total headwreck, empty sac 11 days ago, embryo 6wk there today...

It was very hard to put this into a title but basically I had a dating scan 11 days ago when i reckoned i ought to have been 9 weeks pg. In the scan there was an empty embryonic sac measuring 7 wks but no yolk or fetal pole. The sonographer said it was most likely a miscarriage but that I would need to come back in 10 days to see if there was any growth during that time as a protocol.

I have spent the past 11 days in total turmoil and limbo. Waiting any moment to miscarry etc.

Went back today for the second scan expecting to be taken in this week for a d&c only to find that the sac had grown in the 10 days and there was now a yolk, fetal pole and an embryo measuring just 6 weeks. No heartbeat but she said heartbeat would kick in, if it was going to, over the next 7 days. SO basically she could not confirm that it was a miscarriage at this stage but that we would need to go back this day next week to see if there is a heartbeat. If not it will be confirmed then.

She was fairly certain that there was a problem with the development of this pregnancy and that the most likely scenario would be that it would develop this far and trail off and we would not find a heartbeat on Monday.

I just can't get my head around it all. Even if my dates were out a bit, I didn't think it was possible to be out that much.

Has anyone else ever gone through this?

I feel like my head is about to explode trying to take it all in / work it all out and another 7 days waiting stretches out in front of me..........

Ginger I was thinking of you today and hoping that you are keeping well and that once you have your midwife visit you can start to enjoy this a little bit. I know after all the happened the innocence of early pregnancy is shattered but, for now, YOU ARE PREGNANT Grin x

thank you so much super

speaking to the dr has relaxed me a bit today and i kp telling myself i can get pregnant and i know from last time i can carry baby quite well so there was obv jus something wrong and it was probably a good thing it ended. so chances r this little being inside of me is quite normal. ive managed to get pregnant and i will carry it gooooooddd like last time and thats all there is to it lol!

SuperGlue · 10/02/2015 23:12

gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2015 10:49

ha super the size of it i hope it is not its first outfit. friend and i were debating tiny baby or newborn and settled on newborn which looks fairly big to me Shock

SuperGlue · 11/02/2015 11:01

I think you need to get some tiny vests in tiny baby size - they are unbelievably cute. I bought one pack of them when I was pg with dd. I bought them early on and used to take them out and gawp at the size of them from time to time. Everyone told me I would need 0-3mths in stuff as I was getting my bag ready. That looked HUGE to me so I went against the advice & bought newborn. Then she was born and was only 6lbs and my mum had to make an emergency dash from the hospital to mothercare and buy some tiny baby stuff as she was swamped in the newborn. And the vests I had bought were perfect!

When I was having my first I looked at newborn size clothes and about fainted....no way was I giving birth to something that big! When he was born he was verging on too big for some of the newborn stuff at 8lb 10 and very chunky. I'm only 5ft tall lol.

gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2015 11:42

haha really? well my friend has two ds so i just took her advice but did look and think no chance.

i may just have to get a tiny baby something just so i can look at them.

i was discussing it with my mam who has 5dc all 6lb something born the other day saying i wont have a big one will i you didnt. her response 'u dont smoke'! very true. she was also in her late teens early twenties and a very slim im 30 and overweight.

SuperGlue · 11/02/2015 13:46

I don't know what determines the baby size really as I am tall (5ft 9") and slim, and dh is 6ft 2" and very slim and our dd was 6lb, born 5 days early. Neither of us smoke

I have a friend who had a 10lb baby girl and she herself is about 5ft 2" and average build and her dh is well under 6ft and not a big build either.

It's a mystery!

guess there is no rhyme and reason. at least newborn they will fit into at some point.

will buy a tiny baby something when im out of the woods ive had my little exciting were having a baby spend for now Smile

Imscarlet · 11/02/2015 14:03

When I was going to antenatal appointments for my DD they kept frowning and saying 'mm, think it's going to be a big one'. I was traumatised!! I went for a 4d scan at 35 weeks and they said about 7lbs. DD was 2 weeks overdue and came in at 6lbs 13. She is now quite tall for her age (even though I'm quite small). I don't think there is rhyme nor reason to it. My nephew was 10lbs 13, they are taking abou lt testing her for gestational diabetes next time though.

gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2015 14:26

you do often hear of them getting it wrong. guess wont know until they arrive. cnt believe after everything last year im back in a position where i might get my baby Grin

mrsb0710 · 11/02/2015 15:24

will get your baby :)
How are you feeling?

