Hi,

My baby boy is due soon and he will be circumcised. (Please no circumcision debate on this thread). Those of you who have had you baby boys circumcised... what is your opinion on the best age to have it done? Also what was your experience of their recovery?

Thank you Smile

usefultoken · 10/04/2017 06:41

I watched both my sons circumcisions. It was no worse than getting their vaccinations done.

CMamaof4 · 10/04/2017 06:54

Muhujaba, I find it disgusting that you would want to cut away bits of your child's private parts, They aren't YOUR private parts to decide over and I think its child abuse as with your down playing of it all giving a worse example to deflect over what you have done to your own child they have a party for it so that makes it OK??
I don't care if thats what you do where u are from it is child abuse and it should be made illegal as it is when performed on girls I can't see how boys are any different.

samG76 · 10/04/2017 08:36

sunhat - I'll make a rare attempt to answer the question - our DS's done at 10 days. Healed completely within a week. I think it is best done in the morning, though, so prevent a disturbed night.

alltouchedout · 10/04/2017 08:39

If it's for medical reasons, the right time is when doctors say it's necessary. If for other reasons, the right time is when the person to be circumcised is an adult capable of making an informed choice.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/04/2017 08:45

Do people really still do this for non medical reasons? Awful. Don't do it.

samG76 · 10/04/2017 08:49

Facelike - they do. I'm surprised your no doubt wide and multicultural circle of friends and acquaintances hasn't made you aware of this.

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 10/04/2017 09:22

Throw a dig in there Sam, I don't really care. My son's penis is intact though, and I do care about that.

For the record, I don't know anyone who has circumcised their child. Though I don't live in a country where this is done routinely.

ASDismynormality · 10/04/2017 09:33

My son had it done age 7 for medical reasons. I can not understand why anyone would do this unless it's absolutely necessary- it's barbaric. I was worried my sons wound was infected so took him to the gp- he said it looks as it should do post op, like a dogs chewed it!

Hoppinggreen · 10/04/2017 09:46

Well sam it is entirely possible many Of us on here have friends who have been circumcised but it's not something that would generally come up in conversation - probably because it's not generally considered acceptable here.

samG76 · 10/04/2017 09:59

Facelike - I was just surprised that you didn't know that Muslims, Jews, lots of African Christians and other still practise it, as I would have thought it's general knowledge.

And hoppinggreen - are you saying that your friends have done it, but not told you, because they're so embarrassed. Maybe it's just they haven't told you because of your attitude....

muhajaba · 10/04/2017 10:09

CMamaof4 For the third time now, I do not like the way it's done where I live, I was simply stating my observations. I do not have a son and probably never will but if I did then he would be circumcised as a baby by a doctor.

Please tell me why it is legal if it is child abuse?
Please tell me why millions of baby boys who have undergone this allegedly barbaric mutilation that supposedly traumatises them- then grow up into men who put their own sons through the same thing?

CMamaof4 · 10/04/2017 10:21

I don't know muhabaja!? But it should be!!

sticklebrix · 10/04/2017 10:29

Please tell me why it is legal if it is child abuse?

Apparently so many people believe that the non-medical and permanent alteration of a child's healthy genitals is A-OK that it remains legal. Utterly inconsistent with every other definition of child abuse in my opinion.

Seriously, why the urgency? Just let adult men decide what to do with their own genitals. Have celebration parties at age 18.

muhajaba · 10/04/2017 10:31

Personally I find the sanctimonious bigotry and comparisons to FGM way more disgusting than circumcision.

boolifooli · 10/04/2017 10:34

It's barbaric. You should be prosecuted for child abuse. It's mutilation. Shame on you.

WellErrr · 10/04/2017 10:36

Yes but you've already proved that your ethics are somewhat skewed on this.

Amputating the healthy body parts of non-consenting children is abuse.

muhajaba · 10/04/2017 10:40

boolifooli Yes the court case would be fascinating- the attempted prosecution of a woman who doesn't have a son, has never performed a circumcision and merely agrees with something that is legal. Brilliant Grin

fakenamefornow · 10/04/2017 10:49

Hasn't it been made illegal in Germany? I think it might have been following the death of a baby due to circumcision.

fakenamefornow · 10/04/2017 10:52

Just had a very quick Google. Loads of links about babies dying due to circumcision.

www.circinfo.org/USA_deaths.html

This link looks like it's from a pressure group so might not be the most unbiased but will give some indication.

fakenamefornow · 10/04/2017 10:56

Don't know if this is the latest situation in Germany.

bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php?threads/circumcision-german-court-says-childs-right-outweighs-parents-rights.221746/

fakenamefornow · 10/04/2017 11:03

I wish the courts would make it illegal, it very obviously fits the definition of child abuse. I have some friends who are JWs they told me that with regard to blood transfusion and children, JW children routinely receive blood against parents wishes. They seemed very happy with this situation as the law gave them a sort of 'get out of jail' card. If the law stepped in with regard to circumcision maybe many Muslim/Jewish parents who have the same view.

samG76 · 10/04/2017 12:31

fakenames - there wasn't a death in Germany, and the court decision has been overturned by Parliament. The figures on your link are highly dubious. the more accepted figure is "nil".

bluetigergreen · 10/04/2017 12:39

My DS was circumcised at around 4 months and it was horrible. It is the biggest regret I have, even though he seems fine now. MIL had to hold me down to take him to have the operation.

If possible don't do it at all, since he can always choose to have it done once he's an adult.

My DS was a smiley happy baby but his screams after waking up from the anaesthetic are something I will never ever forget. He was out of sorts for two days afterwards and he still tends to get a bit red at the tip of his penis if not kept very clean three years later.

Make sure pain relief is discussed in advance so can be administered before or immediately after operation.

GahBuggerit · 10/04/2017 12:42

Recovery time for my brother who needed it for medical reasons was (is) 32 years and counting

Might need to stock up on Calpol OP.

BoneyBackJefferson · 10/04/2017 12:57

muhajaba

It's not absolute rubbish, they have a party for it

That makes it fine then. (FFS)
