Recurrent miscarriage testing - 1st app

Hey 😁

In short, 4 pregnancies, 4 losses. Ds (living) was the result of 3rd pregnancy but as he was a twin, my GP has classed that as a loss too.

2 losses from CP
2 losses after seeing heartbeat.

Im lucky that i have managed to get a cancellation for friday after waiting only 3 weeks.

What should i expect from my 1st appointment?

Im also lucky in the fact that my local hospital and clinic where im receiving treatment is where Prof.Quenby is based.

Not sure how relevant that is mind as my app is on the gynae ward.
I have a few questions if anyone could answer?

Would i be eligible for Kryotyping on NHS?
As ive had a child, would i even need it?
I know they test for blood clotting and thyroid, but what else will the test for?

I do wonder if i would see Prof. Quenby as an NHS patient. My bet is i wouldnt. I have a very vague memory of having a chat with her way before i had DS but i could be wrong.

Any advice would be handy. I have a tendency of having high expectations so i want to go in there, kinda knowing what im going to get out of it.

(Ps, i know there is a 50% chance i wont get anything out of it)

Thanks in advance

@Daffodil21 I'm sure you look fine! Although I have puffed up too but I'm thinking it is the food and drink from over Christmas catching up with me! Ooops!!

Do you think heated blankets and hot water bottles are ok to use? I've been using them every night but read different views! Xx

Daffodil21 · 05/01/2021 17:45

@HalGem99 I have no idea I'm afraid. I won't even have a bath because I'm too scared so I'm probably not the best person to ask!

HalGem99 · 05/01/2021 18:10

@Daffodil21 I feel like I should be more careful but I was so strict and careful the last two times and it didn't end well so this time I just think do what I want then if it happens again I haven't 'wasted' however many months! Not the way to look at it I know but can't help the way I feel xx

Daffodil21 · 05/01/2021 18:18

@HalGem99 actually I have felt the same sometimes. I ate Parma ham because I really wanted it over Christmas and thought f* it, being careful made no difference before. Then I read about the risk of listeria harming a baby but not the mother so I've been cooking it ever since! I know I'm being silly about the bath thing, but I know I wouldn't even enjoy one now because I'd be too paranoid so what's the point 😂

Hi everyone

I hope you don't mind me posting here. I am being referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic. I have just had my 4th miscarriage, 3rd in a row. How long did your Referral take? X

HalGem99 · 07/01/2021 17:25

@krj2688 I'm sorry that you find yourself here!

The referral wait time was just over 8 weeks for me. Xx

krj2688 · 07/01/2021 17:28

@HalGem99

Thank you! Ok, 8 weeks Isn't too horrendous. I have been told some places are 9-12months (hopefully not).

X

HalGem99 · 07/01/2021 17:28

@Daffodil21 are you experiencing any cramping? Xx

Daffodil21 · 07/01/2021 17:44

@krj2688 I'm still waiting following a mc on 5th November. I've had my letter saying I'm on the waiting list but haven't heard anything else. I'm currently pregnant again though so I guess it's ok to be on the waiting list while we see what happens... sorry you find yourself here.

@HalGem99 I haven't had cramping as such, but I do keep getting some sort of pain. I don't really know how to describe it, it's only brief and I don't need to take painkillers for it, it sort of (hopefully) feels like stretching? I've been having it for weeks, and have had a healthy scan since so I'm trying to put it to the back of my mind... how about you? X

HalGem99 · 07/01/2021 18:09

@Daffodil21 yes it's a sort of stretching feeling but I have it everyday! 5 weeks today so just need to take it a day at a time! Xx

HalGem99 · 08/01/2021 11:10

@Daffodil21 I've got my first scan on 22nd January which will make me 7+1 so if it's ok then that would be the furthest I have got as well! Fingers crossed! Xx

glowingtwig · 08/01/2021 14:41

Hi ladies,

Does anyone have any recommendations for recurrent miscarriage clinics in the South East? London/Cambridgeshire area?

The clinic that my GP referred me to I finally plucked up the courage to email today but they actually only deal with ivf, not recurrent mc.

I feel a bit thrown and Google has so many options it's hard to know which ones are gimicky (if you know what I mean?)

I did email Imperial Private Healthcare which I think is linked to Imperial College based at Hammersmith/St Mary's. Has anyone heard of that/had any experience with them? X

HalGem99 · 08/01/2021 15:22

@glowingtwig sorry I am from Coventry so I can't help. I'm sure some of the girls can though. Good luck xx

Daffodil21 · 08/01/2021 15:35

@HalGem99 fingers crossed - let us know!

@glowingtwig I was just about to go with Dr Sheheta at CRP clinic (then I found out I was pregnant again). I think he's based in Epsom. I've read lots of good things about him on here

GreenGecko36 · 08/01/2021 16:20

@Daffodil21 and @HalGem99 Glad to hear things are going well so far for you both!

