I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

@DivisionBelles that’s great. I have to have a hysteroscopy and biopsy too but failed my pre med today because of my mental anxiety about medics and thus high blood pressure. 🙄 My heart rate was higher than when I’m
Running!! So big delay, totally traumatised but went gym class, now wine

Slightly reassured today. The hospital appointment booking people called and I've made my gynae appointment for 8th April although I do have to go to the big hospital in a city around 40 miles away. Anything nearer to home would be in May and the first available appointment was on my birthday. Can think of better things to do to celebrate than have my lady bits looked at! Guess this is good, as if it was serious they would have got me in sooner.

Scratchyback · 18/03/2020 17:16

Waaahhhhh! Can I join in please? No period for 5 months, now I’m having a (so far) 9 day crime scene Shock No sign of it stopping ... changing super-de-duper tampon and towel every 2 hours or I’m flooding through. Taking iron, drained, dizzy , completely pissed off Angry FFS

DivisionBelles · 18/03/2020 21:00

Welcome to the gang @Scratchyback

It's not the best of gangs to be in, but we can all swap experiences and offer support through the hell of menopause.

Scratchyback · 18/03/2020 21:30

Aw ta @DivisionBelles Smile It’s makes me feel much better reading this thread and knowing I’m not alone. Grin I’ve run the gauntlet of flooding, short and long cycles, sweats, tears yada yada yada like all you other ladies. It’s madness isn’t it!! Now today I’ve been prescribed Cyklokapron/Tranexamic acid for the flooding. Because of the current Coronavirus situation I had to have a phone consultation with the doc so it was very hurried (perfectly understandable as the doctors are so busy atm). I was given 12 days worth I think - anyone any experience of how long it would take for them to work? And once they do, should I keep taking them or only use when the bleeding is bad? I feel a bit stupid asking internet strangers Confused but I didn’t have much of a conversation with the doc and the pharmacy was not letting people up to the counter so I couldn’t ask the pharmacist either!!! And I have meno-brain too Sad so my thinking is impaired Grin

DivisionBelles · 18/03/2020 22:22

I've had tranexamic acid in the past but it didn't really do anything for me. From memory, I think you take it a couple of days before your period starts and then for up to four days, but I may be wrong. Difficult to know when to start it though of your periods are all over the shop!

TheYearOfTheDog · 18/03/2020 22:58

The cyclakapron worked for me, fairly immediately really. Dried up my crime scene period! Ha ha that is funny.

Then the next month i got another period and it flooded too. I had to take a tablet every 5 hours (they recommend every 6 hours) but i was thinking oooooooh nooooooo at work.

Im on Azalia back to back progesterone only pill now thank goodness as i could not handle those crime scene periods!

Scratchyback · 19/03/2020 07:47

Well hip hip fecking hurray! Think the Cyclakapron did the job overnight Hmm It’s certainly stopped for the moment. Do you mind me asking @TheYearOfTheDog, did you keep taking it to stop it restarting or only take it again on the next bad period? Once it worked for you, did the bleeding come back? Not sure whether I’m in the eye of the storm here Confused And where the hell has all that blood gone? Is it poised there waiting for me to sit on my friend’s cream couch???

TheYearOfTheDog · 19/03/2020 20:16

Well i took one every six hours until i was certain period at ended.

WEIRDLY, even though i am taking Azalia progesterone only back to back, on day 3 or 4 of the second 31 day back, i seem to have a period. It is light but still. At first i though it was just a bit of bleeding but it is definitely a period as i feel a bit sluggish down there. So. I am on the back-to-back pill and I am still having a period 😖 🤔

Scratchyback · 19/03/2020 20:28

Thanks for the info @TheYearOfTheDog - hope it all settles down soon with your pill. Very frustrating all this menopause lark, it’s going to be lovely to get to the other side of it all. I think some of us are just old bleeders - I’m from a whole family of ‘em Grin Equally I have one friend who did not have one symptom!!! Not one! Sailed through her whole menopause without even noticing. It’s hard to imagine that when it’s such a hoo-hah for others Confused

MadamePewter · 28/03/2020 22:19

Hi all and hope everyone is ok?

