How long after spending inheritance can I claim benefits again?

Hello, after buying my new house I’m left with around £60k to spend on what is needed work wise… I had to come off benefits when I inherited. But after my money has been spent I will need to claim again.. how long do I need to wait to be able to claim? Thank you

Depends what you spend it on and if they class it as deprivation of capital or not. Is what you’re planning on spending it on essential?

I’m moving to a completely new area to be nearer my mother after my father dying. So unfortunately that means leaving my job behind. Works will be just to modernise it.

But modernize it in which the bathroom isn’t currently useable so you need a new one, or you don’t like that the bathroom is an older style/out of fashion color and so want to replace it? If it’s the former it’ll be fine, latter probably not.

I think it's fine to buy a house and later claim benefits, which will no longer have a housing element. Citizens Advice could tell you the detail.

I’m already looking. I have 3 children to get into a school first there’s only 1 space it’s a remote area too so I’m hoping once they are all in the local school I can get a job within the school or set up something in the interim. Just stressing.

If you have spent 60k when you need money to live, the benefit systen will not pay for around 4 years, as you would have had 15k per Yr to live on.

The electrics need to be updated. The kitchen is the original kitchen around 30 years old.

I moved 300 miles, with two kids, one aged 4, one with severe disabilities, end Aug, they started school early Sept, I'd already got a new job and childcare lined up before we moved which i started 3 days after school term started.
Why are you leaving it to the last minute to get a job sorted??

Depends if dwp deem the 60k spent was acceptable or not, if not they will refuse. Updating a kitchen probably wouldn't be seen as necessary.

Let me guess - you don’t drive, in addition to the 3 kids, no job, and living remotely.

Can you drive? It doesn’t sound ideal to be moving there with no school places lined up & no job.
