Evorel Conti Patches

I went to the doctors today and have been prescribed Evorel Conti patches.

I'm on Evorel sequi, even though I am post menopause at 49. I started 5 months ago and this regime seems to suit me very well so far. I felt I didn't want to take progesterone all the time so 2 weeks estrogen only then 2 weeks prog & estrogen & I feel so much better! Back to how I felt years ago before all this palava started😌

You are not wrong about menopause being a palava. When I was younger I longed for my periods to be over, I didn't realise everything that went with it. It's been rough.

It certainly can be a very rough time for some of us. I found the months after my last period horrendous...especially emotionally.

Daisy, I went to the doctors because I was fed up with joint and muscle pain. I wasn't expecting her to say try hrt so I was a bit surprised. I am a little scared to try the patches but I have nothing to lose really.

mermaid- conti HRT is for women who have not had a period for at least 12 months or are over age 54. You may get odd bleeding for the first 6 months and I assume your GP had advised and discussed this with you? TBH if you are just post meno, you would be better starting with a sequi type so you can work out which dose of estrogen suits you best, and how you react to the 2 weeks of progestogen in sequi, before using a combined type all the time.

Polly, I have not had a period for 21 months.

That's ok in theory but there is no 'rule' about using conti HRT if you prefer not to. I am 10 years post meno and use sequi still as I prefer a cycle, not taking progestogen daily.

Hi I have just been prescribed Evorel cont patches to replace Ellese diet conti.. 2 days in & I feel terrible? Crampy tummy,tender breasts & emotional. Anyone had experience with this? X

It didn't suit me...I bled for 31 days!

Hi im new on this site but saw this and i was prescribed Evorel conti patches, and felt really tired , legs felt jumpie so i couldnt sit still and watch tv, had to walk around also had the runs, i have tryed all the herbal stuff goin and have had reactions to them and been told by doctors to stop taking them, but im so fed up of the menopause, and the way it makes me fee, and the painful, sex to the point i dont have sex anymore , so i went to see a doctor got put on these patches and still had reactions to them,
Has anyone else had probs like this or am i just a oddball lol x

You definitely aren't an oddball. I have been on these Conti patches for 6 weeks. I have had one full period then nothing for two weeks and have been spotting for 10 days now. I feel really worthless and have had diarrhoea and cramps since since Saturday. Not sure if all these symptoms are connected with HRT. Not really sure what to do about it is it too early to think they are not for me?

Hi I was put on Evorel Conti patchers 22nd October, and yesterday started bleeding is this normal?

What is the difference between Evorel conti and Evorel sequi ?
I’m post menopause 10years my doctor prescribed Evorel conti last week haven’t tried them yet as the first patch I put on fell off didn’t stick where is the best place to stick them on your body below your waist?

The reason the doctor prescribed Evorel conti I still get hot flashes day and night and get anxiety .

Has anyone got any advice on which patch I should be on before I start The properly .

Everol Conti if you have been post menopausal for that length of time.
There are diagrams on the leaflet. I alternate right and left so it sits inside my pants elastic lines( so it does not get rubbed ) , and usually in line with hip bone.

I've been on Evorel Conti since last August. First couple of months were great and I felt amazing, I felt human and myself again. Since then it's been downhill, bleeding every 2 weeks and sore boobs, low mood, anxiety....all the usual menopause symptoms. I've had an ultrasound scan to check for endometrial cancer and that was clear. It doesn't feel right so I'm seeing my GPs next week. I'm back where I started but with the added nightmare of a fortnightly bleed! I hadn't had a period for 3 years.

If you have a browse around / google online about conti HRT, you'll find erratic bleeding is the norm for conit types- for up to 6 months.

I think this is explained on the leaflet info too.

There was no need for a scan etc as it can take 6 months for the balance of the 2 hormones to get into 'synch' and stop any endometrial growth.

It may very well all settle very soon.

If not, you can always use sequi- no need to have to use conti post menopause- or you could have Mirena coil + estrogen.

Just came across this thread. I've been on Evorel Conti for 3 months. 1st month was great, I had no headaches, no nausea, no hot flushes, and was even sleeping much better. Then the bleeding started about 6 weeks in and has been a complete nightmare since, worse than the worst period ever and they were horrific but at least they stopped. I'm getting serious cramps every few days and am spending a small fortune on sanitary products. Went back to my GP last week, am being sent for a scan, told that I need to stop HRT and have been prescribed tranexamic acid which is used for major trauma cases to stop patients bleeding out. I'm really reluctant to stop the HRT as it's great for my symptoms but can't tolerate the bleeding. Anyone else been thro this and got any advice? TIA

