The Thread for Happy Thoughts

I thought that as well as having threads here where we can talk about our worries, concerns and feelings as we come to terms with issues related to experiencing an MC we needed a thread where we could talk about things that make us smile to cheer anyone up who needs cheering up. As someone very wise said in one of these threads a couple of weeks' ago: it can't rain all the time! So here is my 'happy thought' of the day: today my second son was getting himself dressed (he's 27 months and going through an independence phase) and he was struggling with his top which was inside out and he said to me 'mummy it is too rectangled I can't do it!' I looked at his little face and just burst out laughing and it felt wonderful!

Hi CE so glad you survived your first day back. I had a similar situation the first time I had to face all my friends here and I was so nervous beforehand but everyone was lovely to me.

I've just driven with DS1 to visit his new primary school near our new house. I've been driving for 5 hours and am totally zonked out. I think a gin and tonic is in order later this evening zzzzz.

Oh and I meant to say my happy story for today

A lovely woman at work was talking to me today, told me she had a MC before she had her children, I had no idea. Then, she said her neice had one 1 year ago almost to the day, but has just given birth to a beautiful baby boy! She was so happy, and so was I. How lovely

Becky - hope your ds likes his new school and he settles in well. It's always a tricky time for then isn't it! G&T sounds good! Well I don't like Gin but think a nice glass of merlot miught be in order tomorrow night - can't actually remember the last drink I had !!!!! Think one sniff of the barmaids apron and I'll be hammered!

Morning! Have a lovely time. I'm off to Cambridge tomorrow to learn to play the Bongos for my friend's hen weekend.

ChocolateEclair · 20/06/2008 19:32

hope ses is having a nice time in cork. Enjoy a few murphy's and mohito's for us!!!

becky - have a fab time in cambridge playing the bongos!!

Today was OK, felt a bit tearful at times, but got through it! DP and I are going shopping tomorrow for some good old retail therapy! Might look for a hat for my sis wedding! DP has to get a suit and he looks yummy in smart stuff . Should be a welcome distraction.

BeckyBendyLegs · 22/06/2008 13:46

My happy thought: I had a FAB time with the bongos. It was actually a day-long session on how to play the samba and it was the perfect therapy after all that's happened to me recently. It was just a day of total release and fun. The hen group were a real mixture of friends of the bride, mother, auntie, oldest friend, and we had a really good time and had a lovely meal and later dancing in one of those loud pubs with music places. There was a slight melancholy to the day for me but I'll write about that in the sad and miserable thread I think rather than here.

Hope you have all had a good weekend

ChocolateEclair · 23/06/2008 07:43

becky - glad you enjoyed your bongo weekend! Sounds like they were a nice bunch of ladies, and hope it took your mind off things for a little while.

Ses - thinking of you today. Hope it all goes well and is over with a soon as possible xx

I am well and truly papping myself! Appointment is at 9 am, feel so nervous like I'm going to throw up. Hopefully it will all be over very soon, and life can move on.

BeckyBendyLegs · 23/06/2008 08:07

I hope it goes ok Ses and for you today also ChocolateEclair. I'll be thinking of you today.

Thinking of you ChocolateEclair and Ses15 today....

ChocolateEclair · 23/06/2008 14:35

Hi MrsKing - how are you today?

Everything went well at the epu (as well as could be expected). Everything has thankfully passed naturally, so I don't need to see them again. I can't tell you how relieved I am! Not sure if the sonographer understood why we were smiling, when obviously she was giving 'bad' news.

I was thinking about sending the lovely midwife there a thankyou card. What do you think?

MrsKing · 23/06/2008 15:26

Hi CE, glad you got today over with....it is such a relief to be back home isn't it? I would definitely send a card to your midwife if she was lovely.

I am feeling very positive today, got a busy week ahead which always helps. I am going to try and de-stress for a while and not be so focused on getting pregnant.

Hope everyone else is having a good day, hope Ses15 is ok too.

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/06/2008 11:23

My happy thought for today: I'm going shopping this afternoon hopefully to find a wedding outfit, new shoes, and a hat! I do have to take my two DSs with me and they HATE clothes shopping so I will have to try to be focussed and not dither about. But it is so rare that I can go shopping with a mission! Also my AF is in full flow so we can start TTC very soon. Scary and exciting at the same time.

Ses15 · 25/06/2008 11:38

Morning all!

Becky - shopping trip sounds great Hope DSs don't get too frustrated!

Monday all over with. Slight drama (I guess I'm getting used to the fact that drama is all part of this ttc) when after the op, I was lying in recovery just coming round. Thought I felt a bit faint but wasn't sure if I was awake enough to tell anyone and then not sure whether my machine bleeped or whether one of the nurses just happened to notice but my blood pressure dropped to 55 over 25 with a pulse of 33! They had to give me some stropine and more fluids and soon everything was fine!

Although quite uncomfortable Monday afternoon/evening now hardly any pain or bleeding so hoping it stays that way!

I've been lurking on mn since then. Feeling a bit of a fraud on here now as I'm not a mum and I'm not pregnant and I'm not even ttc until Septemberish.

