MadamePewter · 28/12/2019 10:59

I’m fifty. Up til now periods pretty much regular as clockwork, though very heavy

Got this one a week early and still going, though not heavy, two weeks later 😱

Is this menopause..? Anyone else had this?

Anyone know how to interpret my hormone test results? Just called the surgery and they said no further action required......erm I don’t think so 8 weeks and still bleeding 😤 !! Results are FSH 21.2 and LH 4.7. Feel so low and teary today....fed up 😢😢

MadamePewter · 03/02/2020 15:17

@AnxiousAnnie01 oh, no, that’s rubbish. I can’t help with the hormone results but here’s some 💐as I’m sorry you’re feeling bad.

MadamePewter · 03/02/2020 15:18

@AnxiousAnnie01, did you ask about northeristerone??

OP posts:
AnxiousAnnie01 · 03/02/2020 15:31

@MadamePewter no i only spoke to the receptionist who said a doctor had looked at the results and said no further action. They told me that if my results were absolutely normal then they would examine me further and if they did indicate peri then discus coil, hrt etc. Got to phone now and try and get a telephone appt but on a course next for 3 days. Don’t know why they did blood test as i’m 47 and think i’m in the middle of an actual period?? Honestly is getting me down. Thanks for the flowers. Hope you’re ok ? Xx

MadamePewter · 03/02/2020 18:43

I don’t understand how the medics don’t seem to see how much this constant bleeding affects people, and seem quite uninterested. Maybe it does happen, but there’s medication that can help! Plus proper investigation. I keep saying it in here, but be the squeaky wheel!

I’m ok thanks, stopping the meds tomorrow so slightly nervous! I’m also a bit worried as I’m meant to be going on holiday at the start of March but unsure as to whether this will be possible.. no pleasure in a holiday when my main concern is the bulk purchase of period pads 😂😂

OP posts:
TheYearOfTheDog · 03/02/2020 19:12

I am also nervous that I will get another period and Im not even going on holiday! I was traumatised after the last one. Not being dramatic! I will be a squeaky wheel because apart frpm the exhaustion, discomfort, inconvenience, expense, it was demoralising and im trying to go through monpause with calm optimism.

I notice that you can buy the northeristerone 🤔 (sp) online from superdrug and i thought hmmmm good to know. Good to know!

Obviously i would prefer to discuss with GP and know the pros and cons of a few different options. The 21 day pack is just 5mg per day and the 10day supply i got was 10mg per day so i will ask if that's why they only give a 10 day supply.

I just want to go on the pill in the conventional way. Back to back if possible.

My daughter nearly 17 is dying from period pain when she gets her period. Being a woman is great craic.

Talking of bulk purchase of sanitary towels, i am sure the tesco delivery men dont give a rat's ass but i buy STs every week so that i dont go to tesco and queue up to buy six packs all at once, scaring the other shoppers! I could say "do you mind if i go ahead? Ive an ambulance waiting outside,".

AnxiousAnnie01 · 03/02/2020 19:14

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the tablets have reset your cycle and things go back to normal. How funny I’m meant to be going on holiday beginning of March too.....I can’t even think about it.

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 03/02/2020 19:29

I am really upset. Dp managed to get me an appointment for 6.10 today after they agreed I needed to be seen today. The receptionist booked me in for the 17th Feb rather than today. I turned up and waited like an idiot. I am still losing black jelly like clots whenever I go to the toilet and I'm now wearing maternity pads. I'm waking up in the night to change pads. The receptionist didn't apologise and just said there were no doctors available and I would have to ring at 8 am tomorrow. I also have anxiety around making doctor's appointments and I've been suffering from this progressively heavier period for a month now (and I've had years of it, on and off). I just went outside and cried.

Mummug · 03/02/2020 20:29

Makes me so mad to see how woman are treated. My heart goes out to you all for suffering, plucking up the courage to go to the doctor and either never reaching there o being fobbed off when you do.

I have only 2 things to add: 1. the VITEX (Agnus Castus) seems to be working for me and I can barely muster the courage to write the words for fear of tempting fate. (The research says it will have best effects after 3 months, but I didn't get the dreaded fortnightly period I was expecting, and the last one was a doddle compared to normal and while it is early days, I feel that my cycle might be back to 28 days. Please let this be the case). 2. A tip I learned from Mumsnet is that Tena/incontinence pads are so much better than sanitary towels and have really saved me from humiliation these last 12 months. The difference is amazing actually. Beware of the awful heavily scented ones though - I had an horrendous reaction recently from some Always ones. TMI but I was red raw. The relief of not having to wear any pads for these last 10 days is bliss.
So much support on this thread and comfort to know we have each other.

MadamePewter · 03/02/2020 21:21

@Farontothemaddingcrowd that’s just awful! I can’t believe they’d just leave you like that. I really hope it goes better tomorrow 💐

Thanks @AnxiousAnnie01. It really crap that we can’t even look forward to a holiday.

@TheYearOfTheDog it’s not dramatising, it just makes you feel awful. I think I might struggle to buy it online as when I looked before they check bp when you collect? And mine is high when near any medics.. wonder why!! I also think it’s giving me pmt style doomy feelings..but better than period. It’s funny, my teen daughter is also suffering but been put on a pill to try after others haven’t worked.

