Hi everyone...

I just wanted to write and gloat with everyone on just how exceptionally beautiful multicultural / mixed children are!!!!

dd is 6 months... she is 1/4 vietnamese, 1/4 Amercian, 1/4 socttish and the rest is english, irish, spanish and morrocan.

Mummy may be biased, but she thinks dd is the most beautiful thing... asian shaped eyes... but big like mine... they are slate grey/blue with flecks of brown in the middle and shes got light brown hair...

for more gloating satisfaction pls see. www.mymane.net (see album Felicity Grace Robinson)

thought would be nice to see lots of other pics and stories of other families... to sort of celebrate our moggy family (did think of calling her Mog... but then, I do want dd to have SOME friends at school!!!

OP posts:

I don't think that you should hold back.

Say what you're thinking lol

likklemum · 13/11/2005 01:19

Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous. From 1 biased mum to another!

JennyLee · 12/01/2006 19:00

Cute baby in the pictures yes, multicultural babies have 'hybrid vigour' they just better in every way and cuter and more beautiful

HeyBaby · 12/01/2006 19:28

Pix are v cute indeed. I recognise that guy Ray (in the Sydney photos) - met him recently at a friend's Xmas drinks. Weird coincidence....

I agree that there are a lot of beautiful Eurasian and other multicultural babies but generally speaking I think that there are varying degrees of beauty in every race. You can't predict the gene pool or the mix of genes eg. Elle MacPherson and her sister Mimi - one is a supermodel and the other very attractive but no supermodel, Christy Brinkley and Billy Joel's daughter (Alexa Ray) took after her Dad rather than her supermodel mum etc etc. It's a bit of a lottery really.

Before we had kids people would say to me "Oh don't worry (not that I did worry!), your kids will be REALLY good-looking!" basically just because they would be Eurasian and I always felt like there was this "pressure" due to a false preconception/expectation. Of course we have now had DS and he IS adorable (to us anyway) ... But I don't think you can make any generalisation other than to say that all mums think that their babies are beautiful!

Redtartanlass · 12/01/2006 19:49

Yup, you're right - she's gorgeous.

I have 2 mixed race babies. Ds2 is olive skinned with large brown Asian shaped eyes. Whereas dd has large blue Asian shaped eyes, very pale skin and a hit of ginger in her hair

Redtartanlass · 12/01/2006 19:50

hint of ginger.......FGS

Tiasmummy · 12/01/2006 22:51

I dont think its fair to say any child is "better" then any other. All children are beautiful.

Meanoldmummy · 12/01/2006 23:22

"multicultural babies have 'hybrid vigour' they just better in every way and cuter and more beautiful"

Claptrap. Utter, offensive, bigoted, hurtful, destructive claptrap. All of our children are beautiful. Both of my sons have blue eyes and blonde hair and are decidedly caucasian... I can just imagine the response if I came on here boasting about how they were much more beautiful and cuter and better than brown children with black hair. How ignorant some people can be.

flutterbee · 12/01/2006 23:28

I have to say that a lot of people I know state that mixed race/multiculturasl babies do make the prettiest babies, but I think that all babies are just gorgeous. I think it has something to do with how innocent they all are.

Meanoldmummy · 12/01/2006 23:30

I can't believe anyone really thinks that one "type" of baby is better or prettier than another. It's not just disgusting, it's positively unhinged. With attitudes like that no wonder we have problems with hostility between cultures.

HeyBaby · 13/01/2006 00:00

Hate to sound cynical Meanoldmummy, but I think it's just human nature. Not saying I agree with it, but did you ever see that Seinfeld episode where Jerry goes out with an amazing looking gal and finds that he starts getting better treatment everywhere he goes etc? V funny screenwriting and more than a hint of truth in it I'm afraid .... Product of the increasingly superficial environment we live in. I mean, just look at the current TV shows: "What Not to Wear", "Extreme Makeover", "The Biggest Loser", "Next Top Model" etc etc etc.

Why do you think that models and moviestars are celebrities and not neuro-surgeons or Nobel Prize winners?

Meanoldmummy · 13/01/2006 00:03

Not disagreeing with any of that, and I quite agree that the superficiality of it all is very distasteful and worrying... however, peddling damaging and divisive racial stereotypes on mumsnet is offensive and wrong. I'm not going to tolerate someone saying that their child is automatically "better" than mine (or anyone else's) by virtue of his/her ethnicity. I'm horrified.

Mytwopenceworth · 13/01/2006 00:11

at this, sorry, but words fail me!

my boys are mixed race. To me they are the most beautiful kids in the world - but not because of their ethnicity!!!!!!

My sisters daughter is an ivory skinned, blonde, green eyed beauty.

White, black, mixed, sky blue pink with polka dots, we've all got beautiful babies.

HeyBaby · 13/01/2006 00:11

Meanoldmummy - I know what you're saying. I'm just hoping that I can bring up my DS with a good enough self-esteem to value who is he as a person rather than what he looks like, no matter how the rest of the world may judge him! Going to try my best in any case ....

I think an apology would be in order for the remark about mixed race babies being "better" than other. I really am very upset about it.

joash · 13/01/2006 00:25

All babies are beautiful...to their parents. Mine were all gorgeous and they come from two of the ugliest buggers around (me and DH) .

Mytwopenceworth · 13/01/2006 00:29

agree mom, my sister would be devestated if people said to her that my sons were 'better', more cute etc than her (also beautiful btw!) daughter because they are mixed race.

It's bigotry.

Imagine posting "aren't white kids so much more attractive than other ethnic groups" This thread would hit 500 posts in 10 minutes!!!

see how infuriated i am? i said attend instead of offend!

Meanoldmummy · 13/01/2006 00:39

I am spitting bricks about this. It's a while since I've come across bigotry as blatant and ugly as this. I've certainly seen plenty of cultural and racial bigotry .... but not many people actually aim their horrible prejudices directly at babies. Appalling.

JennyLee · 13/01/2006 00:42

take a chill pill man we are just being positive about ourselves, someone has to, our kids get lots of crap off people for being coloured or different, we are just celebrating the difference. Everyone thinks their kids are the most beautiful its a universal thing get it? we are being positve and happy about ourselves and you are trying to turn it into something ugly. well don't.

JennyLee · 13/01/2006 00:44

We were not saying that white kids are not as beautiful, and if you look at the pictures of our kids a lot of them are white so its purely arbitrary , come on get a grip.

Meanoldmummy · 13/01/2006 00:47

"multicultural babies have 'hybrid vigour' they just better in every way and cuter and more beautiful"

Those were your words. They offended several people because they are unacceptably rude and bigoted. Please apologise.
