I know there have been numerous threads on this topic, but I have struggled to understand how to go about getting started. The more I read about it the more overwhelmed I become. Spreadsheets, separate bank accounts , odds, blah blah . It may as well be quantum mechanics!
I need the money for a specific reason so I need to get to grips with it all and get started. I am an intelligent person, I just need to persevere.
I would really appreciate some very basic advice. I know about OddsMonkey and other sites. I have watched the videos and understand the basic concept, but then I am lost. I don't want to make mistakes and lose money.
Help!

Anyone finding they've sunk a.massive amount of money in to this? I've sunk about £800 and am still only around £90 up after a week. I need to withdraw funds from the exchange on Monday in time to pay my bills!! I'm feeling a bit daft but I guess a 10% return in a week is good

jjemimapuddleduck · 26/01/2019 09:17

Yes! Much more than expected. I have just under £600 currently in play, but should have a healthy profit of £260+ by the end of the weekend, for 3w work. I am just crossing my fingers and toes that I haven't made any mistakes for the matches this weekend! A good chunk of my money will be withdrawn early next week as I've got a tax bill to pay.

My first goal is to have a reasonable exchange balance of purely profits in time for Cheltenham (not that I know anything about horse racing! Any tips anyone?!?).

I think the TP guide of start with £100 is unrealistic. Perhaps only realistic if you wanted it to take you months to make any money!

Ollivander84 · 26/01/2019 09:18

@Ineedtonamechangenow yeah I'm similar but I see it more as moving money about to gain money if that makes sense? Sadly life got in the way and I had to withdraw and use my winnings but at least I had them to use!
My tactic is hammer the offers on pay day and all that week while I can afford money tied up and then I drip it back into my account

Coppermine · 26/01/2019 09:54

Ineedtonamechangenow I've put in £350 and I'm just over £600 up since 3rd December. But I also can go days without doing anything (maybe I'm a part time MBer!), so it would be higher if I put more effort in.

I think the first couple of weeks tend to be small profits but it increases over time.

Coppermine · 26/01/2019 09:55

@jjemimapuddleduck how did you get on with WH GG? I didn't do it this time as the QL was around £2 again so thought I would sit it out this time.

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 26/01/2019 10:04

ive hit a massive hurdle in my mb career...mainly because I used most of the low level introduction offers couple of years ago. so I've only really got the ones which demand more liability. And the other issue is lack of money, I feel less sure about having to use £45 of my own money just to make £7... don't know what to do really. I wonder if I should just leave the introductory offers for now and concentrate on very slowly building profits using reload offers.

Ineedtonamechangenow · 26/01/2019 10:28

I made a massive cock up on my weekend bets. I layed and backed wolves but I layed wolves v villa and backed the wolves fa cup match. Spent me ages to unpick and match all.my bets. I was trying to make the most of the Betfair bet 5x£10 and get a free bet so it was ok in the end. Also I offset it against a qualifying bet with another bookie. It was such a headache. Not sure on my ql because I now need to go and work out what to do with recording my bets in oddsmonkey but that'll be a job for when the boys are napping at lunch

Coppermine · 26/01/2019 10:42

I've done well on some free spins this morning

10 spins from William Hill = £8 win
5 spins from Betfair = £6.45 (they were 1p spins too, 10p spins would have been nicer!)

Ineedtonamechangenow · 26/01/2019 10:55

I need to begin to investigate other avenues. I'm only really betting on football. I did try an accumulator for over the weekend with an odds boost so will see how that goes

Ollivander84 · 26/01/2019 10:58

I've started doing some horses, they're fairly easy

KTD27 · 26/01/2019 11:59

jjemima I’ve just used your link! Hope it works.
Mine is Do you want to get a free stock share worth up to ‎£ 100?

Create a Trading212Invest account using this link www.trading212.com/ref/3s6bsTV and we both get a free share!

Just familiarising myself with profit accumulator and will hopefully take the plunge soon. Only slowly but it seems too good to be true

PrivateDoor · 26/01/2019 19:40

I definitely recommend the horses. I was very nervous too but over the last two days got £20 in FB from Coral (£1 per length your horse wins by, I backed three horses which all won), £10 FB on PP, WH scratchcard £5 FB offer, and £22 in BOG's which were a lovely bonus. They are definitely worth doing.

jjemimapuddleduck · 26/01/2019 20:16

Hello!

I am feeling very cheery this evening, as I won £47 on a free scratchcard from Paddy Power and then, 5 minutes late, £13.90 on free spins from Grosvenor Casinos! Both amounts are withdrawable, yahoo! - £60.90 for about 10 minutes work while the haggis, neeps and tatties were cooling (I know I'm a day late!).

I don't know if anyone remembers my Foxy Bingo fuck up a couple of weeks ago where I misunderstood what to do to get the £30 bonus. Well, what I did do was buy £10 worth of bingo tickets for a big bingo game tonight! I'm not holding out much hope, but keeping an eye on proceedings in case I'm lucky! If not, my £10 is long gone and I certainly won't make that mistake again!

I have had another bumper weekend of matched bets (for me) with 9 matches played or due to play, then I've another to back/lay for tomorrow later tonight once I have some cash back in the exchange after an evening FA Cup match. I like to have all my bets settled by a Sunday evening then I can work out my exact profits/where all my money is, withdraw some money and work out if I'm on track to meet my savings goal. All my bets will settle by tomorrow evening apart from my Smarkets Fulham reload which is in its 3rd week I think and that's because Fulham don't play in the PL again until this Tuesday.

