Is there a new thread yet? I can't find one?

Can anyone remember, with DA, once you've done the second test (qualifications one) not just the initial one, how long does it take to hear back on whether you passed or not?

Spent two hours peeling spuds yesterday during a lull in the day job and earned £2.96. I'd rather just sit and scroll flipping tiktok!

Sookie53 · 05/03/2024 13:08

@MrsWombat
@YonderTweek I've been on DA for almost a year. Started off with the lower paying projects which were pretty unreliable in terms of availability, but I was really enjoying it. By September I was on the higher paying projects with consistent daily work, absolutely loving it. Until 2 weeks ago when all the projects disappeared off my dashboard. No explanation, no response from support apart from 'you may be under review, or the projects maybe down for some reason'. Since then I've done a couple of qualifications and a couple of the lower paying projects but never for more than an hour or two before all the work is gone. So whilst I don't think I've been kicked off, I do feel like I've been demoted 😆

Anyway, I agree, it's a great earner, so do as much as you can while it's there. I'm still hopeful that more projects will come through but you absoutely cannot rely on it.

Turkeyhen · 05/03/2024 17:13

Hi all, can I join in? I completed the DA assessments today (the starter assessment and the Core one). Got my fingers crossed.

BecauseOfIndia · 06/03/2024 07:50

@rhij86 For me it was about two days, although that was last year so it may be taking them longer now. I got a welcome email and when I went to the dashboard there were loads of projects there.

I can only echo what others have said really. I used to do Crisp but gave that up in December as it had become totally unsustainable. The work with DA is interesting, fun and sometimes intellectually challenging. A world away from the likes of Appen and Neevo! I have one project that is based on my degree subject and it pays $32.50 an hour. I was getting on average £3 on Crisp towards the end. My dream is that everyone deserts them for DA.

Another one that I don't think I've seen mentioned here is Userlytics. I get quite a lot of surveys with them (mainly app and website testing). I find they pay quite quickly and the rates are generous for the level of work.

rhij86 · 06/03/2024 08:41

@BecauseOfIndia thanks for replying. I'll keep my fingers crossed then! Did the test yesterday. I did the core one but not the coding one. Is it still possible to be offered higher paid projects (assuming I get in) depending on areas of knowledge?

Can I be nosey and ask what your degree subject is?

BecauseOfIndia · 06/03/2024 09:16

@rhij86 I am rooting for you! I know how soul destroying it is on Crisp these days. If you get accepted you'll be offered projects paying $20 and if you do well and they like what you're doing you'll be invited to higher level projects paying around $25 an hour. That all happened very quickly for me, but then the work is relevant to my skills. They definitely want creative people who are good at writing, but I know there are science based projects and maths and medicine related ones too. My degree subject is philosophy. I never dreamt it would become as useful to me as it now is!

rhij86 · 06/03/2024 09:26

@BecauseOfIndia excellent, I'm really pleased for you!

Fingers crossed then haha... Crisp really is just a slog at the moment.
I've got lots of previous work history in writing (complaints letters, reports), as well as finance before I qualified as an engineer, and now I'm a lecturer of engineering so hopefully they can find something of use in all that!

rhij86 · 07/03/2024 10:14

I've been accepted on to DA! Thanks to those of you who gave advice for getting started! Just working my way through the onboarding and qualifications, hopeful to have some tasks to work on in the coming days 👏

sorrynotathome · 07/03/2024 17:27

Congratulations @rhij86 !!

123willdelete123 · 08/03/2024 10:13

Hi everyone, I've previously used this thread but after things dried up I gave up. Just took a look at the thread and gave DA a go. Passed the initial assessment and now I have a coding qual and a core qual to do. I won't be able to then until tonight but just wondering is the Coding assessment suitable for people who haven't done coding before or should I not bother? Thanks

rhij86 · 08/03/2024 10:28

@123willdelete123 I was in the same boat as you. I haven't done the coding one as from my understanding you need to be able to understand coding enough to correct/feedback on coding that is presented to you - which I definitely can't do. So I've just done the core one for now.

