Thanks @HundredMilesAnHour I wasn't sure if active magnesium was the same as elemental. Will keep looking!

ImAvingOops · 12/02/2023 09:04

Just to add to the vitamin d stuff, that you must take it with vitamin k, so that you don't build up calcium deposits in places where you don't want calcium!

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 18/02/2023 20:35

Just brought some malate and glycinate. How long does it take to have an impact?

AlisonDonut · 19/02/2023 09:11

Well, since I started mine a week ago...

I've been up and about 2 hours earlier than usual.

I've felt that I've had more sleep

I've done more steps each day without feeling like I did more steps every day.

My pain that I've had for 9 years now, has definitely subsided.

My hand/wrist/thumb pain hasn't though.

I am also off sugar to try and see if that was triggering my pain that I've had for 9 years so it could be that, we shall see if it comes back as we are out for lunch tomorrow and will be having pudding.

Bimblesalong · 19/02/2023 09:21

Following with interest and have just ordered the barefoot magnesium.

Runaround50 · 19/02/2023 09:22

Hi
Can I join the magnesium party please? Another poor menopausal sleeper here, in need of a remedy!

How big are the Barefoot magnesium capsules? When do you all take your magnesium, before bed?

Thanks 😊

AlisonDonut · 24/02/2023 20:54

I take the malate at breakfast and the gly at 9pm.

Update is I've been waking up even earlier and the pain is still much reduced. So all good still.

picklemewalnuts · 24/02/2023 21:00

Oh right! I've missed this. Please god it woks for me too!

AlisonDonut · 24/02/2023 21:03

I've been sleeping like a log, waking up earlier and being full of beans. Not waking up earlier unable to sleep!

As I have to wait to see a specialist as well as mood swings/tiredness I've also been getting hot flushes and terrible sweatiness been looking at sage supplements but can I take these alongside hrt anyone else tried them thanks

It sounds like your dosage is too low. For reference although everyone is different. I use Evorel100 and Evorel25 together as well as testosterone and utrogesten daily. A friend of mine is on Evorel 200.

Joanne73460 · 24/02/2023 22:14

I'm waiting for my GP to get back to me as his referral for me to see a menopause specialist was rejected and I can't afford to go private but I did say I thought my dosage was too low I'm on everol 50 didn't realize it went as high as 200 cos my GP was concerned if I upped my dosage too quickly over a short period of time I could have complications later in life as he said he can only prescribe hrt for 5 years I really don't believe my symptoms would have disappeared in 5 years and surely if hormone are low now and I do go on higher dosage then it would work the opposite and I might only need a lower dose later in life or am I being stupid I just feel I do the research and have to ask for or explain it to the GP and they have no knowledge at all it's really impacting my every day life I had to give up my voluntary job as I have no energy no motivation don't want to get out of bed each day and generally feel useless and pathetic my DH has been amazing which makes me feel worse as I feel like a rubbish wife right now

Your gp is wrong. NHS can prescribe up to 100 and there in no reason to come off HRT after 5 years. Can remain on HRT forever if you are suited to it.
Private and Meno clinics can prescribe higher.

Great news! Congratulations!

It is, unusually have to drag myself up and now, 3 hours earlier I'm up, with dressing gown over proper clothes before dawn and the kittens are like 'WTF is happening???'

I’ve been reading a lot on magnesium, and the recommended dose is 500mg.
I take L-Threonate and it has definitely helped my meno brain and sleep.

500mg is way too much per dose! Hence why Holland & Barratt & Boots don't sell any which go up to 500.

No it isn't. And I wouldn't be buying the watered down stuff H&B and Boots sell as their own brand either.

The daily recommendation of 500mg of magnesium per day for menopausal women is ELEMENTAL magnesium. Depending on the quality, 500mg of a magnesium supplement may only provide up to 300mg of elemental magnesium. And that's a good quality supplement. The cheaper supplements are full of bulking agents/anti-caking powder so you'll be getting a lot less elemental magnesium.

HelloVeritas · 25/02/2023 08:23

I take Mag Enhance from Intelligent Labs, just one before bed so a bottle lasts 3 months.

It has transformed my sleep, after years of insomnia. Also knocked some of the anxiety and morning jitters on the head.

Annoyed I didn't discover it sooner!

twitterexile · 25/02/2023 08:47

Mag Enhance looks like a great supplement. Another one for me to try!

Curlyhairedbrummie · 25/02/2023 09:23

I must say @HuHundredMilesAnHour your advice has been excellent! Thank you! I started using biocare malate x3 in the morning which gives 117mg of elemental magnesium. Also using best immune glycinate at night x3 tablets which gives 300mg of elemental-one more than it says on the label😬 I have seen an improvement already in sleep and motivation/energy during the day but it is still early days and I feel there is still some room for improvement-but maybe my expectations are too high!
I was thinking of increasing one of these or introducing another form of mag as I'm not taking 500mg yet 🤔

PamDooove · 25/02/2023 10:03

Hi, so which magnesium is better? The L-threonate or the combination of glycinate and malate?

LightSpeeds · 25/02/2023 18:12

I've just bought some and will start it tonight...

Cosmetichamster · 25/02/2023 18:22

Just to update: following the advice on here I started taking magnesium glycinate in the evening, and malate in the morning. The combo totals 450 mg of elemental magnesium. I have gone from debilitating insomnia to someone who sleeps through most nights, getting about 6-7 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Some of it must be deep sleep, because despite waking early I feel ok (dare I say, sometimes even rested). I also have more energy during the day. Hard to tell whether that's due to simply finally sleeping, or whether the malate also helps. Either way, it's made a massive difference, a difference HRT could not make despite fixing many other issues. Oh and unlike other forms of magnesium, this combination has not caused any gut issues. In short: if you are on the fence about this, it's definitely worth a try!

HundredMilesAnHour · 25/02/2023 19:23

Really pleased it's helping you @Cosmetichamster and @Curlyhairedbrummie. I was just the same and it felt like I had been living in the dark for ever and then someone suddenly switched the light on. Wow, what a difference! I still tend to think 'is this how normal people sleep? how amazing they must feel all the time!'

PamDooove · 25/02/2023 19:31

So the malate plus glycinate is the way to go then?

EqualFranknessWithYourLadyship · 25/02/2023 19:37

Grrr, I have been taking this (magnesium citrate, got it from Holland and Barrett) and thinking I had irritable bowel syndrome!!!