@krj2688 So sorry you're in this boat with us, hope you're doing ok. My third mc was 26th November and haven't had a letter yet, but the EPU nurse told me the clinic had been closed since March and still hasn't reopened... We've made an appointment at a private clinic as we're just not prepared to wait that however long it turns out to be.

Update on my story: had 9 blood samples taken on 24/12 and the GP called yesterday. Anti-cardiolipin was very high (45 when normal would be ~20) so she's contacted Haematology to follow up - my big hope is that in my case it could be as simple as aspirin if/when I next get a bfp.
So happy I've found a brilliant GP!
I'm properly making the most of the NHS just now though - I've also been urgently referred to the breast clinic as I found a big lump.... desperately hope it's just a hormonal thing after the turmoil of last year...

HalGem99 · 08/01/2021 16:48

@GreenGecko36 that sounds positive that you may have found a reason for the miscarriages!!!

Sorry to hear about the lump, I really hope it isn't anything serious!!! Do keep us updated xx

HalGem99 · 13/01/2021 07:35

I hope you ladies are all getting on ok and keeping safe!

Before I went to bed last night I went to the loo and had a tiny spec of pink mucus which happened twice when I wiped and I mean a tiny bit but I've also had a dull ache, period like pain which seems to have stopped now. Obviously really anxious but just going to carry on taking the progesterone and go to my scan next Friday and hope for the best!

Do you think the progesterone could have caused the pink mucus from irritation? Xx

Daffodil21 · 13/01/2021 08:21

@HalGem99 absolutely could be caused by the progesterone. I had this too. The consultant also said that my red bleed before Christmas which required a pad could be due to the progesterone. Fingers crossed for your scan, keep us updated

@GreenGecko36 sorry to hear about your lump, hopefully it's nothin to worry about but glad you're getting it checked. Have you heard anything back about it yet?

HalGem99 · 13/01/2021 09:50

@Daffodil21 how long did you have the pink mucus for? I'm so scared to go to the toilet today as I'm at work so not ideal.

Anyway, how are you getting on? Xx

Daffodil21 · 13/01/2021 09:59

I can't actually remember to be honest, I've had so much blood during various pregnancies it's hard to keep track! I think it was just once or twice then it stopped for a week, maybe more. Then I had a red bleed in my underwear and I needed a pad for the rest of that evening and the following morning, then it suddenly stopped. I had a scan about 10 days later, and again on the Sunday just gone and everything looks ok. I still have no idea what caused it, but cyclogest was mentioned.

I'm ok thank you. Somehow 9+4 today and have my first midwife app later today, never made it to this point before!

HalGem99 · 13/01/2021 15:24

@Daffodil21 wow I've got everything crossed for you! Keep doing what you are doing! Xx

Daffodil21 · 15/01/2021 15:58

Thanks @HalGem99 I've got my next scan on Wednesday and absolutely dreading it already. How are you doing?

HalGem99 · 15/01/2021 16:04

@Daffodil21 you've done great so far so keep going! Let me know how you get on!

Mines next Friday and I'm so worried but can't change anything! I'm ok, although the last couple of days I've felt sick on and off all day then last night, I woke up at 2am so hungry that I was dry heaving but couldn't face eating so lay in bed nibbling a bloody biscuit! Was awful! I came home from work this morning as felt so sick! Hoping these are all good signs though but with my last missed miscarriage I was still experiencing symptoms. Trying to stay positive but finding it hard as can't help but keep thinking that the progesterone is masking any bleeding. Hurry up Friday!! Xx

Daffodil21 · 15/01/2021 16:27

@HalGem99 it really is horrible isn't it. I feel like I'm just living scan to scan, but dreading them so much too. The relief from my two scans last a few days and then it disappeared and I'm wondering if we're still going or not. I haven't had any bleeding but I'm just so worried about a MMC. As you say nothing we can do but wait.

Midwife app went ok yesterday. They kept saying things like 'when you give birth' and 'when the baby is here' etc, and even noted me down as 'mother' in the notes. It just all feel completely alien to me because I honestly can't see how this pregnancy will end in a birth when none of the others did. But then I have to remind myself that we are now 3 weeks further than we have ever been, and I started the meds earlier this time than I did before.

The progesterone won't necessarily mask bleeding. I was on it for my last pregnancy and I still bled, so I hope that's a comfort to you!

Sorry to hear about your sickness! It sounds horrible! I don't have any, which I have to say has concerned me. My friend told me she never had any sickness with her daughter, so I'm allowing myself to find reassurance in that at least.

How far along are you now?

HalGem99 · 15/01/2021 16:37

@Daffodil21 how often are you having scans? After my first one on Friday, I want them as often as they will let me for reassurance because like you I will be living scan to scan!

I'm 6 +1 today so if the scan next Friday is ok, it will be the furthest I have got as well which will give me some comfort. Was your partner allowed to your scans? I've been told I need to attend alone so he will be waiting in the car again! Lol

I know a lot of people that had no sickness so don't worry about that at all, just class yourself as lucky! xx
