do you ever find left over notes in shopping torlleys or elsewhere? i

i am vaguely intrigued by these as identified in teh times
"Discarded notes are rubbish to most people, but not for worldwide subscribers to Found, which reprints them. The magazine?s publisher, Davy Rothbart, gets bundles sent to his office in Michigan. Laura Kwerel, a radio producer in Washington, was ?overwhelmed? after reading one issue. ?I realise now,? she says, ?that there is more humanity in a discarded grocery list than in a thousand-page novel.? Some people need to get out more. "

Bear, technically it is unspecified in the hardcopy of the catalogue -it is described as "cord effect fleece". Yet the website calls it a "throw". Mysterious....

I wonder if the list writer wanted it as a throw (decoratively draped over their sofa)or a blanket (to snuggle up under whilst watching Corrie)? Is the answer in the list?

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 21/02/2006 12:40

back off teach, it's an acceptable variant and is closer to the origin: lath - Old English, meaning hostile or spiteful.

lots of tissues and whisky - could be a sofa session in the offing

JackieNo · 21/02/2006 13:26

Someone with the flu who needs a hot toddy and a lot of nose-blowing. Think you might be right about the fleece rather than throw. Maybe we should try going round Argos and picking up any discarded lists from there (and the form thingies Argos provide for writing down your numbers). Could add a whole new dimension to this thread...

bettythebuilder · 21/02/2006 18:31

Got one, got one.
I did a very covert and cunning manoeuvre to swipe the list from the bottom of my (carefully) chosen torlley and stash it at the bottom of my wine carrier.
Was it worth it? I'll let you decide...
(Written in black pen on lined paper torn from a spiral bound notepad)

lemons salad

eggs
ice cream

juice etc for flat

mistressmiggins · 21/02/2006 19:17

I am soooo sad that I found one the other day in the trolley, took it out and put it in my car b4 going into the shop so that I could come back & post on this thread

its still in the car though....

here it is and the spelling is as appears on list:-

chicken nugets
chigargo town pizzas x 2
pineapple juice x 2
cod
curry sauce x2
beef rice x2
ribena squash
bread
milk
washing tablets
comfort
chrisps
fudge cakes
yoguts
chicken
meatballs
tomarto ketup

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2006 19:25

I sent dh to Sainsbury's in Winterstoke Rd in Bristol yesterday with explicit instruction to leave the list. It had written on the bottom "and leave the list in case a mumsnetter finds it" - I assume no-one did

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2006 19:28

Bear, if it was my list you're welcome to post it

WideWebWitch · 21/02/2006 19:29

Can't be mine come to think of it, my handwriting's crap.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 22/02/2006 14:38

Here's the nice writer's list. Green pen on page from spiral bound reporter's notebook.

mince
chicken
ham slices (I'm inferring that this is nice - it's not sliced ham, it's "ham slices")
Bacon

Bread
Gl. Free Rolls
Gl. Free Pizza Base

Tomato sauce
pizza sauce
pizza base

O.J.
Fizzy Water
elderflower

greek yog
yoghurts
cheese
Alex's milk
eggs
mozarella cheese

Jam
peanut butter
coffee

Potatoes
Carrots
apples
bananas
pineapple
cooki (struck through - presumably cooking apples)
Rhubarb

lovely writing, no spelling mistakes, relatively healthy, eats rhubarb. Guessing Alex has food issues.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 22/02/2006 17:10

not to be outdone by the bumper sticker crew - check this out. Come out and tell those torlley boys and officious assistant managers just who you are!

oh and while you're linking - have a look at this too

WideWebWitch · 22/02/2006 17:32

No, that wasn't my list Bear. lol at nice ham t shirts!

BettySpaghetti · 22/02/2006 17:36

OK, you got me. I've been outed. I am that Elvis, at least I've now had the hernia stuffed back in.