@KTD27, thank you very very much for using my Trading212 link, I'll keep you posted! I would encourage anyone to use your link as its money for absolutely nothing!

@Coppermine, I had a £1.41 loss on the Golden Goal last night. I am keeping a track of my qualifying losses for this, to see if its worth doing. If I can win £50-£80 every 10 weeks or so, then I guess its still worth £20 qualifying loss over a number of weeks to do so, does that make sense?

@Ineedtonamechangenow, oh no, that is my worst nightmare! I hope your qualifying loss isn't too high. Let us know.

And I can't remember who it was who spoke about the unmatched bets - that happened to me twice this week and I panicked! However when I read the TP guide and went back later to sort them, they had matched themselves! So I guess somebody had bet on the other side in the meantime?

Golden0ldie · 26/01/2019 21:08

jjemima .., wow, well done you! Good Saturday.

I’ve been really slow this week. Thanks to those who answered my casino question - used my free £5 but no joy. A few small wins but it was £100 wagering and I had to stop. I started the Novibet new account offer. It’s one of the three Acca qualifying bets and I had held off waiting for reasonable QLs. Have my £25 fb waiting to be used but cannot find a decent match. Did the VBet acca tonight but it plays over the next four days. Decided to do the OM Moplay mobile, bet £10 on a FA cup match tonight and get a free bet to use tomorrow night. Downloaded app to my phone and when I logged in I had a welcome back, deposit £10 and get a £10 free bet offer. Even better.

How do you all get the free spins and scratchcards? Are they email or text offers or am I missing a trick on the websites?

jjemimapuddleduck · 27/01/2019 09:17

I did the PP offer last night, where you bet £10 on the tennis Aus. Open final and then get a free bet boost. I placed my TB on Nadal and QL was £0.31. I have now received my bet boost in my account but now cannot for the life of me find a close odds football match for this afternoon to boost! Even with a boost, I'd still make a loss from what I can find. If anyone finds a close odds back/lay football match for this afternoon/evening, can they please let me know so I can boost it and make back my QL & a £1 or £2? Thank you thank you!

@Golden0ldie, I got both Paddy Power scratchcard and Grosvenor Casinos free spins via my email yesterday.

maudmoo · 27/01/2019 09:49

Sometimes I use the pp boosts for a profit if there’s one available but used yesterday’s on Spanish football to reduce the ql as pp pay on these if 2up - luckily it came in 👍🏻 so won at bookies and exchange- + 285 after smaller ql

SmugglingSeaweed · 27/01/2019 10:55

I found a game on WH with great odds that will give me a small profit on the TB.

Can I then use my free WH bets to bet the other way? EG I’ve placed £10 of my own money on Team A winning, and placed the free £30 bet on Team A losing. I will make about £32 overall profit but it seems too good to be true. Very new to this so dot want to rush in and be gubbed straight away.

Thanks!

maudmoo · 27/01/2019 11:06

Don’t place bets on the two sides, they’ll gub you super fast and try not to arb too as they don’t like that either.

SmugglingSeaweed · 27/01/2019 11:16

Thanks, I thought it looked far too easy Blush

user1533903238 · 27/01/2019 14:46

Hi, I’ve just started matched betting this week and have been lurking this thread so thought I’d join in now I’ve done a couple of my free bets.

I’ve got a potentially decent float, although I’ve only put £200 in so far as I’ve been waiting to make sure it works and I actually know what I’m doing! I’ve signed up to oddsmonkey and am using that to work through the introductory bets.

How much has everyone else made from the intro bets? There’s a lot of mention on the websites of being able to make £1k in the first month or two, which I would love but how plausible is it in reality?

Also anyone whose still going past the intro bets... is it realistic to make say £200 a month longer term, if I’m willing to put an hour in most evenings?

Ineedtonamechangenow · 27/01/2019 16:32

@user1533903238 I'm a week in and up about £120 with a couple of mess ups. Odds monkey is definitely worth it. Although I find myself wanting to sink more and more money into it. I'm trying to hold back now

jjemimapuddleduck · 27/01/2019 21:30

So I've done all my sums and I've made £116.30 this week and £318.27 in total (end of week 3). I'm definitely on track! I've withdrawn a good chunk of my own money, leaving some of my own money plus profit made to date still in play across various bookies and exchanges.

I've signed up to the OM £1 trial for a week, I will see how useful it is this week!

jjemimapuddleduck · 27/01/2019 21:32

@user1533903238, have you read this? It sounds like it's relatively straightforward to make £300 odds p/m:-

hartha · 27/01/2019 22:06

Hello! I've been following this thread with interest.... would love to get good at MB but I'm struggling with some of the terminology... what is the Liability? If on Betfajr it says "Liabilty £25" on a £10 lay bet, does that mean if the team wins I pay out £25 in total or £35? Any help much appreciated

jjemimapuddleduck · 27/01/2019 22:14

Hi hartha,

Liability is what you lose at the Exchange if your back bet wins. This amount immediately comes off your Exchange balance when the bet is layed and will be credited plus your lay stake if the lay wins. Does that make sense? It's probably easier to do a low stake bet with a low QL (qualifying loss) to see what I mean as it's easier to understand in practice.

Have you looked at the 'New to Matched Betting - Start Here' Team Profit guides and videos, it's very easy to follow and user friendly. Good luck!
