I'd say more mad than brave! Grin. Although twins run in family, I didn't expect is at the first set were MoMo so they were just luck of the draw Grin I'm half Russian, and since moving country and away from my dad (who speaks it almost 24/7) the DC and I have rarely been speaking Russian and I miss it plus I want to make sure the DC don't lose what they know.

MultipleMama · 12/12/2014 18:12

I'm making a traditional 12 course meal (too many to list) for Xmas eve for my side of the family and a starter, main and dessert for Xmas day for both sides of the family. Not really ideal but the distraction would be welcome and I miss having family around me :)

I miss a good Yorkshire Pud. No-one made them quite like mum. My mouth is watering now! Grin

Minisoksmakehardwork · 13/12/2014 01:27

Lovely meal out with friends tonight. Was a great break from household drudgery (although I did get a lot of tidying done today). Mum popped in to watch kids inbetween me going out and dh coming in.

Meal was yummy (gnocchi) and pudding was divine - massive profiteroles with chocolate mouse type stuff on top. Only 3 but a very good pud.

Chopstheduck · 13/12/2014 07:15

Morning girls x

Sounds like fun, soks! I love gnocchi properly made.

We're doing Turkey for Xmas day, sounds a bit boring but last year was the first time I had ever done it and we all really enjoyed it! We had goose for years, have also had a rib of beef and haunch of venison other years. Even a full on vegetarian Indian feast one year when we had dh family over.

I do like the sound of a gratin though, might pinch that one, hm!

Minisoksmakehardwork · 13/12/2014 09:59

It was a hoot. Haven't laughed so much since getting tipsy last week in ages.

We do Turkey for xmas dinner. Roast pots, carrots and 'snips, peas, sprouts and chestnuts (total yum). We discovered rolled Turkey breast from a butcher and it's so easy. Bung it in a roastabag and it comes out meltingly tender. Plus it's easy to slice.

I want a pheasant. Haven't had one in years and it's a meat I really enjoy.

HarrogateMum · 13/12/2014 13:57

I have four dead pheasants hanging in my garage if you want them!! A friend brought them round after going shooting last week claiming DH had said he wanted them. DH denies all knowledge....

MultipleMama · 13/12/2014 18:23

Glad you had a brilliant time, Soks :)

Chopstheduck · 13/12/2014 18:50

I can remember my dad doing that to my mum, HM! I really really wanted him to do them too, but my mum had a fit and I think they ended up in the bin. I actually have pheasant breasts in my freezer, which I need to empty before we move - any recipe ideas, ladies?

Minisoksmakehardwork · 13/12/2014 20:48

Mmmmm. Yum. To be fair, my mum used to find them hanging in our conservatory whenever my great uncle had visited (he used to shoot). Dad would have to pluck and gut them but mum would cook them. I always used to end up with a piece of shot in my portion. Always!

Delia does a yummy sounding pot roast pheasant with port and chestnuts recipe.

Evening girls.............waiting up for dd to come home! Felt a bit jaded this morning after book club last night, really nice to have a change of four walls and somebody else cook for me! Did I hear pheasants? I have a brace in my freezer, love them and often cook them for New Year with prunes..........fab! Freezing outside, thick frost, going to be a cold one for the boys in the morning. Thomas was chuffed this morning, came home, charged upstairs into my room waving an envelope addressed to the Paper Boy. Opened it, a lovely Christmas card with a fiver in, and it said "there should be an award for the best paper boy, you are excellent". Wasn`t that nice, these kids turn out in all weather, up early and get less than £3 a day. Oh wheres that girl..............need to sleep! x

Chopstheduck · 14/12/2014 07:37

Trips, I used to do paperounds morning and evening, kept it going for years - mainly for the Xmas tips! i used to get about £60 at Xmas - a lot for a teen back then! Doesn't dpund as if it is as common now thigh to tip :(

Chopstheduck · 14/12/2014 07:38

And I used to get £5.50 for the evening round and about £7-8 for the morning round! Grin

HarrogateMum · 14/12/2014 13:42

Well they are going in the bin as far as I'm concerned!! The pheasants that is....

Mm how lovely that you are going to bring up the kids bilingually. Are you in the uk or elsewhere? Did I notice you said you were from up north?? Are you round us somewhere ??

MultipleMama · 14/12/2014 13:59

I'm in Germany. Frankfurt. I was born in South Yorkshire a little ol' place called Barnsley and then moved to Kingston before moving here for DH's job and back to his home country. We hope to bring them up bilingually but it's hard adding that 3rd language so we may get them lessons to help Smile.

Sorry I havent been so active or involved in replying. Just hectic. Will do soon :) xx

HarrogateMum · 14/12/2014 15:44

Wow international jet setters!! Frankfurt hey...my other language at uni was German so we have lots in common! Have you found it hard moving to another country or did you already speak German?? Must be tough at times I'm sure. Barnsley....I went on a night out there once it was a real experience!! I was born not far away in Chesterfield and lived there until I was 11 before I moved up to Harrogate.

