MadamePewter · 28/12/2019 10:59

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

@tibni hope it went ok

Hi @MadamePewter everything went ok. Really nice guy doing scan so I asked him what he could see. I have to wait for official report to go to GP but nothing obviously causing the bleeding. My internals are as expected for my age, 1 small fibroid emerging but not in place that would cause bleeding.
I've had bloods taken as first GP didn't request test for sinister markers. Smear done. So now wait for results and look at next steps.

MadamePewter · 03/03/2020 23:17

Fingers crossed you get answers and treatment now

I have had menorrhagia relating to perimenopause since summer 2019. My periods have always been problematic due to a combination of endometriosis, polyps and PCOS and I have previously had fertility treatment. So further tests did not unduly worry me.

I had previously been offered the Mirena but refused it on the grounds that it is still not licenced as a treatment for endometriosis.

In November 2019 things went from bad to worse; I was bleeding almost continuously by then and I had started to flood too with lots of clots.

As I could not get to see my local GP surgery then due to lack of appointment availability I registered with Pushdoctor and the GP on there prescribed me with tranexamic acid tablets. These helped a little re flow but did not stop the bleeding. Over time they became less and less effective.

My GP when I did get to see him sent me for a blood test. When the results of this came back as "normal" no further action was taken and when I was told that there would be a three week wait for an appointment I gave up on the GP entirely. They did also suggest that I try phoning them at 8 sharp each morning to see if there was something available!.

I ended up referring myself to a gynaecologist at the local private hospital (I felt that bloody desperate) and after more tests and scans I have since had ablation surgery. It got to a point by then that even northisterone (which had been prescribed by the gynae and had worked well) did not stop the bleeding.

MadamePewter · 04/03/2020 19:34

@AttilaTheMeerkat more poor treatment unless you push/pay for it. I’m glad you got it sorted in the end.

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 05/03/2020 07:30

That sounds awful @AttilaTheMeerkat
Glad it is sorted.
You're scaring me when you say that northisterone stopped working. Im on azalia and not a drop of blood has been shed in the 3 weeks ive been on it. Thank goodness 😫

MadamePewter · 05/03/2020 17:06

I have my period, the first “real” one since the 44 day one and then the northeristerone withdrawal torrent. I’m scared....😱

Topseyt · 05/03/2020 17:12

Lets hope that this one isn't too bad, MadamePewter.

I'm still bleeding since I re-started about a week ago. Not torrents, but I am still pissed off that I have had only a week and a half free from it since 7th December.

Who'd be a woman? On this sort of thing I really do think that men have the better end of the bargain. Few of them would disagree, either.

MadamePewter · 05/03/2020 17:40

Thanks @topseyt

Yes.. I’d definitely swap to be a man just now!

MadamePewter · 06/03/2020 10:22

It’s a nightmare one again.. I feel absolutely revolting and am paranoid that I stink of blood. Had to have a shower in the middle of the night and up every hour to deal with it... ffs, I just want this to stop!!

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 06/03/2020 23:05

That sounds so awful @MadamePewter

I know you had the feeling of anxiety of dread on the 10 day provera course, but each daily tablet on that ten day course is much higher than on the monthly progesterone pill. I think it is 10mg per day compared with 75 mcg per day.

I don't want to be pushing the solution that worked for me like I"m not hearing the reasons it didn't work for you but just wanted to point out that that daily dose on the monthly pill is much lower.

Hi, I am 49, I have been having fairly regular periods of 5-7 days length, but over last few months, I missed a couple of periods, including last one. After 48 days I started spotting for a week, then had a week long heavy period, now having spotting again, altogether my 20th day of bleeding today. Spoke to GP after two weeks of bleeding, she did not seem concerned, has anyone else experienced this?

MadamePewter · 09/03/2020 19:06

Thanks @TheYearOfTheDog just saw this for some reason. That’s interesting about the pill.. I might enquire: at least I could stop it if bad, unlike the Mirena. And I fear any surgical intervention may be delayed owing to pressure on hospitals. The bleeding was carnage for a couple of days this time but has been less, but horrendous cramps and bloating. I travel everywhere with my trusty tena lady pants just in case ... 😂😱

MadamePewter · 09/03/2020 19:10

@Cd70 hello! Yes, that’s exactly what happened to me, a weird super long period. I got referred for investigations with the help of the posters on this thread giving me courage and it turns out it is not “just my age” but adenomyosis. Currently awaiting further investigations and treatment. Worth pushing for help and not allowing yourself to be dismissed. See above for the Power Pose 😂💪

Hope all the other sufferers are doing ok.

Thanks @madamepewter will go back to GP in a few days if it keeps going

DivisionBelles · 11/03/2020 18:33

Had my pelvic scan today. My endometrium is thicker than normal and the sonographer suggested I may have polyps which is causing the heavy bleeding. I have to make an appointment I see my Dr is a week or so and she's referring me to gynaecology. Tried to make a Drs appointment to no avail and have been told to ring back each morning at 8.30am. Can't see my getting an appointment for a month as last time I had to wait over four weeks. I can't have a Mirena until they've checked out my womb lining first. Not sure whether to be worried or not.

TheYearOfTheDog · 11/03/2020 20:11

Try it @MadamePewter i feel fine, the same, but no periods, no bleeding of any description for 3 weeks !
It is worth a try for a month and if you get that feeling of dread you know it is not for you.
Btw, my gp never pointed out to be that the 10 day course was a much higher dose per day. I only noticed that because i kept the boxes.
But i feel good. hHAPPY. Thank goodness this is sorted.

Topseyt · 12/03/2020 02:38

TheYearofTheDog, I have also been told about the mini pill for this, in an appointment with my GP.

I've been considering it and have more or less decided that I really want to swap to it now. I just wish it had been mentioned as an option to me before the mirena was pushed so relentlessly. I would have chosen it first, so I am rather annoyed about that.

I don't want a hormone releasing device inside me that I can't turn off if I don't like it. I want something I can be in control of. I can be in control of taking a pill and can stop it if and when I need to myself without having to rely on a reluctant medical profession to remove it.

Fat chance of me getting an appointment for that in the near future though with the grip coronavirus has on everything.

BleedinDreadful, I am in your area too.

Your treatment sounds dire. I do hope you get what you need eventually.

Unfortunately, with the coronavirus crisis I doubt that any of this will get any priority now. If indeed it ever got any.

I need talking down. I had my scan on Wednesday and both yesterday and today, the Drs have tried calling me. I had a missed call on my mobile so I called back but the receptionist couldn't see that anyone had tried to call. Anyway, I managed to get an appointment for next Friday in the end. However, in the meantime I've stupidly been googling. The sonographer measured my endometrium at 23mm which is apparently really thick. Coupled with the Dr trying to call me, I've now worked myself up into a right state.

I've come home from a course today and just blubbed in front of DH. DD is home next week and I was really looking forward to having a nice week off with her, but now I have this cloud hanging over me all week.

MadamePewter · 13/03/2020 17:17

Please try not to worry; I got a call to come in but it was just to discuss the results which were not sinister. I was told I had thickened lining too as well as the adenomyosis. So try to chill 😊

The Dr has just called me and reassured me a bit. Says it's very unlikely to be anything nasty, but they will want to do a biopsy before they fit a coil (if that's what I decide). I should hear from gynae in the next couple of weeks, coronavirus notwithstanding. Think I need a wine now!
