I went to the doctors today and have been prescribed Evorel Conti patches.

Just wanted to know your experience on this type of hrt,

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I thought so. But do you know exactly why sequential HRT is recommended for someone at my stage, and continuous for post-meno? I just want to be informed enough to tell my GP why I don't want to use the Evorel Conti. I can't find the answer anywhere on the web :-(

The reasons are.....

1 There is no reason ever to use conti. Most women prefer it for convenience of no withdrawal bleeds but medically there is no real reason . (In fact there is evidence that conti HRT has the highest risk of breast cancer . Most GPs won't know this- it's specialist knowledge - and is linked to using synthetic progestogens daily.)

2 Conti HRT balances out estrogen and progestogens on daily basis, so that you get no bleeding. This can take up to 6 months because it takes that long for the womb lining to stay thin (it's the gradual effect of progestogen that does this.)

So..... If you are ovulating and having occasional periods , you may well get bleeding with conti HRt that is your own cycle kicking in. So there is little point trying to get a no-bleed regime' going because you are likely to bleed anyway.

This is the main reason for avoiding it till post meno.

Thanks so very much for taking the time to reply so thoroughly. This is incredibly helpful and I can now speak to my GP a little more informed. I think I will change GP anyway, however. I have lost trust.

this thread is worrying me as I put on my first conti patch today.
I had tried Conti before (can't remember the name - Klikovance or something) but had really painful breasts and continous discharge so came off it and went back onto Ellest sequi, which is fine but fed up with bleeds. In January Doc said she wouldn't presecribe it any more as I had been on it for a while and gave me ADs for mood swings. The hot flushes came back with such a vengeance that I couldnt cope any more so went back, saw different doc and he has given me the patches. I am 55. I don't know if my periods have stopped as being on Ellest sequi gives me a bleed anyway.
I have my first patch on today but am worried after reading all these negative comments. I have taken on an exercise programme ad sweated blood (almost) to lose 10lb and I do NOT want to regain it!!!

Hi I've been prescribed evorel 50 oestrogen only patches has I'm pre menopausal & having horrific symptoms, I've had a hysterectomy but still have my ovaries so that's why my doctor prescribed this HRT..I'm interested in peoples views on this HRT has I'm so undecided whether to try them or just go to the local health shop...thanks Smile

HotFlush1970 · 03/04/2019 15:44

I’m now on Evorel Sequi, but as I understand it you only need the progesterone patches if you’ve had a hysterectomy as the progesterone protects your uterus from the risk of cancer. So you’ve been prescribed the correct type. I’m only 1 week into it so I can’t really comment on it, but I recently read a very in depth book about the menopause...it reviewed studies on all the alternative rememdies and concluded that there was no evidence that any of them worked. Might be worth a try first though if you’re worried about hrt?

What was this book you read??..its such a hard decision to make because HRT isn't for everyone & there's pro's & cons but I can't live with these symptoms Confused

HotFlush1970 · 03/04/2019 18:18

It’s called Understanding the Menopause and HRT. It lays it all out in layman’s terms, and is very evidence based. It is a hard decision but the book definitely helped me. Good luck!

You can try herbs etc but it can be a long and disappointing experiment.

Have a read of the website by Dr Louise Newson or the website Menopause Matters.

HRT is marvellous for me- been on it 11 years and hope I never have to stop unless I have to for some reason.

Honestly, what have you to lose by trying it? You can stop after a few months if you feel no better. The risks up to 5 years of use are almost non existent. Don't overthink it is my advice.

You might also like to know that the ovaries are known to pack up around 2 years after a hysterectomy regardless of age etc.

It’s called Understanding the Menopause and HRT

That book was published in 2007. Unless all the stats have been updated ( unlikely), it will be based on the WHI and Million Women studies into HRT and both of these are discredited ( as poor unreliable studies.) Sadly, a lot of GPs (and women) still believe those stats and that's why they are being scared and denied HRT.

Far better look at the websites I mentioned about written by current, working doctors.

I've put my 1st patch on today so let's see how it goes 😊😊😊

Weirdly there’s no publication date in the book, but it’s definitely newer than 2007 as it refers to research years after. But yes I guess things could have changed since this book was published, even if it was much more recently.

In another note, I’m on my third patch and it has detached itself after just one day. Do you have any experience of this? I’ve stuck it back on with a web of surgical tape, but now it’s uncomfortable. Any tips for getting them to stay on, or is this just something that happens?

The listing on Amazon gives it as being revised in 2007.

.Family Doctor Publications Ltd; Rev Ed edition (14 Mar. 2007)

I've heard some women use a low setting on the hairdryer to make their patch sticky.

(This is one reason I've never wanted a patch and prefer gel!)

HotFlush1970 · 04/04/2019 16:16

This must be a later edition as it refers to more recent research. Thanks for the tip. Everyone I know who uses patches seems to have no problem with this. I must have a rough bum.

Please help me!!!! Started Evorel Conti end of February..... Have lost my sense of smell and taste altogether. Doctor changed me to Fermoson. After 5 days I was ready to kill someone. I went back onto Evorel Conti and feel better, but now have little bleed, night sweats, not in mood for doing anything. Has anyone experienced the loss if smell and taste. I'm 54, overweight, last period September 2018, am on Estalopram for Bi-polar and off Tegratol fully for 3 weeks. Can anybody help me..... Thank you

I've just come across this thread and wondered if anyone else is experiencing problems getting hold of Evorel Conti patches? I have just been prescribed them by my GP but can't find any supplies at local chemists. They tell me there is a shortage and they don't know when they will get any new stocks. They don't seem to know what the problem is. Does anyone know and are you experiencing similar problems? Thanks in advance!

Oh gosh. Started taking these a few weeks ago. Fine so far, but since yesterday have had a very bloated/tender stomach. Will give it a while to see if it disappears.

Started taking Evorel Sequi patches yesterday after being on Femseven for 10 months (this has been withdrawn by the manufacturer). 24 hrs in and have stomach cramp and headache, hoping this settles down. Plus point is the patch has stayed put so far, unlike the Femseven where I had to buy large waterproof plasters to stick on top as they were forever peeling off (read somewhere this is one of the reasons it has been withdrawn).

Is this normal - started evorel conto a couple of months back. First 5-6 weeks went fine, then bleeding for two weeks (accompanied by period like bloating etc), then a week after that stopped I have started bleeding again - really bloated, awful cramps (woke me up this morning) and heavy bleeding now.

colly
Logged on here for this very reason :( been using happily for 9 mths ...this week went to collect my repeat prescription to be told they will no longer stock it and ringing around, my local pharmacies all say same.
Why?
Do we need to worry?
And that the doc will send in a substitute prescription but for what? And it will be late now.
Is this more proof that we are invisible. 😔

I posted when i was on only my second patch of Evoral Conti,,i am now 4 weeks in and stopping it,
I have had more hair loss, [much more] it is floating out in front of my eyes, also the runs still, and low down aching
Several ladies on menopause matters website have had the same problem with hair loss
I am going back to the Drs on the 5th, to see what he has to say, he thought the Oestrogen would help my hair, but it is the particular type of progestogen [ Noretheristone ] that is very harsh from what i have read, and i just cant cope with any more hair loss, i have bald patches now from one side at the back to the other