Day 1 of SMEP. DH has a day holiday the day I should ovulate, he has a job interview. I'm just happy he'll be home to give me some spermz :)

gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2015 15:28

today im not really feeling anything but it is not long since lunch. usually before eating i have felt a bit nauseous. boobs feel heavy and are starting to change and can feel lots of different pulling and tugging sensations in my tummy.

ive been emotional today. was crying to ed sheeran this morning then almost crying again when i spoke to council housing so all good symptoms i guess.

what is SMEP? After getting your sperm lie down as long as you can Grin

Imscarlet · 11/02/2015 19:25

I had forgotten about SMEP! Sperm meets egg plan. I can't remember the ins and outs (if you'll excuse the pun!) but loads of info online about it!! I had my appointment regarding the genetic testing of the products of conception.....which wasn't referenced at all. They said my bloods came back ok, I asked what they were testing for and they said it was to ensure that I was actually a woman (had all the correct female chromosomes). I was a bit Hmm I have to get a raft more blood tests which will check things like thyroid, blood clotting, Vit B12 levels etc. I've had most of them done before except the blood clotting. I asked them when I would get results and they said they would call me back in a few months, to which I was very Hmm and delighted that I'm going down the private route. I'm really only interested in the clotting results and I don't expect that to be a problem. I took my first round of medication yesterday and we are going away for a night when I'm due to ovulate so we'll see!

gingerbreadmam · 11/02/2015 20:40

oh ive never heard of it before.

well that all sounds like goodnwork moving forward.

the blood clot thing is that to test if you clot too fast? i had full blood count a drs last week following anaemia after mmc and they said really good dont know what they check for though?

mrsb0710 · 11/02/2015 21:37

SMEP - DTD every.other day, then for 3 days after + OPK.
Trying not to stress too much about it all, and fx sperm does meet egg!

Let us know how it all goes scarlet.

I've been over at the ttc thread, but love checking in with you ladies. Nice how we can chat about anything.

Imscarlet · 11/02/2015 21:42

Yeah, essentially it just means that you take baby asprin whilst pregnant to thin the blood. MrsB, sounds like we might be (does anyone say baby dancing anymore? BD?) DTD around the same time! Fingers crossed for us!

mrsb0710 · 11/02/2015 21:45

Haha. Baby dancing. I like that :)
When are you due to ov?
I should be due around mid next week ovia tells me. But I'll start OPKs Friday and see.
Just need to keep DH up to the task!

Imscarlet · 11/02/2015 22:10

I'm due to ovulate around the 20th! Baby dancing or BDing was a big thing a few years ago!!

gingerbreadmam · 12/02/2015 08:01

ooh good luck ladies!

my dp got v annoyed with me around ovulation as he thought i was trying to steal his sperm haha! now we are on a dtd ban just until 6 week milestone so i feel ive done everything i can.

i like the phrase baby dancing Grin

chubbymummy · 12/02/2015 22:39

gingerbreadmam · 13/02/2015 08:37

and i do anyway. i ache where i should be acheing and have blips of nausea not to mention being shattered.

i will kp updating. want to get next week out the way as in mmc baby stopped developing at 5+4 i think so will feel like a milestone at 6wks.

Imscarlet · 13/02/2015 15:14

Oh lord! Just saw something on Facebook saying Fifty Shades out this weekend, midwives book your annual leave now for 40 weeks time when the maternity wards will be BUSY!! Uh oh!!

mrsb0710 · 13/02/2015 15:20

Haha. If we get pregnant this cycle scarlet everyone will think its Valentines day/50 shades baby. Hmm

Imscarlet · 13/02/2015 15:28

I bloody know! It'll be 'knowing looks' from all sides!!!
