I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Oops sorry I pasted your post into mine for ease of writing my response, but didn't delete yours like I intended to so it looks messy!

jjemimapuddleduck · 28/01/2019 21:43

Sorry cross post @ChakiraChakra

ChakiraChakra · 28/01/2019 21:45

😂 I'm all kinds of all over the place! Hopefully both of us are saying the same thing and it's helping not hindering 😁

hartha · 28/01/2019 21:48

It's definitely all helping!

hartha · 28/01/2019 21:51

Sorry - please see screen shot attached... have I done it right?

Looks good to me!

jjemimapuddleduck · 28/01/2019 22:15

Did you back Wolves at Skybet @hartha?

If so, that's correct but next time use the calculator on TP or OM and choose higher odds (if you can afford the liability in the Exchange) for a FB (low close odds are for TBs).

hartha · 28/01/2019 22:47

I did back Wolves! Thanks for your time and advice, I will see how I get on and look at the calculators!

Tulipsaremyfavouriteflower · 29/01/2019 08:55

Morning I’m new to MB, about to take the plunge! Would you say £50-£100 is enough to get going and I’m going to need a handhold, would anyone recommend OddsMonkey or another site? Many thanks, this thread has been really useful.

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 10:43

Welcome Tulips (I like your name!) 😁

I, and I think most people, would recommend starting with Team Profit. It's free, and easy to understand. I dived (or did I dove?) straight in to an OddsMonkey subscription too, but several on here haven't, and if you want to (I do really recommend it, their their tools are invaluable) you can get a week's free trial of the full version for £1 via a link on Team Profit.

I use team profit to understand what I need to do, and oddsmonkey to work out which matches to place things on and where, keep track of profit, and you can lay bets via a click link on OM, which saves time and helps make sure you're laying the right thing! OM can teach you too, but I find TP easier to understand.

Join Team Profit newbies on Facebook, they're brilliant and really helpful.

And good luck! Not that you need luck, when doing MB, were not gamblers you know Wink Just take things slowly and methodically and double check everything to begin with.

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 10:48

And yes £50-100 is enough to start with. Team Profit has guides you can follow for starting with £25, £50 or £100. I started with £70 in funds (I did smarkets and betfair sign up offers first) and £17.99 for OddsMonkey - so I started with £87.99. I'm on day 9 and £58 in profit. I withdrew about £30 of my original deposits, so am effectively now playing with just £40 of my original money.

If you are finding my help useful may I request you use my links to sign up with? You get a deal and so do I, one sec while I go find them...

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 10:55

Betfair £20 for us both: promos.betfair.com/choose-your-refer-and-earn-offer?referrerCode=GURLDGWJJ

Smarkets £10 for us both: smarkets.com/signup?referral=yiwo53

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 11:10

Oh, and it's also worth signing up to quidco - you and I will get a bonus £5 when you've earned £5 cashback. I'm sitting on £59.50 (the only downside is it can take up to 5 months to withdraw, but quidco are established and reliable) from a free experian credit check, a free sign up to free postcode lottery, and the big one, spending £5 at Gala Bingo for £50 cash back. They have cash back for several bookies and casinos, so it's worth doing.

Shop through Quidco and earn cashback on every purchase. Join here, it's simple and free! www.quidco.com/raf/8955249/

Thank you so much Chakira for all the very useful info and tips! Wow I didn’t realise you were only 9 days in, you are so knowledgeable! Yes I will use your links thanks again.

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 18:55

No problem, thank you for using my links! I've benefited from help from other people and spent far too long learning MB when I should have been doing my tax return so what goes around comes around :)

Golden0ldie · 29/01/2019 20:18

I’ve had a bad night. Am doing the VBet welcome offer, so bet £25 on an acca and get £25 fb. Found an acca via OM with ql of £3.51. First match on Sat was fine. Second match on Sunday, when I went tomlay the odds had changed and my ql looked as if it would move to over £5. I sat tight which was a good decision, laid just before kick-off and reduced ql to £2.51. Final match tonight. Lay odds were 2.02 when I found the acca. Last night they were 2.12 so I held and held but they kept moving the wrong way and I had to lay at 2.34 giving me a hefty ql of around £17 😮😮😮.

With my fb, I should still make some profit, more like £2/3 than expected £16 but such is life. Sob.

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 20:54

Yikes Golden! Glad you're still turning a profit from it overall.

I learned the hard way tonight. Tried to bet £10 get £50 bonus on blackjack , got excited at winning £16 and cashed out to save it... accidentally losing the £50 bonus 🙈 and for some stupid reason decided to deposit another fiver, which I played on and lost. then I did the free £5 bet I'd gone there to do and nearly cocked it up because I have noticed the OM calculator wad for wrong bookie therefore odds were different... had to cash out and re-lay correctly. Luckily, assuming I haven't cocked up again I think I'll end up around even or 19p loss, could have been worse, should have been better 😳

ThePerfect1IThinkNot · 29/01/2019 21:35

There are lots of things that Mumsnet is brilliant for but I think endorsement of Matched Betting is one of the best.

I had been watching these posts for some time now and finally plucked up courage to try back in October. Since then I have worked through the various offers listed on Team Profit and then joined Oddsmonkey and continued my successes. I did not believe that it could be so easy to make tax free money... but it is!

I do the reload betting offers but tend to concentrate on free or good deals offered on casino/bingo sites using a daily list in addition to the TP and OM sites.

My pinnacle was a single slot spin of just 20p giving me £975. I had to take a photo of it to prove to myself it was real. That money was safely in my bank account in a couple of days.

Thank you Mumsnet for giving me the confidence to start out!

Ollivander84 · 29/01/2019 22:10

2up for me tonight! £50 profit

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/01/2019 22:16

Oh well done O!

ChakiraChakra · 29/01/2019 22:21

@ThePerfect1IThinkNot
Tell me your secrets for casino/bingo sites! Who is good to follow as a guide, for tactics etc?

ThePerfect1IThinkNot · 29/01/2019 22:40

@Chakira

My daily list includes Heart, Virgin, JackpotJoy, Starspins, Monopoly, Aspers, BWIn, Buzzbingo, Coral, Paddypower, Ladbroke, Betfair, Moplay, Comeon, Skybet, Tombola, Lottoland, William Hill, Mecca, Playojo, Gala, Grosvenor. Not all of the offers are risk free and I tend to ignore anything that has wagering requirements above 10x, some days are good, some are not so good and others can be brilliant!

It does get a bit scary when I see how much money is going in and out of the account but I have managed to put away £1,500 and keep balances for ongoing float and matched betting.

I also look at the OM and TP daily lists just in case I have missed something on other sites.

Ollivander84 · 29/01/2019 22:45

@ThePerfect1IThinkNot how do you decide what offers to do?

Ollivander84 · 29/01/2019 22:49

To be slightly more specific Grin I checked starspins and sky Vegas and no real offers

ThePerfect1IThinkNot · 29/01/2019 23:05

Ollivander84

With some sites they offer free games eg Starspins have a daily free game which has been quite lucrative when you get free spins. There isn’t necessarily something in promotions every day. Skyvegas have a prize wheel although it may only be available if you have wagered £10+ in the past.
