Hi,

My baby boy is due soon and he will be circumcised. (Please no circumcision debate on this thread). Those of you who have had you baby boys circumcised... what is your opinion on the best age to have it done? Also what was your experience of their recovery?

Thank you Smile

So are boys routinely circumcised in Canada?

lizzieoak · 14/04/2017 19:14

I looked it up. Across the country the rates have declined from 80+% when I was a kid to around a third of boys born now.

I didn't realize circumcision also reduces the cases of uti's in boys and penile cancer in men.

A quick Google tells me that the Canadian Paediatric Society doesn't recommend circumcision for all newborn baby boys. Maybe it has changed recently?

MrsCobain · 14/04/2017 19:21

I live in North America and am pleased to see parents refusing circumcision. I think it's 50/50 where I am now.

Revolting child abuse.

I'm hiding the thread now because it makes me so fucking angry people mutilate their children this way.

lizzieoak · 14/04/2017 19:43

The CPA says there are pros and cons. If this was "horrific child abuse" would it be allowed? Would circumcised men be rising up against it? Hmm, neither of those had happened.

Mrs C, do you not know any Jews or Muslims or other circumcised men? Do you think they're all emotionally distraught about it. Yeesh.

annandale · 14/04/2017 21:19

lizzieoak, there are men who speak against it. You may not consider them a large or significant group but they do exist.

Review confirming that circumcised boys are less likely to have UTIs but also concluding that the benefit is so small (111 procedures to prevent 1 UTI) that only boys who have recurrent UTIs should be offered circumcision in the first place. here Other papers suggest that 900 procedures would need to take place to prevent 1 case of penile cancer.

Try these sites if you believe that all circumcised men are happy.
Just FYI, I don't endorse the sites or their content.
These rae just a few off thee first page of google.

You Colman also find men who chose to get circumcised as adults, so I don't think a small group of men who wish it hadn't been done is significant compared to the majority who are just fine with it. Seriously, men do not agonise over this. Friends and lovers have not expressed regret and lovers certainly are experiencing a lot of very happy sensations. The worry it causes Europeans causes some head-scratching amongst people I know here.

lizzieoak · 14/04/2017 23:14

I really wish we could edit after the fact! Should say "you could also" not Colman. Confused

The evidence that circumcision decreases the risk of HIV is shaky at best. It was conducted in Africa in a relatively small sample group and the methodology was dubious. X amount of men were circumcised and a similar amount left intact. All were told to continue their sex life as usual and monitored/tested after a number of months. However what wasn't taken into account was the healing time for the circumcision, which is about 6 weeks, so the got up that was circumcised weren't actively having sex for that time and yet it was counted as their test period. So the intact group had almost double the time being sexually active as the circumcised group and then had a higher incident of HIV infections. Likely to son with more sexual encounters and also to do with the amount of time it takes for the virus to actually show up in test rather than any benefit from the circumcision

lloydlf33 · 15/04/2017 05:48

Lizzieoak Are you kidding? Circumcision massively reduces sexual pleasure and feeling for men! It's the sexual centre for pleasure and equivalent to removing the clitoral good in a female.

So much misinformation in this thread!!

boolifooli · 15/04/2017 08:41

Wether intact men are happier is neither here nor there. Rates of STDs are neither here nor there. Circumcision (for non immediate medical need) is wrong because you're irrevocably altering a child's body without their consent. It's disgusting, abhorrent, barbaric and despicable.

BertrandRussell · 15/04/2017 08:48

Performing non medically required body changing surgery on a person unable to consent is simply wrong. And people do actually know that. Hence the increasingly frantic attempts to come up with medical justification.

BoneyBackJefferson · 15/04/2017 10:43

You post as if men talk to each other all the time about being circumcised.

I doubt that the number of men unsatisfied with their circumcision will ever be known for three reasons

1/ they don't talk about it.
2/ Men are trained from a very early age to just get on with it, ignore the pain and discomfort and just plough through.
and 3/ How would they know any different?

You Could also find men who chose to get circumcised as adults

if this is so prevalent then why not let the men choose? (déjà vu)

Andrewofgg · 23/04/2017 21:14

Circumcision massively reduces sexual pleasure and feeling for men!

The only person who could know that is a man circumcised in adult life at a time when he already had some sexual experience; show me research done among such men and I might believe you.

Might because it would be so difficult even for him to compare.

I was done at five days - not eight as is usual for Jewish boys - because I got an infection and it would not wait. Whether it has affected my enjoyment of the sexual act I obviously don't know. Neither does anybody else. And forgive me lloydlf33 but it is as impossible for you to know what male sexual pleasure is like as it is for me to know what female sexual pleasure is like.

HildaOg · 05/05/2017 19:01

If baby boys could talk, they'd beg you not to hack their foreskin off. It's a part of their penis. Once they're 18, then they should have the right to choose whether to be mutilated.

momoh · 23/05/2017 13:04

Had my sons done at 10 days old. The younger, the better as they heal a lot quicker. Mine was fine after the first day.
