Whoops, not the Louvre, the Jeu de Paume as was back then.

Sagethyme · 08/03/2015 21:33

Oh it did work! Wow i've learnt something tonight! Grin

Madeyemoodysmum · 08/03/2015 21:36

I love Waterhouse but this is my fave.

Its very sexy and I love the faces and the beauty of the bodies. Both the Male & female.

Shakey1500 · 08/03/2015 21:37

Same as ohmymimi (I think we have "conversed" before though can't remember about what?!)

I think I would burst into tears if I stood before it in RL

yes thats a beat madey I wonder where it is?

Shakey1500 · 08/03/2015 21:40

This also because it reminds me of Sondheim's Sunday in The Park with George, a musical written about the artist Georges Seurat

Manchester art gallery. Beyond repair. A lot of his are at the Tate. But a awful lot are privately owned. Shame.

EBearhug · 08/03/2015 21:48

I love that Monet - haven't seen it before. Must go to the Louvre some day.

Isn't the Lady of Shalott by Waterhouse.

enjoyingscience · 08/03/2015 21:51

I love Isabella and the pot of basil. Such a twisted weird story, and a beautiful painting.

(There's a severed head under the basil)

Love this thread, really enjoying looking up the paintings I don't know.

Makes me wish a had an hour to go and have a poke around a gallery.

Going to try and put the images in, my link was ambiguous.

Jacques-Louis David's 'The Death of Marat (French: La Mort de Marat or Marat Assassiné)' is pretty stunning and might be in my top 10.

Sootgremlin · 08/03/2015 22:33

I would love to see this in the flesh. It has such mystery in it, the rider has such a serene expression but there is darkness and tension in it too

EBearHug - no, but thank you - it's very like it. Have a feeling it's on a boat. Damn memory, no longer working! Sad

Frikadellen · 08/03/2015 23:02

This one it hangs on my wall it is by Linda Charles.

I also adore many of Miro's minimalist wall pictures. Funny in a way as a child when my dad used to drag me to art galleries I hated abstracts.

SomewhereIBelong · 09/03/2015 10:13

thanks MN - would be good to be able to look through it - so many great recommendations.

I have another sculpture - I cry when I see pictures of it - it is a Monument to unborn children in Slovakia called The child who was never born by Martin Hudá?eka.

It is beautiful, soooo beautiful and EXTREMELY moving

I love those pictures CaulkheadUpNorth very much my sort of thing...

TurnItIn · 09/03/2015 15:25

I don't really have a favourite as my tastes have changed throughout my life, but I have a few paintings that have always stayed important to me

The Leighton one is very special to me as I bought a print a couple of months after I met my XDH and it called out to me so much - it's her position I think, I sit like that all the time and I was so in love at the time! It might have all gone wrong but I still love the painting and the way it made me feel back then.

The Tadema one makes me feel all hot and blurry, as if I've been sitting on that hot marble in the sun. Bliss!

MrsWembley · 09/03/2015 16:18

Somewhere, you just made me cry in public!Blush

I was just thinking, me hormonal? Me, emotional? Nah, course not! Tough as nails, me!