Maybe if DA seems to work out and be a good fit I might make it a summer challenge to myself to learn some coding so that I can give that one a go in the future!

Good luck!

123willdelete123 · 08/03/2024 10:31

@rhij86 I remember your username from when I was on this read a few years back!! When appen was good!

Ah ok, I'll stick to second one first and yes might be an idea to learn cos seems to pay well. I was wondering if it was something I could figure out as I went along but prob not!

rhij86 · 08/03/2024 10:40

@123willdelete123 I remember my first few months on this thread making over £1k a month on appen! Haven't logged into that in months, perhaps I should give it a gander. Sounds like it's nothing like it used to be though.

123willdelete123 · 08/03/2024 11:48

@rhij86 I remember earning similar!

Does anyone know if DA is possible only using smartphone? My laptop has given up and I don't really want to buy a new one just yet!

arejcenencehche3uh9f3 · 08/03/2024 16:01

Sorry for negativity but as someone who programmed for more than 20 years it isn't something you can just pick up quickly from scratch (HTML is, but isn't really coding) and DA shouldn't be giving those tasks to people with no experience as it devalues the experience of those that can do it. Reviewing code well is something that requires quite a bit of experience. However bear in mind that I am still annoyed because I didn't get in, obviously my octopus story was crap.

Anyone doing Fivesurveys? I intially thought it was good and made £5 quickly from 7 surveys but after that didn't get credited for a survey I completed and am getting screened out a lot now so I think it's probably not worth it. Survey work in general seems to be rather dry at the moment so I'd hoped this one would be good.

123willdelete123 · 08/03/2024 16:04

@arejcenencehche3uh9f3 totally get that.

Not sure how you pass/fail the initial assessment as the pass was immediate.

arejcenencehche3uh9f3 · 08/03/2024 16:16

There's plenty of people on here and elsewhere on the internet who immediately got the "thanks we will be in touch" message after the first assessment, didn't get any further assessments to do and still have the "thanks" message months later. I assume the first assessment is marked by AI and possibly the others are too.

Turkeyhen · 08/03/2024 16:23

The DA website seems a bit flaky - I completed the Starter assessment and the Core, and it was still displaying the option to do the Coding one (which I was contemplating as I used to be a web developer, but my skills are so rusty I didn't think it would be a good idea - agree with @arejcenencehche3uh9f3's points above) - now both the Coding and Core boxes have disappeared Confused

Did anyone else get a coding question in the Core qualification?

That creative writing task in the Starter was horrible 😂

rhij86 · 08/03/2024 16:52

@arejcenencehche3uh9f3 that makes total sense, sorry if I caused any offence by my comment, it certainly wasn’t meant!
I find survey work has peaks and troughs too. Can make £20 in a few days on prolific then take almost a month to make the next 20. I haven’t tried that one you mentioned.

@Turkeyhen I didn’t get any coding questions in my core one (thankfully)!

Turkeyhen · 08/03/2024 16:56

@rhij86 how odd, I had one random coding question when I did it the other day. I was able to answer it, so it wasn't anything very complicated. Weird!

arejcenencehche3uh9f3 · 08/03/2024 17:12

No offence taken @rhij86 and @123willdelete123 . If anyone fancies dabbling in code, specifically C# there is a good free program called LINQPad which has quite a lot of examples in it and it allows you to write code without having to download something like Visual Studio.

miffymum90 · 08/03/2024 18:27

Is anyone else just getting the temporary maintenance message on DA? Haven't had any work in days :(

rhij86 · 08/03/2024 18:34

@miffymum90 that’s all I’ve got, wasn’t sure if it was because I’d only just joined or not

allthehuns · 08/03/2024 18:37

I spend ages applying for DA just to get the message that they'll be in touch. What did I do wrong Confused

MapleSpice · 08/03/2024 19:23

Possibly a daft question Grin but I'm only getting the Coding Starter assessment on DA. I haven't done any others, is there a way to access them that I'm not seeing? There's the option to skip Coding Starter at the bottom of the assessment but I've not tried that just in case it rules me out completely.