Ps anyone want some of my left over maple syrup cheesecake that i made for after lunch ?? (Bloated emoticon).....

MultipleMama · 14/12/2014 17:43

I learned German at school (the basic stuff), my best friend (now my BIL!) was German so I took more classes for him and he learnt me some, then I started dating DH and it just took off from there. Helps that I pick them up easy and learning languages is a hobby Blush

Yeah, Barnsley is an equired taste. I still have family there and I weirdly still have my accent! Don't miss it though!

That cheesecake sounds delicious. I'll sneak a piece! :)

triplets · 14/12/2014 21:13

Hi ladies..........I love languages, can get by in French and Spanish, think it makes visiting a country more fun! MM does your df speak Russian or English to your new db, I assume your little db is English? Has he come over? I cant remember if you have met him yet. I am sitting up in bed with a twinging tooth, please please please.......no teethy problems before Christmas.........have to have my nuts! :o So how is everyone doing in the big run up? Just taken me two days to decorate the house, does look very pretty even if I say so myself. Was hoping the kids would help but they didnt...........idle lot! Must get to sleep earlier, been having very late nights, sleeping badly atm. Need to be out by 7.15am in the morning, poor dh has to have a brain scan at 8.15am!! He must be feeling nervous but he does his best not to show it, actually feel very sorry for him atm. Need to go brush my teeth but don`t want to get out of bed........could someone go get my tooth brush please?

Chopstheduck · 14/12/2014 21:24

Dh's first language is Gujarati - he tried speaking it to our twins as toddlers and they just laughed at him!

HarrogateMum · 14/12/2014 21:25

Oh trips your poor dh I hope all goes well. Have you booked anywhere for Harrogate yet??

Re the big run up I am almost there....presents bought and half wrapped. Cards not yet written. Done an online shop for 22nd and ordered meat. Still silly bits to do ! Cheese and the like!!

MultipleMama · 14/12/2014 22:00

DF speaks both, before he started the adoption process, he rarely spoke English (it's not his favourite language - he calls it harsh, which is weird coming from a Russian! Grin) but he's had to adjust. DF is giving him Russian lessons 3 times a week, and reading to him at night. DB2 hardly spoke and literally knew only a few words (dada, mummy, lion, food, water) so dad says teaching him both is easier than expected.

Dad and both DBs flew over yesterday, I really needed my dad (Fee has mild heart failure :( ) because I was freaking out. So they came a week earlier then planned. I haven't met DB2 yet though (only skype), but we plan to go home tomorrow to have dinner with everyone.

As for the run up; we have our tree, still not decorated - my bad!, in fact the whole house isn't decorated we had planned to do it Fri/Sat but we had to be with Fee so we're determined to do it tomorrow, we're trying to go all eco for Christmas this year to save money. Got some pretty good ideas and some cool crafts to do. Should be fun. I've ordered all the food I need online and will be delivered on 21st, I have my recipes and menus printed, still gotta set up the spare bedroom, and figure out where to sit people, all presents are wrapped up and stored in the basement, I need one more gift for DH and K as there trip to the book fair back in Oct got cancelled.

I haven't been sleeping either, I seem to be going to bed later and later but still getting up early! I hope DHs scan goes okay and that he gets good news! I have an ophthalmologist appt tomorrow for some photos taking and then I am finally discharged!

bubby64 · 14/12/2014 22:22

Hi girlie's - finally got DH and boys presents sorted, I'm going to get gifts for nieces and nephews tomorrow, and still have to buy for mum and father in law, but honestly do not have much money to get anything with - I also still have to get work secret Santa just my luck, I drew out the boss Confused
DH gets paid Friday, thank God, I don't get paid until the 24th, which is absolutely useless for Christmas. As for food, I will have to get what I can at the weekend with DH's pay.

bubby64 · 14/12/2014 22:27

Mind you, Christmas tree and dec's are up, still have to put outside lights up, I was going to do that today with DH, but FinL turned up, so I had to cook for him then do some shopping for basic food items etc, mind you, eating out of the freezer has shown what is sitting at the bottom of our big chest one and our fridge type one had things in I had totolly forgotten aboutGrin

Chopstheduck · 15/12/2014 07:39

Good luck to your dh today, trips xx

Bubby, dh goes through our fridge with a pen and paper making a list every so often Grin We're replacing our big american fridge freezer when we move, so having to eat up everything in it. They won't take the old one away unless it is totally dry.

I've been making big pots of takeaway style curry sauce base. Then I make it into different curries with all the random bits and pieces of meat and veg we have by flavouring with different spices. It's really easy, though involves boiling onions for an hour - so usually stinks the house out!

Minisoksmakehardwork · 15/12/2014 21:26

Hope all went well with your dh trips.

triplets · 15/12/2014 21:40

Hi girls........they nearly didnt do it as he has a stent in one artery, they debated for 20 mins then went ahead.........literally! No idea when he will get the result, this as arranged by the neurologist and he wont see her now until May. Hopefully no news is good news.
