@rhij86 - I've been doing your last post instructions over and over since last night. It still just defaults to my own location even I select use precise. Out of all my attempts only one set of tasks had one with the lat/long displayed and I had to 'give up' on that as time was nearly gone before I'd worked my way through the guidlines to the dev tools option.

I know I'll get much better at this with practice and repetition but I'm just not getting the chance to progress at all.

And I'm out in an hour to the Doom & Gloom Prison and I'm so frustrated I'm likely to tell Nasty Person to go fuck themselves Grin

DarkPassenger · 11/03/2020 09:02

Woohoo! A ray of sunshine! Just had one of my near £20 tests approved on uTest!

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:07

@darkpassenger it's so frustrating! But most people, myself included, aren't changing the location when using the geolocation button, only when we have the lat/long button.
I understand your worry about not getting paid though :-\

Hope regular work goes ok!
Well done on the utest payment :)

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:08

@SNISR it is relatively easy (bugs aside). If you can believe it, part 1 was even easier.

justtheonethen · 11/03/2020 09:10

@DarkPassenger they sent an email saying to use the results from the geo button even if they are wrong so I would just crack on.

I also got the snotty email followed by the link "again" Hmm. Arseholes!

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2020 09:12

Mine's working now, even the geo bit and latitude and longitude!

But, it says 10 per task , I've done 2. does that mean I've earned 20p? Not sure that pay rate is worth it - anyone know ?

justtheonethen · 11/03/2020 09:13

@tootyfruitypickle it's paid per hour.

toastytea · 11/03/2020 09:14

Right so we carry on regardless of geo button not working?! Hmmmm...

toastytea · 11/03/2020 09:15

I can't find an email saying that!

Flube · 11/03/2020 09:17

@rhij86 Thanks, I'm about to log back in so shall see if your suggestions work for me. If not, then I will be PMing you.

Gosh, that sounds ominous!
"I vill be PMing you. Mwahahahaaaa!" 🧛

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2020 09:21

ok thanks, and what's the pay rate by hour, surely it depends on how many tasks you complete? Just trying to work out if it's worth doing tbh

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:22

@toastytea I haven't seen an email to say carry on regardless, but I did receive one yesterday evening saying:

We are aware of the issue regarding the Geolocation Button. Please do not open tickets regarding this issue as we are already looking into this. With the large volume of raters, please be mindful that many can be reporting a single issue at once.

This was several hours BEFORE the 'why aren't any of you working' snitty email, so I'm assuming they wish for us to carry on despite the bug??

@Flube I await your PM fetches boxing gloves Grin

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:23

@tootyfruitypickle they expect you to take 15-20min per page. The hourly rate is $14 per hour. This, in theory, is regardless of how many tasks you complete, however if you consistently underperform they may remove you from the project.

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2020 09:27

Ah yes that's ok. I've done 4 now. Then I was half way through one and closed the page so might not hit that one. thanks that's v helpful !

toastytea · 11/03/2020 09:27

@rhij86 thanks! I'll continue then!

justtheonethen · 11/03/2020 09:28

@toastytea it's in the chat.

@tootyfruitypickle nope, just per hour. $14.
You can't go too slow else your page will time out.

DarkPassenger · 11/03/2020 09:35

I haven't received an email to carry on, although upthread another Appen email was mentioned that I've also not received.

I've just been told in chat that I will not be paid so waste of time to carry on. I suppose could be sabotage by someone else wanting the tasks though Grin.

Either way I'm done with this until later.

toastytea · 11/03/2020 09:35

@rhij86 @justtheonethen trying to be vague here so that I don't get in trouble but.. is it simply too 5 results or do we choose what we think are the best top 5?

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2020 09:36

brilliant ok so I've done 5 and taking a break as need to look at my real job for a bit...

Is the best strategy for this then to set timer for an hour then and power on through? I'm hoping to get back to it soon.... First projects so just getting my head around it all!

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2020 09:37

It's weirdly addictive

DarkPassenger · 11/03/2020 09:38

@toastytea - I'm pretty sure it has to be the best/most relevant to the 'searchers' currently fucking unknown location.

0htooooodles · 11/03/2020 09:38

I was hoping it would be a bit more simpler like phase 1. I'll have to set some time aside later and properly focus on it

rhij86 · 11/03/2020 09:43

this is such a minefield as no-one is really sure!! Confused

my completely unsubstantiated understanding was that this is simply the top 5 results - that is the first five that meet the criteria. Then stage 3 will be to pick the most relevant - that is best - from a list you are given.

That's how I've been doing it, but I could be completely wrong Hmm

@tootyfruitypickle each page has a 20min timer (per 5 tasks). If you go over that time you won't be paid for the work.

DarkPassenger · 11/03/2020 09:43

@rhij86 - But most people, myself included, aren't changing the location when using the geolocation button, only when we have the lat/long button.

I've had to try and change it because I'm only getting results for my own location, every time. I've given up and restarted so many times my head hurts. Each restart gives at least a few of the five queries as different, but every one still defaults to my own location. Trying to get 'precise loc' just defaults to 'unknown'.

toastytea · 11/03/2020 09:47

I think it probably is first 5 as the next part of the task seems to be selecting which best satisfy user intent.

Bit weird selecting results for my location every time, feels sooo wrong!