New to this site so bear with me if I do something wrong! In need of advice about Evorel Conti patches. I was prescribed them by my doctor after I refused Premarin. I have the most horrendous night sweats ( I’ve been investigated for everything from thyroid and autoimmune disorders to bloods to check for cell death rate, otherwords, cancer. All fine) my mood was beyond depression, anxiety through the roof and each day was a struggle. A FSH test showed I was indeed peri menopausal ( no periods for four months ) So I’m just four days into the patches. I guess I was so desperate that I hoped it would be an instant miracle cure but I know that’s not realistic. I have no headaches yet ( migraine sufferer ) or bleeding but last night I began to feel nauseous and then had many painful bouts of awful diarrhoea. I still feel very sickly today and can only assume it’s the patches. My night sweats/ non stop overheating in the day hasn’t changed yet and not has my mood which is so incredibly low, I cry and feel disinterested in everything all the time.
I’m 50, had four children and not had a hysterectomy. I am doing my very best to hang in there but I’m finding it so tough. Don’t want to go back to my doctors as they will probably just say stick it out which I am but did anyone else suffer nausea and diarrhoea this early on? I really feel like I’m going mad to be honest and that I’ll never find the happy energetic person I used to be ever again. Any help would be great

You are using conti? That's each patch with 2 hormones? (Just checking!)

If you are in peri, then conti HRT is not the correct type of HRT.
Conti HRT is for women who are post meno ( 12 months at least with no period) or aged 54+

You should be on sequi HRT- estrogen daily and progestogen 12 days each 28 day cycle.

You need to go back to the drs and talk this over.

Your side effects are possibly due to having 2 hormones all at once. It's far better to begin with a sequi regime, so you can see how you feel on estrogen-only for 2 weeks before adding in the progestogen in the 2nd half of th e cycle.

Hi, thank you for the reply. Yes it is Evorel Conti so the two hormones combined. I did read something about it being suitable only for women who have had no period for over a year and having just re read the leaflet, it does indeed state that it’s only suitable for women who have had no period for 18 months. I haven’t had a period for just 4 months now. I have been experiencing awful depression and anxiety before using the patches and I can’t say that it’s any worse whilst using them but certainly no better. My mental state is shocking and it just makes you more anxious and depressed when you have a bunch of physical symptoms too. I have phoned my doctors and awaiting a phone call to discuss whether this is the correct HRT. I’m really grateful for your input, thank you so much x

It's just so shocking that GPs can't get these basics right!
Two types of HRT, one for peri and one for post meno and they can't even educate themselves on that!
Given 50% of their patients are women , it's terrible.

My suggestion is you ask for oestrogen gel (you can adjust the dose yourself from 2 pumps per day up to 4) and micronised progesterone ( brand name Utrogestan.) You use that for 12 days a month, starting the utrogestan either Day 1 of each month or Day 15. They won't have heard of either I bet, but plenty of us use that.

The other option is tablet - Femoston- which lots of women find good because the progestogen in it is similar to our own and less like to cause mood swings.

Thank you again, gosh I feel so relieved to have found such a kind helpful lady who clearly is more knowledgeable that my own GP! I opted for patches as I suffer from indigestion from tablets and have a rather delicate tummy that’s prone to upset from meds so I thought it would be my best option. I am so cheesed off with my doctors as on a visit two weeks ago in a rather emotional state suffering from night sweats that are like being in a swimming pool and the worst feeling of impending doom I was told I was creating the symptoms through anxiety and I needed cognitive behavioural therapy and that’s all. Then another doctor told me to get Premarin at the pharmacy as he couldn’t prescribe anything over the phone. When I asked for an appointment he seemed fed up. If I get no sense then I’m changing doctors!! JinglingHellsBells, it means so much to me to have you help and your advice. Some sanity in what feels like a very crazy world!

If you have a dodgy tummy, might be best to avoid pill form- that's a good move.
You could use estrogen-only patch (Estradot) plus Utrogestan, or oestrogen gel plus uUrogestan.

If your GP is useless, see another one.

MenopauseMadness - I'm in a very similar situation as you. Been on Evorel Conti since last June (I hadn't had a period for 2 years). I'm 50.

After the first few weeks when I had a bit of spotting, everything was great up until around the 4 month mark. I stated having spotting and then bleeding, and then spotting again. This went on for about 2 months, during which I had an ultrasound which they said was fine (apart from a small area of calcification, which I was told was nothing to worry about).

I then had about three weeks with nothing, and now I've started bleeding again, about the same amount as a normal period (it's now about 7/8 months since I started the patches).

Consultant I saw after the ultrasound said everything was fine and some women just bleed on continuous HRT (even after 6 months), but I'm not sure I want to put up with the worry over whether the bleeding is "normal" each time it happens, and I'm not sure what to do!
