i am vaguely intrigued by these as identified in teh times
"Discarded notes are rubbish to most people, but not for worldwide subscribers to Found, which reprints them. The magazine?s publisher, Davy Rothbart, gets bundles sent to his office in Michigan. Laura Kwerel, a radio producer in Washington, was ?overwhelmed? after reading one issue. ?I realise now,? she says, ?that there is more humanity in a discarded grocery list than in a thousand-page novel.? Some people need to get out more. "

Do you reckon they're onto us as I couldn't find any today? -in fact I've never seen supermarket trolley parks look as tidy as they have done of late

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/02/2006 20:27

Have FINALLY found a shopping list today, after an interesting few days in shops generally. Here goes.......

The paper is small but on the reverse is......

NORTH ENFIELD CONSERVATIVE CLUB ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMME:- February to March

Feb 4 MYRA TERRY DUO

10 JAZZ NIGHT

11 St Valentines Dance with ROY CHASE

18 WHISPER

25 CHAS STEVENS

Mar 4 EXCALIBUR

11 MAL PARIS

15 ELVIS NIGHT

18 MARK DEREK

25 DAVID WAYNE

Denotes Bingo

LOL

Anyway, the list goes as follows....(in scrawly old lady writing with original spelling mistakes etc....)

Broccoli - Cabbage Sprouts
2 x Milk (originally crossed out)
Custard & Creame
Apple Pie
Salt
Bake Pots
Brendi + LINDA (????)
Cornflakes

At the bottom upside down and scribbled out it says

Boveral
Bread
Butter

No secret messages or anything......

misdee · 17/02/2006 20:46

oh oh i have one, well mieow picked it up last week and its been in my coat pocket ever since.

its written in capital letters and is ripped from a business letter..

BREAD 1B (brown??) 3W (white?)
SALAD
TOMS

on the back is an address for flextronics international in Co Clare, Ireland.

this was found in hertfordshire lol.

i mean why write a list for such a small amoutn of items? where they worried they'd get the number of brown loaves wrong, or forget the white all together? what sort of salad are they having?

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 17/02/2006 23:01

ooh ooh it's Whisper tomorrow - I love them. We had them for my Auntie's 40th anniversary.

Do you think that Elvis Night and Jazz Night are brothers?

There's an awful lot of "talent" with two christian names here - is that what you have to do when you take a stage name? Myra Terry, Mark Derek, David Wayne. Or is the Myra Terry Duo a couple - Myra & Terry?

You sure Boveral and Brendi & Linda aren't from the other side of the paper - April's highlights: Saturday 8th: Boveral (a trio of beefy blokes who sing like angels) Friday 14th Brendi & Linda (Psychic dog evening) Sunday 23rd Starri Night (the boys' little sister) Saturday 29th Custard & Creame (proper songs sung by proper singers, not the muck that passes for music these days)

No secret messages - you found a diamond in the rough my dear.

Flextronics is the company who send out all Apple computer orders to the UK. The lister is obviously a DELIGHTFUL person who has their lives sorted, a great sex life, many friends and a really good reason for having 4 loaves of salad sarnies (75% white bread)

GeorgieVickyLou · 17/02/2006 23:03

Is this still going! OMG and i thought the Sausage roll thread was random!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 17/02/2006 23:40

LOL BITBBH!

messagedeleted · 18/02/2006 17:08

think the bread order is for cricket teas or summat similar

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/02/2006 22:55

Cricket teas? Misdee mustve been in the Southern hemisphere when she stumbled across her list, lol!

Bit cold for cricket teas in Herts atm!

misdee · 18/02/2006 22:56

Just a tad cold. maybe its for the indoor bowls team?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/02/2006 23:09

Would have teacakes and fondant fancies on list for indoor bowls

misdee · 18/02/2006 23:09

maybe they are on a diet?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 18/02/2006 23:12

With all that exercise???

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 18/02/2006 23:12

Had a dream last night that I was a Brian Potter-esque social secretary and had booked Brendi & Linda who died on their feet and I was relying on Custard & Creame to rescue the situation and they were singing over their backing track, I say singing, I mean bellowing and (I forget the song) their soaring crescendo and flashing disco lights morphed into DS's monitor with him screaming that he wanted up, all lights lit. At 5.55am, the monkey. Weird, non?

No lists in the store today. Nada. Zip.

JackieNo · 20/02/2006 16:09

I managed to pick up 2 in Tescos in Abingdon this afternoon without, hopefully, making myself look like too much of a weirdo. First one very boring:

Cooked chicken or Portions
Bag chips
Roast potatoes
Conditioner
2 pints skimmed milk
" " full fat milk
Cheshire cheese.

The other one a bit more interesting (but not much)
New Pen
Tissues 2 boxes
Whisky
Lemonade
Spuds + Veg
Sugar
Birthday Card

Then at the bottom:
Page 913 21(circled)
Page 1055 13(circled).

On the back:
Feet (can you buy these in Tesco?)
Friday
Lunch at [presumably someone's name].

I've been sleeping on a different storey than (or is it from) DS due to my illness-induced snorefests, hence need for monitor. Not a mansion, just a house of many storeys. Including Bear Hunt.

I want all listers to get out their catalogues and identify those page and item numbers - if CSI can get DNA results on epithelials back in a coupla hours, we can get this cracked overnight. Get to it. Page 1055 - big catalogue - Argos Extra?

BettySpaghetti · 21/02/2006 08:31

Think it must be Argos -I used to work in Abingdon and theres an Argos across the road from Tescos.
Will have a look in the catalogue after school run etc if no one else has done it by then.

suzywong · 21/02/2006 08:35

I found one at last!

Proscuitto
Low fat cottage cheese
jarlburg

bicarbonate of soda
tomatoes

magnifying glass
calorie counter

is there more to this thread than that or do you just repeat the list?

I must have too much time on my hands (or am just too nosey for my own good ) but I've looked up JackieNo's list entries in the Argos catalogue. They are:

cord effect fleece blanket
Cordon Bleu stainless steel 2 slice toaster

(in my defence, DD only went back to school today and DS is asleep so its my first "daytime break" since before halfterm so I'm spending it all on the laptop)

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 21/02/2006 12:23

this toaster ? it's important. Can you link to the blanket - it may have great significance.

BettySpaghetti · 21/02/2006 12:27

Your word is my command
here you go

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 21/02/2006 12:29

is it this ? which is a throw, not a blanket and that difference may well hold the key....

no, Batters, I'm still not better

found a list yesterday. Am loth to share it as I really really like the handwriting, and judging by the contents it may well be a MNer and I don't want to post the first identified one and for the writer to not live up to her handwriting - she might which would be great, but these things have a knack of smacking you in the back of the knees with a pool cue and then kicking you in the kidneys.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 21/02/2006 12:29

sorry we crossed. Thanks.