I’ve been anxious anyway this week and I’m now worried as my hysteroscopy and biopsy will be in the backburner for a while. Was quite sanguine, but am now worrying as I’d like the biopsy done, just in case ...

Luckily it was not a bad period @Scratchyback but omg my body is determined to give me a period! I am almost fifty and on a back to back pill and still I got a period! But it's past now.

All good now.

I'd hate to be waiting on some other medical treatment now. A biopsy shouldn't be cancelled indefinitely @madamepewter , it uses different equipment and you're not going to end up staying over night or needing intensive care! Weird times. I pictured my fiftieth occasionally over the last decade! and I thought I'd be dolled up in my finery, going out, being slightly embarrassed about being fifty, but still happy and socialising.
I didn't think that absolutely everything I had planned would be cancelled! (obviously) and my boyfriend who I don't live with, all we do now is ring each other. I know things aren't good for him either right now, his brother who he lives with is a vulnerable person and is cocooning. So he is on the same page as me, neither of us wants to double the risks we have to take by getting together. We have had a few good conversations on the phone. I don't like the phone usually. I prefer to save it.

Whatever life is like after this virus has been and gone will be different. I thought I hated change and I do hate change but here we go. Adapt.

Jenibluebell · 03/04/2020 09:56

Hi please can I join ladies sending hugs to you all.
So my story is I'm 43, been having peri symptoms since 39 but periods were all ok.

Then in sept last year I have had a large polyp. My periods have been more painful and bad on day 1 to 3. Had scan In feb showed small fibroid growth but was classed as normal. Cycles have been day 23 day 25 day 28 .Had polyp removed 3rd march. Expected it to trigger period earlier (it was day 23 on the day of removal) but I had a week of noting then day 28 it turned up. It was normal until it carried on and on and on. In the last 8 days it was like a light flow when I was wiping. Rang doctor 3 times been told hormonal/procedure/stress and gave me transemic acid.

It calmed down somewhat, then on day 25 (weds) full on proper period again :( day 3 of it today. Rang docs again been told the same
The polyp removal seems to have disrupted me or triggered worsening period issues. Feeling so fed up and anxious. I'm worried about my iron!! Can anyone suggest anything other than the tablets , as I have problems with IBS so cant really take those, I'm using spa tone at moment but is there anything better?

Rhubardandcustard · 05/04/2020 11:58

Jumping into the thread. Feel like I’ve found my people.

Age 50 having various menopause symptoms for years mainly one at a time so easier to cope with.

The latest however is the periods, no idea when I’m going to get the next one- sometimes two weeks apart sometimes 3 months apart.

When I do get them though they have been unbelievably heavy, flooding. Last period in feb went on for over 3 weeks really heavy went to docs twice as concerned how much blood is was losing. Was doubled over with the pain, couldn’t stand upright as had such intense pain on left side of belly. Finally got tranxemic acid and that helped.

Got sent for ultrasound and hysteroscopy which I had this week. Had already started another period which didn’t seem to bad but the messing around inside seems to have set off the bleeding again.

They’ve taken some biopsies and I have a telephone appointment in 3 weeks for results.

Have really sharp pain and dragging feeling on left hand side of stomach - do you think this is where they did the biopsies? I’ve been resting as much as possible but have done a couple of short walks to escape the house during lockdown as needed to for my mental well-being. Not sure if I really shouldn’t be exercising at all right now. Pain is manageable with the painkillers the hospital gave me after the general anaesthetic.

If anyone else had hysteroscopy has any advice, bleeding not heavy after just the pain was more than I was expecting post 4 days after the procedure.

quertyuiop100 · 08/04/2020 10:16

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing? I've just had my telephone appointment with a gynae consultant. She said the ultrasound shows polyps and a possible fibroid. She was concerned about the thickness of my womb lining but said it's probably a combo of hormones, polyps and the fibroid. So I've now got to have a hysteroscopy and biopsy in the next couple of weeks to see what is going on. I've managed to put this to the back of my mind for a few weeks, but now I'm all stressed out about it again.

