Hi,

My baby boy is due soon and he will be circumcised. (Please no circumcision debate on this thread). Those of you who have had you baby boys circumcised... what is your opinion on the best age to have it done? Also what was your experience of their recovery?

Thank you Smile

muhajaba

You are are calling millions of people uncivilised just for having different views to you regarding a little piece of skin

There are lots of "little bits of skin" that I (and most other people) wouldn't want removing.

annandale · 09/04/2017 21:58

wellerr you sound like that poster who said how could anyone eat meat knowing about animal cruelty - it is possible to have different views on this and not be cast into outer darkness.

It's not the area of skin that matters muhajaba, it's the inability to consent to a non-essential procedure. If it were just a little bit of skin, why do it? It is a tribal ritual and a sign of submission (the doctor who circumcised my ds said 'welcome to the club' afterwards) and I do think it will die out eventually [hopes against hope]

If it's only "a little piece of skin" then it's not important. So you can leave it be.

Hoppinggreen · 09/04/2017 22:05

I genuinely do not understand how it's legal to remove that piece of skin from your son and not others.
Unless medically advised it should result in prosecution

sticklebrix · 09/04/2017 22:09

Age 18. With the penis-owner's consent.

Snuppeline · 09/04/2017 22:13

Having had sex with men circumcised and uncircumcised, I have to say the circumcised's lack of skin means they cannot be jerked off properly and so they miss out on a large part of sexuality. Yes the can have orgasms and some probably have more skin allowing more foreskin movement back and forth but those I have experience with had hardly any meaning there was not movement up and own when enjoying oral or a hand. From my perspective, knowing how much this is enjoyed by males with foreskin, I thought the circumcised men deprived. Their lack of skin, from a fellatio perspective for me personally was more pleasant but that is definitively not the point - the point is depriving that young boy of a repertoire of his sexual experiences later in life. If you insist on doing it do it as early as possible to prevent any residual memory of pain related to his genitals forming.

Snuppeline · 09/04/2017 22:14

Apologies for the graphic message. Wine has been imbibed. But thought the angle pertinent as it were... Blush

MollyHuaCha · 09/04/2017 22:17

The best age is around 21 years when it's the decision of a grown adult. If I were the child, I'd be so ANGRY if someone had done this to me as a baby.

This response will probably be deleted... sigh...Hmm

Slippersandacuppa · 09/04/2017 22:19

Not sure that the 'millions of boys have it done' argument is a valid one tbh. Millions of children/adults/animals etc have had all sorts done to them in the name of culture or tradition or religion. Thankfully, people have questioned and fought for their rights. It's no excuse.

As for circumcision, my mother was a midwife in a country where they were routinely carried out in hospital shortly after delivery so she was required to assist. She absolutely hated it and said that anyone who makes that choice on behalf of their son should be made to sit and watch.

user1486669405 · 09/04/2017 22:22

Totally agree with snuppeline. Totally chimes with my experience of sex with circumcised vs uncircumcised men. It just isn't the same for those men missing their foreskin.

It might not be the same/as horrific as fgm but I don't think anyone should have the right to meddle with their child's genitals in this way.

Eminybob · 09/04/2017 22:31

I wonder if any adult males resent their parents for not circumcising them as a child...

ThoraGruntwhistle · 09/04/2017 22:34

There doesn't seem to be any real reason to cut any skin off your baby. Particularly a piece of skin which is in such a delicate area and should be left alone unless there's a problem with it. Do him a favour and leave him the way he was born. Ask him when he's grown up if he wants to cut it off. Any parent would surely want their baby to be as pain free as possible, so why put them through unnecessary discomfort?

Fairylea · 09/04/2017 22:36

The idea of circumcision when not absolutely medically necessary makes my skin crawl. To do it just for religious or cultural reasons is selfish and child abuse. I'm hiding the thread now because the whole thing makes me feel sick. And very angry.

PuntCuffin · 09/04/2017 22:39

Snuppeline that is pretty much what one of my brothers has said. He feels it has affected his enjoyment. Which given my parents attitude to sex only being for function not fun was probably their intention.

123rd · 09/04/2017 22:45

My ds has had it done. After numerous treatments for infection etc. We did watchful waiting for a long time. Nature wasn't working how it should. Even had to encourage him to play with it Confused poor little boy was 8 yrs old. It hurt afterwards A LOT. And even though he knows it was done for medical reasons he isn't happy about it. I feel bloody awful

WatchingFromTheWings · 09/04/2017 22:56

I agree with this. Appalling thing to do.

sweetkitty · 09/04/2017 23:06

Horrible and should be banned

fakenamefornow · 09/04/2017 23:10

I predict a legal case about this sometime, with the circumcised child (now adult) suing practitioner/parents.

PhilODox · 09/04/2017 23:10

Muhajaba- it was once the norm for British men of certain classes to be circumcised, but thankfully this has mainly died out now.

Why is MGM not illegal the way FGM is?

CMamaof4 · 09/04/2017 23:18

My son had to be circumsised for medical reasons as a baby and it was awful, the screaming when he urinated in his nappy after the protective bandaging was taken off was horrific it also got infected and he had to have another op at a later date as they didn't remove enough skin, I don't know why as a mother you would ever want to put your child through pain like that intentionally and I think it should be made illegal to do it without medical reasons on young children, It's cruel! Poor child!

CMamaof4 · 09/04/2017 23:31

Muhajaba, You talk about cutting off a childs foreskin with scissors so casually saying "they don't take it badly" absolute rubbish like a 6 year old would be OK with having that done, that's fucking disgusting! And no its not acceptable its CHILD ABUSE! You are disgusting!

Willow2017 · 09/04/2017 23:44

An ex of mine had it done, ruined his sex life! He couldnt feel a thing through condoms, needed lube as no foreskin to protect the glans etc etc.

Why is it considered barbaric to do FGM but not circumcision? After all its MGM under another name. The foreskin is there for a reason, why does anyone have the right to remove it without the owners permission?

muhajaba · 10/04/2017 00:16

CMamaof4 In the country I currently live in this is the norm, as I said in my first post I do not like the way it's done here, although I have no problem with circumcision generally. It's not absolute rubbish, they have a party for it and the circumcision is performed during the party, the boys cry for a little bit and then they are fine, I was surprised by it. How am I disgusting for stating what I have seen?

lloydlf33 · 10/04/2017 01:00

The foreskin isn't just a piece of skin it's equivalent to the clitoral hood in females. Its packed full of nerve endings and protects the talks from drying out and thickening which reduces adult sensitivity. It has 16 separate functions which cannot be replaced or replicated.

Those saying that baby barely cried or was silent are missing the point spectacularly. Babies who experience that level of pain and trauma go into shock. They are quiet and still because they are concentrating on maintaining vital function. Not because having a metal implement forcibly inserted into their foreskin which is then ripped away from their glans isn't massively traumatizing and painful! Babies foreskins are fiaed to the head of the penis so a circumcision isn't a simple cut the foreskin is torn forcibly away! It's barbaric that babies are having to go through this in this day and age.

Anyone thinking of circumcising should visit the Facebook page Your Whole Baby first and educate themselves on the procedure, talk to parents who have circumcised for many different reasons and regret it bitterly, talk to men who have been circumcised and how it affects them.

They should also watch the video An Elephant in the Hospital which shows clips of an actual circumcision after all.of you're willing to put your child through the process voluntarily then you should at least be willing to watch one.

lloydlf33 · 10/04/2017 01:01

*Glans not talks
