The Thread for Happy Thoughts

I thought that as well as having threads here where we can talk about our worries, concerns and feelings as we come to terms with issues related to experiencing an MC we needed a thread where we could talk about things that make us smile to cheer anyone up who needs cheering up. As someone very wise said in one of these threads a couple of weeks' ago: it can't rain all the time! So here is my 'happy thought' of the day: today my second son was getting himself dressed (he's 27 months and going through an independence phase) and he was struggling with his top which was inside out and he said to me 'mummy it is too rectangled I can't do it!' I looked at his little face and just burst out laughing and it felt wonderful!

choceclaire wine gums and chocolate sound marvelous to me!!!

My laugh for the day was when I just returned from the hairdresser having spent the morning being cut and coloured and my lovely ds said to me "mummy why have you got yellow and brown in your hair?" Charming comment having just felt quite pleased with my newly highlighted locks!!!! Obviously not to a 5 yr olds tastes.

I am 35 by the way. Had ds at 29 and struggled to conc for the last 3.5 yrs and when we finally managed it this yr I have had 2 consec mc's. Hoping for 3rd time lucky.

southernbelle77 · 17/06/2008 15:34

Well my sort of happy thought of day is.....

This is the first day of the rest of my life!

That is not to say that I am not sad and still upset about what has happened, but as of today I want to change things for the better. New hair and new healthy eating regime is top of the agenda today!

And later I need to try and make a 'birthday cake' out of rice cakes! Not sure how it's going to work but can imagine it will be fun trying!! (did I say fun, or stressful?!!)

I'm 31 btw. Had DD at 27 and was very lucky in getting pregnant with her quickly. I've now had 2 consecutive mc's but hoping that I will go on to have a sucessful pregnancy next time round.

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 15:43

I'm having my hair cut on Friday! Perhaps it a post-MC thing to do. I also feel kind of hopeful and optimistic now.

choceclaire your description made me laugh! Chocolate and wine gums does sound nice. When I was pg I couldn't face eating chocoate so now I am eating it like it is going out of fashion because it tastes so YUMMY now!

I'm going on a hen do this weekend and I'm really excited. Apparently we are going to learn to play the bongos in the day time and have dinner and dancing in the evening.

poppy - that has made me smile!

I am trying to think of the most unhealthy thing I can to have for my tea! Was tending towards a chinese takeaway!

Becky - LOL about the haircut. I was thinking I might get a spray tan. I have never had one before. Does anyone know how naked you have to get??? (my body is feeling a little invaded at present so not sure if it's the best plan!)

I have my sister's wedding in a month - so trying to take some consolation that I might be able to squeeze into my gorgeous dress that I had originally intended to wear (before I was pg), bu thought would never fit! (strange that the small things make a little bit of difference )

ChocolateEclair · 17/06/2008 17:23

I forgot to say. I am 30, and this is my 1st baby, 1st MC. Hoping I was just unlucky this time.

MrsKing · 17/06/2008 17:29

Hi, I would love to join this thread! I NEED to join this thread is more like it...

I had a termination last Nov as I was expecting conjoined twins...I have since had 2 mc's, the latest one was last week. I already have 2 dc so am very lucky but I am desperate for a third.

Sending happy thoughts to everyone out there...I think a haircut, glass of wine, long bath, chocolate, shopping, spa-day, whatever you feel like doing is in order.

I am quite hopeful for the future but this journey can feel very sad and lonely sometimes. Best wishes to everyone.

ChocolateEclair · 17/06/2008 17:50

Right I have ordered the chinese takeaway! My Mum is bringing it round in half an hour!

Look on my profile for piccie of the flowers my darling DP has brought me! How fab is that! (he is lovely )

Mrs King - hope you are ok - you have had a really bad run. You do sound positive though, which is great. I am trying to be positive today as well

MrsKing · 17/06/2008 18:24

Thanks Choc. As for sounding positive I think sometimes you have to 'fake it to make it'!! It does help talking on MN to people that have been through mc too.

Flowers from DP and chinese takeaway sound good, must mention that to my DH!! Enjoy!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 19:14

Hi MrsKing welcome! I also have two and am desperate for number 3 (I've had two MCs, one between DS1 and DS2 and the other last month).

Ooooh what I'd do for a spa day. I can manage the other things fairly easily.

chocolateeclair I a wedding to go to soon too. I am going to a close friend's wedding in July and I was going to be about 5 months pregnant but now I can wear something non-maternity and drink champagne and dance until dusk with the rest of them. Somehow that should make me feel really happy. Not sure it does really. Reminds me of the first glass of wine I drank after my MC - I had tears rolling down my face and DH was saying 'but you can drink wine again!' Life is strange.

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 19:16

Chinese takeaway and flowers sound lovely. There should be a Dadsnet where our DHs could post messages and say 'hey I bought my DW some flowers why don't you do the same?' and then we'd all get flowers. That would be funny!