MrsGrindah · 13/04/2020 20:10

Found this thread in desperation.@Rhubardandcustard my experience v similar to yours. Currently having the worst period since before I went on the pill in my teens. 50 but believe I’ve had premenopausal symptoms for four years now. Last night the pain was frightening. But what frightens me more is the threads on here...clearly it takes ages to be taken seriously and/or find the right treatment. I hope this is just an anomaly.

Rhubardandcustard · 22/04/2020 11:10

Update. Biopsy results all normal so consultant said will just be peri menopause symptoms and she will prescribe me some tranxemic acid for future use. No sign of next period yet, hope this next stage doesn’t drag on too long. I couldn’t go to work last time as the bleeding was so heavy and work were really understanding but not sure if they will continue to be each time if it happens as bad again. Definitely don’t want to go down the hrt route as family link to cancer on my maternal side. So relief nothing nastier going on but a deep sigh as to how to deal with this going forward.

DivisionBelles · 04/05/2020 08:26

How is everyone? Got my biopsy and hysteroscopy on Wednesday. Can't say I'm looking forward to it. Typically my last two periods have been entirely unremarkable; a week long, no flooding, clots and flow moderate. Hoping this is a good sign.

DivisionBelles · 06/05/2020 09:14

Hysteroscopy today. Can't say I'm looking forward to it.

DivisionBelles · 06/05/2020 14:05

All done. Can't say it was pleasant, but the nurses were lovely. Explained everything to me and were just really chatty and friendly.

They found masses of polyps in my womb which they removed, and these will be tested for hyperplasia. Hopefully will be fine, but if not the treatment is progesterone. I had a Mirena fitted at the same time, which sorts that bit out. Just got to wait for the results now, about 3/4 weeks, but hopefully that's it.

I'm a bit uncomfortable now, but the pain is only as bad as mild period cramps. Having a lazy afternoon in the garden with MN and my book and getting DH and the DC to run round after me!

tibni · 29/05/2020 11:21

Hello again, was posting back in Feb / March but been quiet recently juggling lockdown / family/ bleeding.
My GP has been great and I managed to get internal scans done before lockdown. Bleeding stopped a while with progesterone but was temporary. GP has been speaking with consultant over last month and calling me every few days. Today he has called twice and in consultant advice I have been referred on the 2 week pathway.
Next week I must go for bloods and I should get appointment through and will be sent for cell sampling. I think in 'normal times' I possibly wouldn't be on pathway but Gp has been referring me for months via usual route but hospitals not accepting referrals currently .

DivisionBelles · 04/07/2020 20:56

I've just come back to this thread. Since I lasted posted at the beginning of May, I was diagnosed with womb cancer and had a full hysterectomy with ovaries, fallopian tubes and cervix removed at the beginning of June. It was a totally unexpected finding but if I hadn't finally got fed up with the heavy bleeding I would have carried on living with it for a lot longer. An ultrasound in March picked up polyps and a thick uterine lining. A routine biopsy during a hysteroscopy to remove the polyps found the cancer. I'm now four weeks post op and still a bit traumatised by it all. I will be trying to get an appointment with my GP this week to try and get some help with my anxiety.

I guess the moral of my story is that if you think something is wrong, do go to your GP and push them. Luckily my cancer was caught early - grade one, stage one A, so was confined to my womb and has a good prognosis. I've gone straight into surgical menopause though and am not allowed HRT as it's likely to have been a hormone receptive cancer. That's not much fun as I'm 48 and was hoping for another year or so before the joys of hot flushes and aching joints which have both just started with a vengeance.

Blimey DivisionBelles, thank goodness you pushed for answers and they caught it! Hope you continue to recover and adjust.
