i am vaguely intrigued by these as identified in teh times
"Discarded notes are rubbish to most people, but not for worldwide subscribers to Found, which reprints them. The magazine?s publisher, Davy Rothbart, gets bundles sent to his office in Michigan. Laura Kwerel, a radio producer in Washington, was ?overwhelmed? after reading one issue. ?I realise now,? she says, ?that there is more humanity in a discarded grocery list than in a thousand-page novel.? Some people need to get out more. "

Virtually wetting myself with excitement because not only were there reduced Gu chocolate puddings in Waitrose, I nabbed 2 lists.

List one - back of a business card for The Wesleyan hotel and restaurant. Nice joined up handwriting with looping capital Cs in blue rollerball. 's are just to show the correct layout.

Chicken'''Green Salad
''''''''''Coleslaw
Cheese''''1 veg.
''''W liquid

One Veg?? It could be l veg but given the correct use of capital letters I doubt it.

List two - slightly blunt and smudge pencil on a yellow post it note. More scrawly joined up writing, possibly written in a hurry.

Beef/Chicken
Steak
Chicken Breast
Prawns
Eggs
Dried Fruit
New Pots
Mushrooms
Lettuce
Tarragon
Milk x 2

Bread + Wel Brown "wel is actually illegible. The W has too many loops at the bottom and the "el" looks like a widely spaced d

Maybe a box with pictures of shells on it, or something else that co-ordinates with the bathroom.

Avalon · 31/01/2006 13:45

List left in Lidl shopping trolley with a big star beside some items.

Mushrooms *
Soft baps
Choclate Desserts *
Buggetts *
Mats - heavily underlined
Sausage
Chicken Roll
OIL 2-3

No idea what Buggetts are.

I was intrigued by this list as it was left by the owner of a 'General Store' (back of the list).

pmsl @ soft baps (immature and irrational I know !) bagettes perhaps ?

Avalon · 31/01/2006 13:52

lol!

alexsmum · 31/01/2006 15:35

it's a whole meal...cubes, wedges and a side order of buggets, with tom.sap for pudding!

Surfermum · 31/01/2006 17:54

I FOUND ONE!! It's on the back of the remnants of a diary or calendar because on Weds 10th in wk 32 s/he had an appt at the dentist at 8 am.

The list is ... (NB spelling mistakes not mine)

Peti Pols (deffo an L not an I)
Mix Veg 2 Pks
Tomatoe sauce
Extra Virgen Oil
Sumflower marg
Yorkshire puds
Bisto Best Beef
Tomatoe Juice

Obviously buys her the meat elsewhere.

Detta · 31/01/2006 20:46

Found one yesterday - I was so excited I couldn't wait to get home and read it (how sad am I???). It was in a classy Lidl establishment and was actually laying on a shelf amongst face cream. Quite boring generally, but it did say "Hover!" (yes, with the exclamation mark). No idea what that could be at all...

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 31/01/2006 20:49

don't keep it to yourself - you might think it dull, but we don't get out much, it's gold dust to us

share, esp if there are any ham related items on there

Detta · 31/01/2006 20:52

Well you did ask!

Peas
Pads
Toms
apples
saus
murphys
rinse aid
banans
milk - both
toothbrush
hover!

on scrap of white paper - nothing else written on it

FrannyandZooey · 31/01/2006 21:06

Ok, I have been trying to pretend this thread is beneath me but the truth is I can't ruddy find any.

Any tips for locating lists? Am beginning to think everyone in Essex is illiterate. I did follow a woman for a bit the other day as she definitely had a list, but I lost her by the meat aisle (looking for ham, no doubt).

Detta · 31/01/2006 21:27

DP can't believe that anyone would be interested in this... but it's so addictive. I've been searching trolleys for them. Maybe it's because women are naturally nosey, sorry, curious...

ellceeell · 31/01/2006 21:42

found one in Tesco this morning - scribbled in black biro on an "Express Print" piece of paper.

Hoi Sin duck wrap sandwich
Lucozade lemon
J2O
Gammon
Bread
Tomorrow's dinner
Juices Grapefruit
Cranberry
Small Milk

  • milk scribbled in untidier writing than the rest of the list. Who's going to analyse this, then?
AggiePanther · 31/01/2006 22:41

Detta, as yours was from lidl, perhaps 'hover!' actually means 'hoover' and is referring to one of the carpet cleaner thingies on special offer this week.
Ok I know they're not actually hoovers and yes I also know I'm really sad for going to the lidl website to check if they had hoovers 'on special' this week but I think I may be on to something [lost the plot emoticon]

meggmoo · 31/01/2006 22:51

I have been pretty busy the past week shopping around armed with big lists and at the end I have written Mumsnet Is Aces! Been to Hampshire/Dorset and Kent

Just a matter of time before I get outed no?

bettythebuilder · 31/01/2006 23:05

AggiePanther - a big gold star for dedication to the cause.

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 31/01/2006 23:18

See Detta - good list, but Murphys?!? Why does anyone drink that stuff? It's supposed to be bitter. Drink Guinness or leave it alone.

It's not just women who are curious, Bears are too.

ellceeell - does gammon qualify as nice ham? and another place that sells full meals: "tomorrow's dinner" - I need to find this mystical meal, it would save a lot of thought

AggiePanther - you ever watch CSI? boy you're thorough

vicimelly · 01/02/2006 00:49

Red wine
20 menthol cigs
houmous
nice stuff 4 tea
ky warming jelly
baby wipes
