Two week period- and going!

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

I am 53. I have had flooding periods since maybe the age of 45. I was on the heavy side before that.

Topseyt · 22/01/2020 20:39

And it seems to be ramping up again here tonight. Bollocks!!

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 20:42

How long now @Topseyt?

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 22/01/2020 20:56

@Topseyt 😮
That's a long time to have gone through this.

Thanks @madamepewter im on tenterhooks though!

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 21:08

It’s not relaxing, is it, @TheYearOfTheDog?!

I've definitely come on again. Just over a week since the last one finished as well. I've got period pain and am generally feeling pretty fed up now. I've stupidly been googling too and my anxiety has shot right up. To top it all DH is being an unsympathetic git so I've gone to bed in a huff.

Topseyt · 22/01/2020 21:17

Since 7th December when the mirena coil was fitted during a hysteroscopy.

This is still supposed to be the settling in time, which can be several months. I honestly wish I had held out against the mirena and not bothered with it. A hysterectomy would at least have put an end to this once and for all once healed up.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 21:36

Oh @Divisuon

I feel your pain 😩 I’ve been bleeding since 9th Dec. 1 week of flooding but light ever since. I’ve started to dread going to the loo as i’m getting obsessed with it oh and not to mention paranoid that i smell !! It really is rubbish isn’t it !!

CointreauVersial · 22/01/2020 22:12

This all sounds very familiar....

I had increasingly heavy and irregular periods for several years (plus mood swings etc), culminating in a 30 day whopper when I was 46, which left me anaemic and exhausted. Luckily it was eventually controlled with tranexamic acid, and I was sent for an ultrasound, which revealed no fibroids, but very "shrivelled" ovaries, which indicated that menopause was pretty near. Blood tests backed this up. Indeed, I had one small period after that, then nothing, going through the menopause at 46. The relief was unbelieveable, like clouds lifting!

I can't suggest much because, in my case, nature took its course, but you all have my sympathy. No-one ever told us menopause was like this.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 22:19

@AnxiousAnnie01 that’s even longer than me! Pure rubbish

@CointreauVersial thanks... I’d probably take this if it meant thereafter dying off... will keep fingers crossed!!

I finally got referred to gynae when I made an emergency visit to the go as I bled heavily(normal) for 2 weeks. She took one look at me,signed me off work for 2 weeks and I got a referral.
3 hysteroscopis later and a Mirena(I finally gave in),I have had masses of polyps and some fibroids removed. There are still some there and if they cause more problems then an ablation.
I have only had 2significant bleeds since(last op in July).I'm feeling much better on hrt and with my iron levels back up.
The bad news,I am 59.Apart from pregnancy this is the first time I've had a break from regular periods.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 22:54

Sounds awful @TheHagOnTheHill,... did you ever get offered/consider hysterectomy?

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 22:55

I couldn’t go on like this for years

I've got my long awaited doc's appointment this afternoon. I have no idea what is going on with my body. I've been bleeding pink blood since Wednesday. First of all I thought it was another period (joy) but I'm not so sure now. I'm having niggly period type pain, enough to warrant an ibuprofen, and it is about the right time for me to be ovulating so maybe it's that. I do sometimes bleed a little in the middle of the month, but it only lasts a day, so this is a bit weird for me.

Veering between thinking it's probably just par for the course, to omg, I've got something awful. Hopefully the Dr may be able to offer some reassurance later.

MadamePewter · 24/01/2020 08:30

Good luck @DivisionBelles.

Don’t be fobbed off. Remember the power pose before going in!

My appointment is today too. I’ve also now got a gynaecology appointment through for three weeks time...maybe result of actually complaining? Good, cos it’s now day 42 😱

DivisionBelles · 24/01/2020 08:56

Thanks @MadamePewter, good luck to you to. Will be back with an update later.

Topseyt · 24/01/2020 13:52

Good luck to both of you. Hope today's appointments give you better service.

Still going here. Not sure I will make it through the recommended "settling" period for this stupid mirena coil. They said 6 - 9 months. I don't want to go that long like this. If I am bleeding every day then it seems self-defeating to me.

DivisionBelles · 24/01/2020 17:34

I'm back. Doc seemed really unconcerned, which I guess is reassuring. He's referring me for a scan. I had one around 4 years ago, all normal then. Had a feel of my stomach for fibroids - couldn't feel anything. I'm considering a Mirena, depending on the outcome of the scan. I just want things to become more predictable again, so will probably give it a go and see how I get on.

MadamePewter · 24/01/2020 18:21

That’s good, @DivisionBelles. Mirena does work for some.

I was prescribed northeristerone to try to stop the bleeding. GP also says she’ll try to chase up the scan so will happen before gynaecologist appointment.

She wasn’t hopeful of thinking Of something else to stop it if this doesn’t work. And told me if it was fibroids then they’ll go after menopause 😱 Only a few years to go then!!

She was much nicer than before though, but googling which I never like 😂

MadamePewter · 25/01/2020 18:18

I think it’s stopped it.......

AnxiousAnnie01 · 25/01/2020 18:48

@MadamePewter keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Verily1 · 26/01/2020 02:07

My last period lasted a month (with 3 days of ‘spotting’ in the middle)

I’m still
