The Thread for Happy Thoughts

I thought that as well as having threads here where we can talk about our worries, concerns and feelings as we come to terms with issues related to experiencing an MC we needed a thread where we could talk about things that make us smile to cheer anyone up who needs cheering up. As someone very wise said in one of these threads a couple of weeks' ago: it can't rain all the time! So here is my 'happy thought' of the day: today my second son was getting himself dressed (he's 27 months and going through an independence phase) and he was struggling with his top which was inside out and he said to me 'mummy it is too rectangled I can't do it!' I looked at his little face and just burst out laughing and it felt wonderful!

Well, I went to A&E today about still testing positive after suspected m/c, and was told to go for a scan on monday to see what's happening. Fingers crossed

Ses15 · 14/06/2008 22:05

Absolutely fingers crossed for you LBB. Will be thinking of you.

littleboyblue · 14/06/2008 22:11

Thank you! Because I didn't go hospital at time of m/c, and my last actual period was March, they wanna check how far along I am. They've told me to assume I'm pregnant but trying not to get too excited coz of m/c history.
All this does get easier and you're not alone.

Ses15 · 14/06/2008 22:13

I guess you'll need to try and keep yourself busy tomorrow. Have you got anything planned?

littleboyblue · 14/06/2008 22:21

Not really, usual stuff, bit of housework, park with ds and dog, that about it really. Money a bit tight at mo so haven't planned anything special.
If I am pg and it's a new 1, I'll only be about 4/5 wks so they won't see anything monday anyway so think I've got a while of keeping myself busy!

Ses15 · 14/06/2008 22:23

It's all the waiting isn't it!!!

Just out of interest, did you have the dog before or after ds? If before, how did dog react to ds? We have 2 cocker spaniels and not sure how they'd react (if/when we ever get there!)

littleboyblue · 14/06/2008 22:31

My dog is a staff cross. She'd been with me for about 3 years before ds came along and is doing really well.
I was concerned as she went through terrible 2's and could be a bit aggressive, but she was perfect.
I just walked in with baby, held him infront of her, she sniffed and walked off! Now she tries to lick him all the time and he pulls at her ears and so far she's been fine.
Tips I was given-

  1. Get a doll, one that makes noises and sit on sofa holding it so you can teach dogs the time NOT to jump up

  2. Have DP bring home a blanket from hospital so dog can get used to the baby's smell

I also place treats in ds's hand so dog knows he's her friend IYKWIM
Think as long as you still find time for dogs everything should be ok, but when you find out your pg, start distancing yourself. Try teaching them that their time is in the evening so they get used to being ignored thru day, maybe only walk once a day if you have a garden etc but definately distance yourself a little bit

Ses15 · 14/06/2008 22:35

Thanks! I'd heard about the blanket thing but the doll idea is a really good one too. I'll bear it in mind when the time comes!

littleboyblue · 16/06/2008 15:29

OMG! Had a scan today and it is a new pregnancy. About 5/6 weeks. I m/c just over 6 weeks ago so happened so fast! We so pleased.
This is now my 5th pg, have 1 child and 3 m/c so fingers crossed everything stays ok this time

Ses15 · 16/06/2008 15:50

Fantastic news LBB! CONGRATULATIONS!! I really hope everything works out well. Bet you're glad you had that scan!

littleboyblue · 16/06/2008 15:52

Thanx Ses, I am glad I pushed to get it early, it such a relief to know what's happening!
I must have conceived literally the day after I m/c though! How mad.
So, here's proof that you can all get preg again if you're ready to try again.
Goodluck to all of you. X

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/06/2008 17:51

Thank you charliesmum22.
I was a bit nervous about posting news on here but then thought I'd want to know if it was someone else you know? This whole thread has been fantastic for me this past week or so.

My happy thought today: I've just bought the Cold Play album and I've been playing it loud in the car on the way back from preschool. DH doesn't like it though 'sounds the same as the last one' was his comment. He just doesn't know quality sad droany men music when he hears it!

Congrats LBB. Gr8 news!! Me and my hubby are planning on trying again very soon too!!

Just a wee question (a very nosey one). How old is everyone? Hope that doesn't sound too rude! I'm 30, had my son at 27 (felt way too young), guess I'm worrying now that I'm too old. Big concern is, what if this keeps happening to me and then I get to an age where conception is so much harder!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/06/2008 12:46

I'm 36 1/2. I've had my first at 31, second at 34. I'm not worried yet about my age. I know plenty of people who have had babies older than me. Apparently your 'reproductive' age isn't necessarily the same as your real age. I don't know how you find out this though!

I'm 35 and don't have any DC. Only found my Mr Right 3 years ago, got married 2 years ago and then had to wait 18 months before effects of depo contraceptive injection fully wore off before ttc.

I do sometimes worry that I've left it too long for my lovely large family but after the events of the last couple of months would be happy to have just one happy, healthy dc!

Becky - you're so right. There are loads of people out there that conceive into their 40s so we really shouldn't worry.

tm1978 · 17/06/2008 13:14

Think I just worry too much! My mum starting getting a lot of troubles with her female bits in her early 30's and ended up with a hystorectomy at 35. Just worried in case its in the genes. However, the only bother I've had down there has been a section and an ERPC both of which means that I can fall pregnant.

ChocolateEclair · 17/06/2008 13:43

Hi ladies - wondering if there is anyone around with a happy thought or two who might share with me? Not having the best few days, but hoping to avoid a d&c next week.

Feel a bit ridiculous - sat on sofa with hot water bottle stuck in my jeans while eating wine gums and chocolate!....does this count as happy or just plain weird????