MadamePewter · 03/02/2020 21:24

I love the image of Tesco too.. racing to the shelf and brooking no delay!!

Thanks @Mummug that’s helpful. I never thought I’d say this but I’ll invest in some tena pants just in case. So fed up of the leaking/flooding anxiety. Even going in my man’s fancy car is just so stressful when in full flow. I always avoid anything which is claiming to scent my bits.. 😂

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 04/02/2020 21:01

I'm being referred to gynae and am having a full blood count next week. She said they wouldnt check for peri menopausal unless I had been without a period for 6 months and I've been bleeding constantly. I haven't had a smear for quite some time either, so I need to have a smear when the bleeding stops.

MadamePewter · 04/02/2020 21:27

@Farontothemaddingcrowd I’m pleased something is happening. Any idea of timescale? And did they give you drugs to stop it?

OP posts:
DivisionBelles · 04/02/2020 22:20

Not been in thread for a while as fingers crossed everything seems to have settled down again now. Whether it's the agnus castus, Lady's Mantle tea or just luck, I don't know, but happy things are back to some predictability again. In fact I came on again today at precisely 28 days.

I have my appointment for a scan on 11th March now too and depending on the results of that, and how the next couple of periods go, then I may consider a coil.

Your situation sounds rubbish farfromthemadding. Hope you get sorted soon.

MadamePewter · 04/02/2020 22:59

@DivisionBelles hurray! And fingers crossed...

Thank you midlifecrisis007. for your kind words.
Nightmare day - flooded straight through at work, thank goodness that we operate a 'tampon club' - ie a stash of free supplies in toilets that we all stock up. 2 pads plus super tampon and uncomfortable meeting where I dare not move!
On way home went to dr to book appointment, I must look rough as I was told to look for walk in by where I work if I start feeling faint (first available week on Saturday)
This is the second big flood in last couple of weeks and it's short lived but when it happens it's uncontainable and unpredictable.
Wish me luck at all day corporate event tomorrow!
So

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 05/02/2020 07:29

The GP is ringing me on Thursday and then the full blood count is on the 18th. I already have very low ferritin, so she said to go to A and E if I flood excessively in the meantime.

AnneWeber · 05/02/2020 07:58

I've just finished my first period after the withdrawal period after coming off the Norethisterone following a 3 week period. So all seems back to normal for the time being and my scan was fine

AnxiousAnnie01 · 05/02/2020 08:40

@tibni hope today goes ok for you at your corporate event i know how nerve racking it is. @Farontothemaddingcrowd keep pushing. Glad you have an appointment for bloods at least. It seems like we are all in the same boat. Hugs to you both xx

MadamePewter · 05/02/2020 08:48

It seems wrong that we’re being told to go to emergency clinics rather than being treated timeously and effectively by primary care.

Good luck today @tibni

And that’s great to hear, @AnneWeber Gives me hope.

@MadamePewter... I'm sitting here in my paper pants and backless gown in hospital waiting to go down and was really touched to see your kind message. Thank you. x

AnxiousAnnie01 · 05/02/2020 17:26

@MidLifeCrisis007 i hope today went ok for you, i know it won’t have been nice. @tbni i hope you’ve made it through your corporate event without any problems as well. I managed to get an appointment with a lovely female doc this morning who specialises in gynae issues. Had a great chat about this never ending period and she confirmed my bloods showed I am definitely in peri. She said irregular bleeding was very common and from looking at my notes said my scan in 2017 showed 2 really large fibroids. Peri and fibroids are a major cause of prolonged, irregular bleeding but she wants me to go for a scan to check my endometrial lining and see if there have been any changes (fingers crossed nothing awful) and then discuss next steps. My bleeding has lessened but not stopped but sadly i live in fear of flooding at any time. Feel happier that they’re looking into it but would much rather it wasn’t happening at all.....not called Anxious Annie for nothing 🙄

Topseyt · 05/02/2020 17:46

I haven't been on here for a few days either. Hugs to all of you who are still struggling.

MidLifeCrisis007, I hope it has all gone as smoothly as possible today. Good luck to you.

Tibni, Farontothemaddingcrowd, AnxiousAnnie and others, this sounds hardly bearable, and the "treatment" you are getting is abysmal. Keep pushing.

I am still struggling to settle with this mirena coil that they fitted on 7th December last year. It was to solve heavy bleeding. I have bled every day since, and although it is generally less than my floods, it is still an eight week period which isn't letting up. Who wants that as a "solution" either? I am also an irritable old sod now. Localised hormones my arse!! That being of course how they sell the mirena.

I have my GP appointment on 18th of Feb at which I hope to discuss options going forward, especially as I am now more than tempted to throw in the towel with the mirena.

MadamePewter · 05/02/2020 18:56

@AnxiousAnnie01 that sounds positive! Progress. Though I’m totally with you I’m wishing it wasn’t happening at all...

@Topseyt that’s rubbish but tallies exactly with my mirena experience. Horrible, and I was so grumpy which isn’t like me.

I don’t think the hormonal route is good for me; Still no bleeding after the northeristerone stopped but I can feel my doom lessening and hope I’ll get proper sleep!

💐to @MidLifeCrisis007 and everyone else having a horrible time.
