Just been outside the feed the cat who has his food in the outhouse. There, hanging from the old pipework are 3 absolutely huge cocoons. They are hideous! Black and more than 4 inches long. They weren't there yesterday. What the hell is going to come out? AIBU to be very worried?

Who has read this thread and considered whether we should just bomb the Midlands? Be honest now.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 14/05/2015 07:42

Tweet these folks a pic, they'll help I'm sure:

Buglife

TwartFaceBeetj · 14/05/2015 07:45

Yes bomb it. sorry but it's for everyones safety, we'll have to send in the military to help with evacuation.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 14/05/2015 07:47

Totally place marking...

sandgrown · 14/05/2015 07:49

Please do not destroy them. If they are moths they will hatch soon and fly off. They will not harm you. If you have a local zoo/butterfly house ask them for advice.

southeastastra · 14/05/2015 07:50

cute, keep posting updates, try and film it hatching

LongDistanceLove · 14/05/2015 07:54

Im hoping the poster who said little unicorns would appear was right. How nice that would be.

StillaChocoholic · 14/05/2015 08:02

You need to set up a live feed so we can see what happens Grin

aprilshowersbringmayflowers · 14/05/2015 08:05

don't poke it/hurt it! it's clearly rare, as none of us know what it is...

LouisaJF · 14/05/2015 08:06

Surely you need to call pest control or similar. They can identify it and either safely remove it or tell you what to do with it.

TwartFaceBeetj · 14/05/2015 08:08

It's type of hawk moth as a few pp have mentioned already

I agree, DO NOT POKE.

Poor things. They are not harming you.

yet

Please just leave them alone, they will hatch in due course.

I can't understand folk who go around killing things for fun Sad

icelollycraving · 14/05/2015 08:08

Don't poke it/cut it!! You will hurt whatever is growing. It's babies!!

flanjabelle · 14/05/2015 08:12

Eugh. Fuck that.

CatsCantTwerk · 14/05/2015 08:13

I think I would be moving out!

I don't think it is fungus, it is a cocoon of some sort.

YouPooPooBumBum · 14/05/2015 08:14

A Mogwai/gremlin?

DustBunnyFarmer · 14/05/2015 08:14

Meechimoo · 14/05/2015 08:16

Where's Sigourney Weaver? For the love of God, we need Sigourney

Skiptonlass · 14/05/2015 08:18

It looks like a king Alfred's cake fungus.

MTBMummy · 14/05/2015 08:18

Definitely don't poke! Something is just going from one form to another

My guess is a beetle of some sort, we had some huge ones in our old house.

dillite · 14/05/2015 08:19

Can't we just bomb Midlands just to be on the safe side?

Skiptonlass · 14/05/2015 08:21

If you take a knife and cut one open, mand it has sort of silver rings inside, it's a king Alfred's cake ....Daldina concentrica.

Go get a knife! How can you resist??
