it's Welsh for raven. Read all the books and watch up to about series 3 until the dots connected Hmm.

Battytwatty · 10/10/2017 18:04

I thought Freddy Flintoff and Andrew Flintoff were brothers, or cousins. I actually thought one was better looking than the other. My cricket loving DH was astonished

MiddlingMum · 10/10/2017 18:05

I was well into my teens before I realised that unicorns weren't simply extinct Blush