Yuk - that's put me off whatever it was I was going to snack on right about 10pm after the footie. Cheers POD

champs · 25/02/2006 03:46

PMSL@ ham tshirt!!!

found two today. saw one in trolley so swooped ds2 up and plopped him in and pounced on note, and at corner of my eye saw a woman who was coming towards me and then turned away as she saw me take note!! am i paranoid or was it a mner planning on nabbing it??

smiled with glee and dh asked me what it was, "a list" I said all happy "a list?" he asked "you made a lsit? good". "no i found it" I said grinning "found it?" he asked and shook his head, grabbed the trolley and walked in the store shaking his head, just walking past the trolley row and i see another list, I push my fingers through the trolley guard fence and the trolley grid and pull it out "what's that mum?" ds1 asks, in a tone not unlike his dad's, "a list" i say skipping, yes skipping to the store entrance...... anyway......

list one, torn paper, on back of 1st ethical tax planning limited form.

says Shopping list at the top, in the middle of paper

Beetroot
Pasta
Cheese
Green beans
IBfren kids
Gout tablets (ouch!)
wipes (baby? cleaning?)
Apples

blue biro scrawly writting

champs · 25/02/2006 03:53

list two:

white notebook paper, unmargined jotter type.
Red writting. top is all smudged - caught in rain?

teabags
bread
sweetner powder
sweetners
kit kats
toothpaste
soap powder (think it's soap first part very smudged) (cant read next item either^)
tin foil
oven chips
tomato soup (i think)
dolmio
jam
drink
ribena
fish fingers

handwritting looks a bit male like.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 25/02/2006 10:48

like the juxtaposition of sweetners and kit kats - that diet's really gonna work wonders

but the best item is "drink" - shades of Father Jack. non-specific booze, much of. bit like one of my lists. Note there's no booze on the Gouty list

BettySpaghetti · 25/02/2006 16:07

Not 1, not 2 ...but 3 lists to post!
Wish I could take the credit but I was at work and DP took DD and DS to Waitrose list-hunting (normal families go to the park or swimming, mine go list-hunting for MN)

LIST 1 -written on the back of a piece of paper about a Xmas cards quiz,

Ties
Bread? for-cooking-Party
Grapes?
Brandy snaps
Biscuits for David
Deodorant
Bread for us

(and at the bottom of the page)
Lillies
Laundry

Now, by ties do they mean neckwear? and what about "bread for cooking"? Is that a different type of bread

BettySpaghetti · 25/02/2006 16:11

LIST 2
written on a piece of reporters notebook paper, strange use of capitals

Apricots
Organic figs
Sugar (BIG BAG)
ALTA RICA COFFEE (large)
MY COFFEE
(and one other item written in totally illegible lower case, joined up writing. Loks a bit like...Mneom malibor??!!)

BettySpaghetti · 25/02/2006 16:19

Finally, LIST 3 - written on piece of paper 2"squared that looks as if its been cut from a compliments slip. The company logo includes the phrase " a fresh approach".

pnut butter
ketchup
sh.poo
m.toast
ch.spr
v.tea
coffee
glam.saus
sw.com
muesli
liq soap

Highlight of this list for me glam. saus Surely glamorous sausages beat "nice ham" handsdown!

pooka · 25/02/2006 16:53

Or it might be glamorgan sausage? Though I do like the idea of glam sausages. Maybe decorated with diamante!

JackieNo · 26/02/2006 15:00

Found 2 in the same trolley at Waitrose in Abingdon this morning. Different writing, and one had been there during a shower, so it rather smudged - I may have to guess at some of the items.

List one, written on the back of a rather nice note card 'Just to say. Just to say. etc' all along the top. Too nice to use for a shopping list, IMO.
Prune juice [in pencil - the rest in pen]
loin of pork
comice pears (lots)
Apples

  • some pink lady -some braeburn mini wheats (choc chip) ripe avocado
JackieNo · 26/02/2006 15:03

Second list - the smudged one.
Bit sheet of lined A4, written in pen. Spellings etc as per original.

Bread
milk
Shreedies
Sugar
fruit - grapes, 1 apple, 4 [too smudged to read]
Salad - cucumber, lettuce
Kitchen roll
Dolmio Packet pasta sauces
coke
crisps
Sandwitch fillas
Butter
Sanatogen pronatal [obviously a MNer in the making, then]
