I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

I think i’ll mention it at my phone consultation next week. Thanks xx

MidLifeCrisis007 · 02/02/2020 10:57

Just checking in here. It's 13-14 weeks of bleeding now and the bleeding has been noticeably heavier in the last 2 weeks. I saw my GP on 23rd Jan who referred me to the local hospital. I was fast tracked so had the appointment a week later. To my disappointment, the doctor then told me I needed to be booked in for a scan. I thought I was there for a scan! The referral form had the suspected "C" word on it. I was then sent off to book my scan within the hospital (initially told it would take 2 weeks, but then got a cancellation so just a week delay. Result! I then was told go back and book in a consultation with the doctor a week after the scan so they could discuss the scan findings with me. It all seemed so protracted. I'd rather hoped that the person doing the scan could interpret the scan. I then realised that I was likely to just be sent back and forth between the scanning department and the doctor, each time with a week/2 weeks between appointments.

I couldn't cope. It was breaking me. I've been losing so much blood (and I'd virtually planned my own funeral as well as sorting out all my financial paperwork for DH and the kids). The tranexamic tablets my GP gave me help with the blood loss but if I take more than a couple a day I feel like someone has kicked me in the belly.

I booked a private consultation and told my husband I'd sell a kidney to pay for it if I had to. The scan (which was yesterday) showed abnormalities (thickening of the uteris wall) which need further investigation so I'm booked in for a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on Wednesday. I'm reliably informed that this thickening is most likely something quite innocent - DH is convinced it's endometrial hyperplasia that I have. I hope it's something as relatively treatable as that.

This thread is a huge source of comfort to me. It's reassuring to know that I'm not the only one going through such a shit time!

TheYearOfTheDog · 02/02/2020 11:08

I feel your frustration that it's so protracted.

TheYearOfTheDog · 02/02/2020 11:13

@MadamePewter can I ask, so are you taking Northeristerone like a pill?

21 days on, 7 off. Or continuously. I have an apt on the 17/2 to discuss what women's clinic can do for me, so just would like to have an idea of what options there are before I go in!

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 11:24

@MidLifeCrisis007 that all sounds awful! I was getting similarly unsatisfactory treatment til I actually complained! (First time ever) Now things have speeded up a bit and I have a scan before my gynae appointment in the next fortnight. I’m glad you’re getting help now, even at your own expense, which is really unfair. There are loads of non malignant things which can cause this, so I hope you find out and can get the proper treatment.

@TheYearOfTheDog no, she just gave me ten days supply. Supposed to take three tablets a day, which I did at the start, but an now mostly just taking one a day which is keeping it away! I’m scared to stop altogether in case period returns. I am just feeling so much better in myself since it s bern away!

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 11:41

Also, @MidLifeCrisis007 have you had bloods done?

OP posts:
AnxiousAnnie01 · 02/02/2020 14:27

@MidLifeCrisis007 what an ordeal !! Sorry you had to pay but at least things are moving for you now. I feel your anxiety as i could have written your post (planned my funeral too). Please let us know how it goes on Wednesday. Stay strong xxx

tibni · 02/02/2020 15:10

Glad I have found you all - I'm on week 5 of my period with no sign of stopping. Previously they had been irregular but never particularly long.
Started new job with commute so not easy to fit dr in but think I'm going to have to go! I had been head in sand thinking it would go away soon.
Reading your posts has been informative and reassuring - thank you

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 17:28

Hello, @tibni. It’s awful, isn’t it? Feel for you. It’s definitely worth seeing the doctor. Insist on proper tests and ask for something to stop the bleeding meantime.Tranexamic acid didn’t work for me but the northeristerone has.

TheYearOfTheDog · 02/02/2020 17:47

When i got to the end of my ten day supply i had a little bleed and i thought 😭😭😭 oh no. But. So far so good. 🤞

MidLifeCrisis007 · 02/02/2020 20:05

tibni... you have my total respect. God knows how you can commute and hold down a new job with THAT going on in the back ground.

I'm in the fortunate position in that a family member is a gynae consultant and he's told me this week that persistent bleeding at our time of life is very common and very rarely anything nasty... and even if it is, it can virtually always be solved by a hysterectomy. AnxiousAnnie and I have probably been a bit premature planning our own funerals!!! We only do the menopause once.... the gynaecologists see people like us, day in, day out.

We are all here for a bit of virtual hand holding if you need it.

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 20:40

That’s good to hear @MidLifeCrisis007. A hysterectomy is sounding weirdly tempting these days...

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 20:42

And @TheYearOfTheDog that’s reassuring. I’m on a promise for Tuesday night 😂but will stop taking them thereafter and see what gives

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 20:44

As you can probably hear, I’m feeling much better with no period, despite the continued massive belly. Which is quite depressing as I’ve been doing loads of exercise and eating better

AnxiousAnnie01 · 02/02/2020 21:43

@MidLifeCrisis007 that’s reassuring to hear. It’s just such unknown territory and sadly no mum or sisters to talk to about it. Thank God for this forum. Felt low and anxious today, chin full of spots, moody and getting intermittent period pain that normally means i end up passing a clot (sorry if tmi ). Been bleeding for 8 weeks now and fed up with it. Xx

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 02/02/2020 21:54

I'm only 39. I'm bleeding constantly with clots. I have the implant which I'm having removed. My ferritin is 7 and I have low b12.

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 21:58

@Farontothemaddingcrowd that sounds awful! Are you getting treatment? I think I got a transfusion when mine was 6. And for the b12?
Is it likely related to the implant?

OP posts:
Farontothemaddingcrowd · 02/02/2020 22:01

They think so. I am getting the implant removed in two weeks. I have had an ultrasound and had a small cyst which disappeared the next time they scanned and 3 monthly injections of b12. I have just been told to take iron and folic acid but I think I need an infusion. I have flooded the bed, the sofa and the kitchen chair today.

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 22:07

That’s just not on, you must be feeling awful.

What I have learned from this thread and my experience is that you need to adopt the power pose and kick some ass to get proper treatment. You should ring your surgery and get an emergency appointment. If they won’t give you one then complain and note your symptoms and concerns. How can you be expected to function like that?!

OP posts:
Farontothemaddingcrowd · 02/02/2020 22:10

You are right. My DP is so worried. I tried a wedding dress on yesterday and had to use a super plus tampon, two pads and two pairs of knickers immediately prior to the appointment as I was terrified of ruining an expensive dress! Ruins the moment a bit though.

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 22:13

Oh my god, respect for that!! Very high risk situation...

Right, tomorrow gather all your inner strength and get an appointment! This kind of bleeding is an emergency. Sad to say but maybe get your DP on board to help..?

OP posts:
MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 22:14

It’s not every bride’s dream, is it..?!

OP posts:
Farontothemaddingcrowd · 02/02/2020 22:20

No definitely not. Thanks for the support - I'm going to try to sort this!

MadamePewter · 02/02/2020 22:21

Good luck and report back 😳
