Not so imaginative as lunatic !

Part One HERE

Part Two HERE

There are a mixture of Pg ladies, new BFP's (YAY) and new ladies who have sadly had to join us and are going through testing. Lots of OMW's and hand holding here!

Sit down, grab a cushion and a hot choc and get comfortable.

Hi - I'm ok thanks for asking after me.
Was up at hospital today being taught about clexane, but have come away feeling confused.
Consultant had prescribed 40mg/ml once a day - plus 75mg aspirin once a day.
Practice nurse who taught me felt this wasn't within guidelines and called haematologist who has recommended clexane 2x daily.
But I feel like those guidelines are for pregnant women who have suffered a clot - I haven't, it's just for prevention of MC related to this increased clotting risk with Factor V Leiden.
I am a lard-arse Blush so maybe they need to increase dose because of my weight but it still feels odd.
PLUS, I had to do my first injection there and have just looked and I have a big bruise where I did it (it didn't hurt), if I have to do it 2x a day I'm going to run out of clear sites quickly, unless the bruising is just lack of practice? Any tips from those who have done this?

I think I might leave a message for consultant to let him know what's going on.
Sorry for just update on me.

MummyAbroad · 19/01/2011 22:58

Hi ladyB oh how disconcerting to have the nurse doubting everything! Just when you want to feel reassured that the plan is in place! I would absolutely ring cons and ask for confirmation, otherwise her words will keep ringing in your ears. You can never ask too few questions in my view.

I had to give myself antibiotics via injection twice a day for three days (long story but it was an emergency and there was no doc around to do it). It wasnt for as long as you are about to do, but yes, I got better with practice. Sometimes I bruised and sometimes I didnt. I had to do it in my upper thigh (is that the same for you?) and found that there were about 3 or 4 spots on each leg, so I didnt "run" out of space as it were. I think I remember being told that bruising is where you hit a blood capiliary, its not a problem but you arent then supposed to inject into this area until healed. I dont think there is a way of knowing how to avoid hitting capliaries though, its just random? Good that it didnt hurt you (some of mine did, I think that is about getting the angle right) - sounds like you are a pro already Grin

Julezboo · 19/01/2011 23:21

ladyb 40mg clexane twice a day seems like a lot? I would deffinately query that with your cons. I have Factor V Leiden and was on 20mg clexane once a day. I suffered a stroke after 1st birth. Bruising gets less and less as you get used to doing the injections. Some days it will hurt, but most days it wont. :)

I am still on 40mg clexame once a day now for 6 weeks. Easier now I have the flabby tummy to inject it into.

Glittery Yay for 12 weeks!

Short post from me. Wanted to answer Ladyb's questions.

We were sent back to postnatal ward today, Oliver had dropped right down to 6lbs 3 :( He had blood tests done, no sign of dehydration, jaundice levels are high, but not high enough to require treatment and he seems to have found him feeding routine and now screams the place down right on queue every 4 hours lol! They were happy with him so we got home around 7pm. It's been a long day. My stitches are hurting because I keep catching the string when i pull my knickers up lol and I guess bcause Ive been up and about too much today.

Will b back tomorrow to post more x

Hi all,

A quick post to let you know that I am doing OK and that I think the MC will complete today. Baiscally losing blood and woke up with cramps - waiting for contractions to start so looks likely I can avoid EPU tomorrow.

Mummy thanks for your post about embryo testing - that makes me feel like I've done all I could and am not missing an opportunity.

The reason why I am obsessing so much is that from what I've read I get the impression this test is quite common in the US but unfortunately not so in the UK and I believe it would really help me. I have also read that a test to do embryo karyotyping which requires DNA extraction, not cell culture (so it doesn't need to be fresh tissue) is also possible through something called comparative genomic hybridization - not even Dr Google could help me understand what this is!

