I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

Is it available OTC TheYearOfTheDog?

MadamePewter · 20/01/2020 21:09

Hello @MidLifeCrisis007 sorry you’re having such a crap time.

Get to the GP! See above for the power pose to adopt.

TheYearOfTheDog · 21/01/2020 00:03

No it isnt but I didnt have any trouble getting gp to prescribe. A real weight off my mind knowing that if i take a cyclakapron tablet the haemorrhaging will dry up...😦🛌

JinglingHellsBells · 21/01/2020 09:51

@MidLifeCrisis007 Please do not be embarrassed about needing to see a dr about heavy periods. For goodness sake- that's nothing! Drs will see women day in and day out on this kind of thing.
Confused about you saying you 'had some estrogen gels'- what do you mean and what were they for? Do you mean vaginal dryness- Vagifem?

JinglingHellsBells · 21/01/2020 09:53

cyclakapron Never heard of this- I thought it was Tranexamic acid that was in OTC tablets for heavy periods. @TheYearOfTheDog

Mummug · 21/01/2020 11:22

Well, my period started on Friday (every fortnight affair) and it has not turned into the usual period-from-hell (usually very heavy/clotty/flooding days 2 to 4/some cramping) but it is very light and no other symptoms. I got period pain 2 days before it came, but none since. VERY ODD. I don't think I have ever had a period like this (long history of endometriosis and fibroids, so my periods have always been heavy). Keep expecting the flooding to start, but it hasn't? I will take it.
(As an aside, I expect it is too early for the Agnus-Castus to have properly kicked in, but does anyone have experience of this? It's been mentioned on this thread a few times). The reviews certainly indicated that it can regulate things fairly quickly, but I feel it hasn't had a chance to work properly yet). This is certainly unusual I must say, but as I say, I'll take it :-)

MidLifeCrisis007 · 21/01/2020 13:17

This is the gel I was referring to (see attached).

I tried to book a Dr's appt just now but they've booked me with a nurse in the first instance.

Two week period- and going!
EllenRipley · 21/01/2020 14:02

So pleased to have found this thread! @JinglingHellsBells was very helpful and reassuring on the one I started the other day for the same reason. But as I'm permanently sticking pars onto my knickers and feel like my cervix is in a vice, it's also very helpful to meet fellow bleeders.

I went nearly a year without a period. Then a bit of spotting. Then at Christmas a full on period that's still going 😩 Thought it was finally petering out yesterday so did a bit of exercise today and it's started again. Fuxsakes. Had scans and hysteroscopy last summer and all good (shrinking fibroid, resolved cysts which have been coming and going for a few years, healthy endometrium). I'm really pissed off! And sore. And sick of buying sanitary products that look like pillows. Back to docs I suppose, possible referral for another scan but I doubt they'll find much or offer any solutions that don't involve a hysterectomy or coil.

There endeth my moan! Hope you're all taking iron... 😤

AnxiousAnnie01 · 21/01/2020 14:39

Ok so still bleeding albeit very slightly and again it waxes and wanes throughout the day. Only need a liner. @ellenriply the same thing happened to me last week as exercised and had a heavier bleed (going again tonight so will see what happens) . I also have a slightly achey feeling on my right hand side. Got an appointment with doctors next week but i have horrendous health anxiety and always fear the worst and work myself up into a frenzy (planned my funeral on numerous occasions) 😥. Today however everyone seems to want to tell me about someone they know who’s been diagnosed with cancer or felt ill and died quickly and i am now a dithering wreck!! My anxiety kicks in and says that it’s a sign that they’re telling me. All i now want to do is go to bed and hide under the quilt 😞

MidLifeCrisis007 · 21/01/2020 15:43

Oh AnxiousAnnie01... I also feel full of anxiety over things like this but console myself frequently that only the good die young so there's a few years left in me yet!!! I braved the Dr's surgery just now to see the nurse there. Have been given some Tranexaminc Acid tablets, gave blood so they can do an iron count and must return on Thursday to see the Gynae doctor. (Male... ). I've had bad smears in the past (and stage 2/3 pre cancer) so am inclined to work myself into a frenzy over issues down below.