However, my happy thought is that maybe by lurking / posting on here it will help in the future with ttc and hopefully once I actually get to being a mum.

Hope everyone else is doing ok today

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/06/2008 11:59

Morning Ses15

Poor you! Sounds very dramatic. Glad you're fine now.

Don't feel a fraud - everyone is welcome here! I don't post much on the posts about being a mum at the moment it is mostly here and in the TTC threads.

I'm about to make lunch: wraps. Yum.

Thanks Becky!

I'm just off into town as no food in the house! Hopefully won't be long and then I can come back and watch Wimbledon!

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/06/2008 15:39

We didn't go shopping in the end. I forgot that we have to wait in for a courier to pick up my laptop which is being returned to Dell. So we're still here and the sun is now shining. I want to go out somewhere, anywhere!!!

I could put Wimbledon on I suppose...I used to watch it every summer religiously, especially when I was at school / university and supposedly revising for exams. Now I am out of touch completely.

OP posts:
Ses15 · 25/06/2008 16:14

Hi Becky! I'm now sat down glued to Wimbledon. I have a friend that's gone there for the day today. She said she'd wave but I've not seen her yet!

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/06/2008 16:26

An ex of mine works for the BBC and he's there every day - lucky bastard. He emailed me yesterday to say that Beyounce had just walked past!

We're giving up on the Dell man now as it is 4.30pm and we've got cabin fever so off to the local Co-op for icelollies. DH will KILL me if the Dell man arrives while we're away. I'll have to think of an excuse for not answering the door.

ChocolateEclair · 25/06/2008 17:44

Hi becky and ses!

Ses - glad you are ok, although it does sound very dramatic. I have been thinking about you and hoping it all went well. How have you been since monday? Sounds good watching wimbledon! i love it too! When do you plan on returning to work? Don't feel a fraud about being on here - I'm not a mum yet either!

becky - how horrid having to stay in all day for nothing! I hate waiting for deliveries and stuff! Hope you had fun playing with your ds's. So are you starting ttc again straight away?

We had a bit of a talk and have decided to go for it right away, hoping it happens quick! I did another pg test and there was only the very feintest of lines so hopefully my hormones are now returning to normal!

Work have been fab all week, lots of people asked how monday went which was OK actually. I took some cakes in yesterday to say thankyou - much appreciated I reckon!

BeckyBendyLegs · 25/06/2008 18:54

Ooooh enough of the fraud business! Noooo! I think wanting to be a mum and trying to be a mum means you are as much justified being here as someone with six children like a friend of mine who literally has popped one out a year for six years. She says she thinks she has enough now. She's only 26.

The Dell man didn't turn up in the end. Grrrrr! Not a happy thought. I am hoping to go to town tomorrow instead so if they say 'we'll come tomorrow' instead I think I'll scream.

It's 'tidyup' time now in our house so better go and help the DSs tidy.

It's been quiet here today! Hope you're all ok.

Can I ask how long anyone had off work after their mc? I was meant to be on annual leave last week but after appointments on Monday, Tuesday and 2 on Wednesday, my GP signed me off for the week instead. This week after ERPC on Monday I have been signed off for the week again. Am due to go back Monday but the EPU want me to go for a scan at 10am Monday morning so I plan to go back Monday afternoon. Yesterday I was thinking that I was lucky with having an unbelievable amount of time off and this afternoon I am now feeling apprehensive about going back. I know I will go back Monday afternoon but just wondered whether I was being completely unreasonable to take these 2 weeks guilt free??

ChocolateEclair · 26/06/2008 19:27

ses i think you should take as much time off as you feel you need. I had last mon, tue, wed off (mon at scan and then having MC) and went back in thurs and fri. Then I just had mon off this week to go back for scan. If I had to go for ERPC I would have taken all this week off probably. Don't feel guilty about it. I think it depends on your job as well - I didn't want to break down in front of a class full of teenagers! I too was very nervous about going back and facing everyone. I found it was nowhere near as bad as I expected!

Ses15 · 26/06/2008 19:35

Thanks CE. It's just really difficult to judge when your emotions are involved because it becomes quite individual and subjective. I am going to go back in next Monday after the scan but know I'll find it hard.

I'm a pharmacist and store manager for a well known chain of chemists! and found it difficult when I went back last time as I'm the most senior member of staff in the store and so feel I need to try and lead the way and always have to be smiling and positive for not only the staff but the customers as well. On the flip side I think I should just pull myself together and get on with it!

My boss is the area manager and he was quite understanding back in April but not so sure now.

BeckyBendyLegs · 30/06/2008 16:19

Hi guys

I'm probably not going to post much here from now on as I have had my AF and it's been and gone and I am officially TTCing again! I hope the Thread for Happy Thoughts lives on though and helps people like me who when coping with the sheer awfulness of an MC need the odd bit of light in their lives to remind themselves that sadness can't last forever. If any of you are braving the TTC bandwaggon again you're most welcome to join the TTC thread founded by fellow 'was due in Dec 08'ers: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1366/545458 in the TTC bit of MN. Hope to see you there .