The irony is that I work for an R&D company that has a genetics lab (I'm not a medical or scientific person - I work in Admin.) which is about 200yards from my office. However, no matter how desperate I get I cannot face walking in there with my sterile container and asking them to "run a couple of tests" on my miscarriage to see if the chromosomes are normal.

Question has anyone had the test to detect levels of natural killer cells? If so, what does it involve - is it a simple blood test or a biopsy from your uterus lining?

Coconuts just to say I haven't forgotten about TCOYF book, I'm at home tomorrow so will dig it and PM you for address and get it in post!

banana87 · 20/01/2011 11:05

Wow, lots to catch up on!

Panda Hope everything is moving as it should and you get the all clear from the EPU tomorrow :(

Glitterybits Great to hear from you. You poor thing, it's no wonder you are on the brink. Hope next week comes quickly and with some reassurance.

Ladybee Glad you are well. I agree with the others that you are better asking your consultant about the dosage. The nurse really shouldn't have said anything!

Lunatic I thought the psychologist might say that (being one myself!)...the midwives need to give you a break. It's common sense really, after what you have been through, to react the way you are.

Julez Glad you are home and little Oliver is feeding well. Fx for a good weight gain!

Coconuts I think I missed your moving announcement! Why are you moving? When we got booted out of our last place (rented), I was constantly on findaproperty, and they were emailing me updates constantly, every time a new property came on. I also called all the estate agents and registered. We had our new place in a matter of days :) It's sooo stressful though, I do not envy you!

Mummy No, I am home now from the US. I miss it though :(

Crystal Have you tested again?

Hairyfairy How are you feeling??

Waves to everyone I missed.

I think I am going to see my GP today. I am really really tired, all the time. I get 12+ hours of sleep per night and still cannot open my eyes or get focused in the day. I can't think straight and it's affecting my work and DD. I am also getting migranes every other day, which is not right at all. I feel so physically exhausted its unreal. We also DTD yesterday with no protection. I am not ready to be pregnant, and really want to wait one more cycle. Thankfully I am not ov yet.

Hi all, Im new here, and I'm not sure where to post!!

I had 1 mmc at 13 weeks (baby was lost around 6 weeks) then I had my dd and then 3 years later DS.
Became pregnant in 2009 with preg number 4 and I miscarried at 12 weeks (very traumatic as it was a 'natural' mc and I was in hospital)
Started ttcing and in Sept 2009 got pregnant but that ended in an ectopic pregnancy (again v traumatic as I was quite ill and in hosp for over a month).

Anyway we are now ttcing again and I'm just looking to say hi and chat with other mums.

I did used to go on Bounty but its gone a bit boring over there so I have been lurking over here and found it a lot more fun than other places!!

coconuts yeah im diong better today i spent all day googleing and found that alot of people get put on it even if they cant find a problem it comes out of your system within 12 hours just worrying about tomorrow and hope they find a baby im dreading going in there and that screen showing nothing its enough to make me vomit :(plus my appoitment isnt till half 4-5 i mean thats all day worrying xxxx

LAF77 · 20/01/2011 12:27

coconuts I don't know how I can get through the days. I work full time in a mostly male environment, so I'm surrounded by testosterone, I guess. One of my colleagues likened a situation at work to "aborting the embryo" yesterday which made me physically recoil. I had a cry last night when I made a note in my fertility diary that I started spotting. The soft toys that I had for baby 1 and baby 3 were there, sitting together. It is making me well up thinking about them now.

So, here I am, LAF77, 33, MC1 (7 weeks Apr 10) MC2 (5 weeks Sept 10) MC3 (9 weeks Dec 10). All have been natural mcs and number 1 and 3 were embryonic for sure. No children, no RMC appt, no diagnosis and not TTC.

LAF have you heard anything about getting your gynae appointment brought forward? And in what context did your colleague say that? :( What awful things people say without engaging their brains.

lunatic I'm glad the mw's have now decided you're not a lunatic :o but have justifiable concerns after DD2. I hope that the day doesn't drag for you too much, what do you have with you to pass the time?