MadamePewter · 21/01/2020 16:28

@MidLifeCrisis007 well done for braving surgery and getting the recommended meds!

@AnxiousAnnie01 it seems like there’s loads of us in the same boat which is reassuring when the fear strikes me.

@EllenRipley welcome to the club

@Mummug sounds promising... fingers crossed.

It turns out the scan I was waiting fir was cancelled by the hospital and returned to the GP, so I’ve been waiting for it nervously and now not happening. No one told me, I found out when I rang up as I hadn’t heard. I’m very cross. Moaned about it so GP again at end of week

@madamepewter what !!! Why ??? I bet you’re well hacked off !!! 😡😡

MadamePewter · 21/01/2020 17:33

I really am!! I’m not entirely sure why but something to do with not being post menopausal, I think from snippets over phone.

OP posts:
Mummug · 21/01/2020 18:18

That is terrible @MadamePewter, and not to have informed you is shocking.

MadamePewter · 21/01/2020 18:29

I think it’s typical of the sort of complete disinterest many of us on this thread have encountered in seeking help.

Fuelled by that thought and this thread I actually made a stand and said I wasn’t happy to be treated this way- so appointment magicked up

OP posts:
Topseyt · 21/01/2020 20:42

MadamePewter, that is really bad about your scan.

Stand your ground. We really shouldn't have to put up with this shit. Don't take no for an answer.

I'm still going. Not too heavy, but constant and in varying amounts throughout the day, increasing if I am busy or exercising, like walking the dog.

It is an utter pain in the arse.

MadamePewter · 21/01/2020 22:25

It sure is @Topseyt.

I’m thinking if going private for a gynaecologist appointment. But then I think they’ll just say i need a scan? It’s a six week wait to see one here on NHS and to ow I’ll be the fortieth day of my period... truly Biblical now!

OP posts:
EmmaGellerGreen · 22/01/2020 11:12

Can I join in please? No period for 6 months then suddenly boom. Last Monday/Tuesday were horrendous, heaviest ever with flooding which was a new thing for me. Then very light until this morning, when it was heavy again. Confusing and annoying.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 12:56

Hi @EmmaGellerGreen... it’s not a desirable thread to be on, but welcome!

How old are you? That sounds rubbish.

OP posts:
EmmaGellerGreen · 22/01/2020 13:01

Thank you! I’m 52 and have got off very lightly with the whole business until just now.

DivisionBelles · 22/01/2020 14:11

Still spotting here. And I've got crampy pain to boot. Wonderful! I'm also getting anxious about my Doc's appt on Friday. Rationally I know it's likely to be perimenopause, but can't help thinking the worst sometimes.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 14:26

Yep, @EmmaGellerGreen I’m fifth and regular as clockwork though madly heavy til this 40 dayer started a week early!!

@DivisionBelles I’m the same, swing between “must be peri menopause” (but please fix it!) and oh my god it must be something!

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 22/01/2020 18:51

Im interested in how long "ye" have had symptoms. Posters of 52 who are experiencing flooding, i wonder if your troubles started at 49.

I think the body is amazing. I am 50 in half a year and my body knows this and in the run up to precisely 50, i get flooding.

I might sound spaced out trying to articulate this. No matter how healthy we are or how well we have eaten or how much we have exercised, the body literally has a countdown clock in it.

Weird thought.

I havent had a drink!
Maybe I should.

I am an optimist and i am still clinging on to belief that that FLOOD i experienced nearly 3 weeks ago was a rare thing and that i wont go through this frequently (but not regularly 😭) for the next 3 years.

I actually did not get a period when the 10 days of provera ran out. Luckily! Tiny bit of bleeding that was all.

MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 20:27

I’m fifty and have had flooding periods for years, but they were regular and lasted less than a week.

This is new. Three months after ny 50th and bam!

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 22/01/2020 20:27

And very pleased @TheYearOfTheDog that no period after provera!
