Have just ordered these. Do they look okay?

I use this when I can't get the Batefoot Nutrition ones I've linked above (which are actually slightly cheaper) and they've been fine.

ImAvingOops · 06/02/2023 21:52

Thank you @HundredMilesAnHour

Thanks very much, @HundredMilesAnHour - as you can see from the time I'm posting (3.45am) I need to try this!

Good luck @bluecrayola I really hope it helps! And we don't see anymore middle of the night posts.😘

@HundredMilesAnHour I've bought the Dream Sleep, the dosage says 4 capsules, do you take the full 4? Thanks Smile

Yes, I take all 4. Enjoy!

(I was a terrible sleeper even before menopause struck - it pretty much takes the equivalent of elephant tranquilliser to get me to sleep, apparently it's a symptom of my recently diagnosed ADHD - so Dream Sleep is the holy grail for me).

vjg13 · 07/02/2023 16:45

Thanks @HundredMilesAnHour. I have always been a terrible sleeper too!

Next to my bed I've got melatonin, Dream Sleep and Phenergan!

RaininginDarling · 07/02/2023 16:48

Interested to read this thread. I take an oxy-magnesium supplement at night, which, err...keeps me regular 😆

I wonder if I'm also getting some of the other benefits mentioned here as I am no longer tortured by meno-restless legs.

@vjg13 It's awful, isn't it? How I envy those people who sleep well! I think some women only find out at menopause what it's like to be a bad sleeper, and some people never find out (lucky sods!)

I've tried so many things over the years. When I (occasionally) find something that works, my body seems to adjust to it and it stops working. So I constantly have to rotate things. The only things that consistently help me are magnesium combined with L-Trytophan (magnesium on its own doesn't do anything for my sleep) which is why Dream Sleep works for me and the anti-histamine diphenhydramine (a.k.a. American Benadryl).

I'm just joining in whilst I look for the equivalent in France.

Fingers crossed for you @AlisonDonut Following the great advice on here from @HundredMilesAnHour I am now into the second week of sleeping through most nights on magnesium glycinate (after debilitating insomnia which HRT could not fix). Haven't tried the malate yet, so would be interested to know how you get on x

AlisonDonut · 10/02/2023 20:43

Well, I've been zingy all day. As in loads of energy. I suspect it's just a one off as the weather has been lovely and sunny today, so no idea if it is related.

wednesdaynamesep · 10/02/2023 21:20

@HundredMilesAnHour I've just stumbled across this too and am really hoping it helps me out. I have the barefoot nutrition magnesium glycinate in my Amazon basket. Which brand do you take of the magnesium Malate?

Also, I noticed the magnesium glycinate is in 560mg capsules. Upthread I think you said you take 200 in the morning and 200 in the evening. How do you manage to split the capsule.

Also, do you have any advice on vit D? My SIL says it has been amazing for her but I don't know where to start.

lupinlass · 10/02/2023 21:35

For Vit D join the Vitamin D Wellness FB group. It explains it all and provides a protocol to bring levels up

Dammit, I just wrote a really long reply to this and must not have hit Post grrr. That's the second time this evening. You can tell it's been a long week.

I'd start off taking 1 Barefoot in the morning and 3 in the evening and see how you feel. You may be able to split it as 2 and 2 but it depends if it makes you sleepy in the morning. It it does, take 200mg of malate in the morning and 2-3 capsules of Barefoot in the evening. You need to be taking 400-500mg of elemental magnesium daily and 4 capsules of Barefoot is 448mg. The malate I use is BioCare.

I've been taking vit D (2000-5000iu daily, it varies depending on how I feel and how much daylight I get) for a decade and my levels are 'optimal' now. I take Life Extension D3 plus Life Extension Super K as vit K really improves the absorption of vit D. Boron (3-6mg) also helps.

All available on Amazon. I feel like a dodgy supplement dealer 😂

Thank you. I'll do that.

@HundredMilesAnHour Biocare ...thank you. I'm still confused on the Barefoot, and I'm sure it's me being foggy. The image I've attached is the Barefoot I found, and the bottle says 560MG per capsule. Wouldn't 4 capsules be too much?

You want to be taking 400mg per day of elemental magnesium. Most supplement companies only disclose the amount of powder in the capsule. This is not the amount of elemental magnesium. A good supplement company will tell you how much elemental magnesium each capsule contains. For Barefoot that's 112mg. It says on the back of the bottle.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/02/2023 23:17

Also stated clearly on Barefoot's website:

Hope that helps make it clearer @wednesdaynamesep 😀

@wednesdaynamesep No worries. It's not very clear and I think the majority of people supplementing magnesium don't realise it needs to be elemental magnesium to really get the benefits.

I was just looking at Barefoot's website and they have quite a good combined vit D and magnesium supplement that has some really useful info at the bottom of the page that might help answer some of your questions (and reassure you that I'm not a crazy person on the internet making things up lol)

Do these look ok for Magnesium Glyconate
Seems a very good price

I wouldn't buy these. They have fillers and don't say how much elemental magnesium they contain. At that price, probably not much.
