I’ve just learned that Casablanca is not in South America at all and is, in fact in Morocco! Who knew 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️
Anyone else got any tidbits they learned far too late in life?

I don’t know if this counts because DS is only 6 but he asked if the worms came already in our new turf or whether we had to go to Tesco to get them Smile

Omg I thought capers were tiny fish!!!

MoodyMumOfOne · 10/10/2017 18:25

Portsmouth an island? Eh what??!!

Hugomcwooferton · 10/10/2017 18:34

I only know that capers aren’t fish because in pitch perfect 2 bumper sets out a fancy picnic for fat Amy and says ‘I ordered capers didn’t know what they were but apparently they’re like salty peas’..

x2boys · 10/10/2017 18:43

But apparently you can eat fish with a lemon and caper sauce so Google informs me I think i might have mixed capers up with anchoviesConfused

Hugomcwooferton · 10/10/2017 18:45

@x2boys I think tartare sauce is made from capers?

x2boys · 10/10/2017 18:46

Are so is that te lemon and caper thing?Blush

MollyHuaCha · 10/10/2017 18:55

Capers are one of my three all time favourite foods! Getting excited because this is the first time I’ve ever heard them mentioned on MN.

xqwertyx · 10/10/2017 19:01

How to spell my middle name.

I think i was about 20 Blush

BeeFarseer · 10/10/2017 19:08

I also thought capers were tiny fish.

I also once went hunting for conkers... in the pine woods. Took me far too long to realise why I wasn't finding any.

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 19:10

@xqwertyx are you serious? Grin

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 19:13

I’ve never actually tried a caper, but I do know they’re not little fish.

Actually I have another...it was only earlier this year that I discovered the phrase ‘to make ends meet’ was not ‘to make ends meat’ - I thought it was an old saying for money or something Hmm

A trip to France last year informed me to my surprise that Dunkirk is not in Scotland. And yy to lots of these - 'mizulled' (I thought it meant confused), instead of misled. And capers - if not little fish then what are they?

xqwertyx · 10/10/2017 19:28

@TheDodgyEnd unfortunately I am being serious. I always hated my middle name and refused to ever use it in school etc, it isn’t even a hard name to spell! It is one that can be spelt in numerous different ways and I never knew which way it should be.

This is no excuse of course, I’m going to leave now....Grin

Lweji · 10/10/2017 19:31

How to spell my middle name.

I had always spelled one of my dad's surnames the "correct" way. It was only recently that I noticed that his ID card had a different spelling.

WalkingInMyShoes · 10/10/2017 19:33

I thought Freddy Flintoff and Andrew Flintoff were brothers, or cousins.

Wait what?
I've just discovered they are the same person thanks to this thread Blush

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 19:33

Yes capers are in tartare sauce I knew that I dunno why i thought they were peppercorns

AdalindSchade · 10/10/2017 19:34

Capers are berries of some kind. Is it because you often get capers and anchovies together on pizza?

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 19:35

HA walkinginmyshoes Grin every day is a school day huh

TheDodgyEnd · 10/10/2017 19:35

See? This is actually becoming a very educational thread Grin

Caper? Portsmouth being an island? I feel like my life is a lie.

Thankfully this took me not until recently to figure out (though still far too long).

You know how the is pronounced 'thee' and 'ther'? Well stupid ol' me used to write them differently every time depending on how I would say it in my head or how 'posh' it sounded. Obviously I know it's the same word now! Blush

MrsJayy · 10/10/2017 19:40

Wait a minute ....a poster thought Dunkirk was in Scotland Grin