OP posts:
BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 19:17

Ooooh just looked at your flowers. Lovely .

OP posts:
Ses15 · 17/06/2008 19:18

Becky - good idea! And there is a Dadsnet thread on mn! Maybe we just need to introduce all our other halves to it!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 19:25

I didn't know there was one already. Cool. Although I can't see my DH going for it, not unless he could chat endlessly about scart cabels and Bablyon 5 or whatever it is he watches when I'm not around.

OP posts:
Ses15 · 17/06/2008 19:35

I know what you mean! My DH did ask if he could join in the other day but knowing him he's more likely to pretend to be me and wind everyone else on the thread up! (So watch out! )

MrsKing · 17/06/2008 19:46

Hi BBL - sometimes I feel greedy to so desperately want another, especially as I had my two dc with no trouble at all.

I know what you mean about weddings - my bil's wedding is one month after my baby would have been born next year. I had already started to look at outfits h/she could have worn.

That is the one of the hardest thing to deal with, losing all your plans for the future.

Oops, just remembered we should be having happy thoughts. Well my poor old DH is due in any minute after a tough day at work. Off to make his dinner and tidy up.

sonnyoutlook · 17/06/2008 20:48

happy thought for the day:-

i'm 38, DS is 10wks on thursday.
He's been ill today and vomited over me twice & my dad once and I've loved it!!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 20:56

Now there's a happy thought...hmmmm!

poppy27 · 17/06/2008 21:13

Welcome mrsking so sorry to hear what a difficult period you have been through. Hope that we have all turned the lucky corner now and things will be on the up for us.

All this talk of food..... DH out tonight and ds tucked up in bed so going to have a big bowl of raspberries, meringue and ice cream - yummy.

It is my mum's 60th b'day on fri and will now toasting her with a large glass of champagne and getting my dad to make me a happy day cocktail! Will prob go straight to my head after months of no alchohol. Will get back on the abstinence bandwagon after AF shows up.

ChocolateEclair · 18/06/2008 09:18

morning to you all. Hope we are all feeling a little better, and thinking some more positive happy thoughts. Poppy I hope we have all turned the lucky corner now(Fab phrase)!

I have to say the meringue, icecream and raspberry combo sounds delicious! I might be brave and leave the house today to go and get some!!

My happy thought is going to come from looking for a summer holiday on the internet! We weren't going to have one due to pg but think we might deserve it now! I might even book it without telling DP - what do you think? Anywhere you guys would recommend?

Ses15 · 18/06/2008 09:45

Morning! ChocolateEclair - I'm with you on the holiday front! I've been looking on the internet this morning for a nice sunny getaway! Probably won't be able to go unitl September as DH has recently started a new job but even if we have to wait 'til September, that's fine with me! Definitely a happy thought

msdynamo · 18/06/2008 10:49

Hello! I must report that my acupuncture made me feel really good yesterday, and the effects are continuing today.

Just to add, a list of things that lift our spirits:

Holidays in hot countries
Green and Blacks -obviously, duh!
Hair dye!
A new hairstyle
A bunch of flowers (pay attention men)
Gifts of any kind, but must be things we actually want.
Shopping
DS's and DD's for those lucky enough to have them
Dogs, as in my pooch who makes me laugh

Please feel free to add any other things

Ses15 · 18/06/2008 10:57

Actually, how could I have glossed over the fact that it's our 2nd Wedding Anniversary next Tues and my DH is treating us to a wkend away to Cork this wkend!! (Ok so that means no access to mumsnet from about 11am Friday til about 7pm Sunday.... OMG am I addicted???!!!) Cork - yay!!

ChocolateEclair · 18/06/2008 11:13

ooo now Cork sounds great! I have never been. I'm sure you will have a fantastic time and be able to sample all the guiness! I have been to Dublin and it was excellent, so hope you enjoy. Happy 2nd wedding anniversary - I can't wait to get married. It must be fab!

Well, I did it! I went out, to the shop. Didn't see anyone I knew so that was a relief! Got some stuff to make bangers and mash and onion gravy for our tea....DP's favourite seing as he's been lovely. (Don't know what I would do without him)

Actually msdynamo I have a hair dye kit here so I might do it later on! I wasn't sure if I was allowed to use it while pg, so will take the chance now!

Ses15 · 18/06/2008 11:20

My DH is irish but he's never been to Cork either so it will be a nice little adventure I'd never been to Ireland until I met him nearly 4yrs ago and I love it! His family are all still over there and live in a little village about 60 miles south of Dublin. He's one of 6 children and so we have 8 nieces and nephews over there!

Well done on getting out to the shops. It's amazing how what we may have previously taken for granted become a bit of a challenge. We just need to try and take ourselves a bit further forward each day and we WILL get there!

mamalovesmojitos · 18/06/2008 12:04

saw this in active convos and had to hijak to say you dont drink guinness in cork. only in dublin!
