WANTED: 12 lovely mums for a new book club

Hello, My name is Dominique, I am a keen reader and I just find this idea of a book club fabulous. I was too late for joining the last thread s I guess the best is to start a new one. I am a mother of 2 (3 years and a great reader of 12) My house is full of books (in french and english.....

Maybe it's cause we are too nice calling ourselfs lovely mums and need to come up with another name something to ID as the hell's angels of mn should do it I agree about us all getting in here to sort it out how about the third Sunday night in may? Wine, ideas and resolve!

I can be around on Sunday evening. What time? - I need to book my laptop time around 5 DCs apparently doing "revision" - their revision page always looks remarkably like the facebook page to me!

I see Cariboo has got my book then and I think the other one is Wiseoldelf's (which everyone else has raved about, but I wont get to read )

Just a thought. If we put off our discussion for a week I could put my book in the post to Wiseoldelf and pop a note in telling her to come on here and hopefully we could also track down LOLer and and HC1. ANyone else I've missed?

I can make it on here Sunday night too, though probably around 7.00 UK time (8.00 here in France) as want to get the DC's to bed at a reasonable time and then I can relax and crack open the wine.

Actually you can make that any Sunday for me, I never go anywhere

Maybe a good place for us to start would be if we all had emails for each other (or Facebook I suppose) so if we have an issue we can all contact each other quickly. Rather than having to put notes in with books etc.

Yep good idea. I have CAT, maybe that should be one of our criteria for joining?

Just heard from cariboo on another thread! All is not lost!

So hopefully LBAM can expect a book in the next week or so - I told Cariboo to post one and hold onto one because she hasn't read either.

Woooo - just had a massive catch up. Due to birthdays, volcanoes and work getting in the way haven't been on MN at all since last swap over. Relised that we were coming up to the end of the month so thought I should post.

I would like to say that Wiseoldelf is always very punctual and the little notes are nice, rather than just getting a book in an envelope!

I agree that it would probably be cheaper to just take a risk on a book in a charity shop but I like the sort of recommendation from someone else. So I would like to continue.

I haven't got CAT but don't mind sharing my email details and or facebook. Maybe at the next round we should say who we all are too - HC, didn't know you were pg, and PA - 5dc and able to read (amazed smiley!).

Finally - Wiseoldelf - when you get my book don't bother posting it on. Can do without yet another thing cluttering up the house!

Hi PA. Hmm are we one of the most successful ? That's good to know .

I guess its luck as to who you have in the group. We have had our issues though - a rogue postie somewhere not delivering, illnesses etc etc. But I think May is our last month and we've just about made it. There'll be a bit of straggling at the end but that's not bad.

What's made us successful - hmm, I guess people have been good about checking here every so often and problems have been sorted out quickly, Swissmiss, who set us up has checked in regularly and helped to sort out problems and holds all the info centrally (list of books, emails etc).

I think to make it v. successful is to make a rule that books are psoted on regardless of whether finished or not to keep the flow. Then they can always be got from a library to be finished. Maybe also making a rule that books should be under a certain word limit. Both those are just my thoughts, not something we've done.

Good luck - hope you get it sorted. I think hen it works its great. I have had my eyes/mind open to lots of new authors which I wouldn't have touched otherwise.

oh and another thing... just on the whole book swap thing in general. I think everyone should comment on the book. I know its hard sometimes to find the time but I think its all part and parcel of the bookswap thing.

• its me back now......... I think we need to nominate a leader who can keep everyones details. We also need to communicate more regularly on the central board.

For everyone about my 5 DC. They are now older. ages between 12 and 18. (yes all very close together 5 with less than 6 years between eldest & youngest. No twins, and youngest adopted from Russia) I am now able to read and have a little "me" time to make up for all the years of not even being able to go into the loo alone!!

Well that sounds pretty positive and we've kind of touched on a couple of the issues in our discussions amongst ourselves.

Maybe set up a group on Facebook or something for our book group that we can click on to discuss/chat informally and might be a good idea if anyone isn't keen on handing out email info. I don't know how to do this (it was hard enough for me to set up a facebook account for myself), it's just a suggestion off the top of my head, but will be able to give us all access to each other.

So hopefully everyone's gearing up to sending their books on at the end of this week - maybe we can have a hassle free month.

This thread has moved on a long way since I posted on Monday. It sounds really positive and hopefully our next round will run a lot more smoothly and maybe we can get a bit more discussion going about the books. I am happy to join a facebook group. Sorry, but I am not around Sunday evening as am away.

I will be posting my next book on to WTD n the next few days. I hope you enjoy it has been my favourite so far.

I have just tried to join the facebook group but can't seem to find it. Am probably doing something wrong but if you have managed to join could you let me know how you did it.
