Wish Mumsnet had a blimmin' automatic spellchecker...Mrs thickie!

oggsfrog · 19/11/2007 20:28

Okay Lyra, you incisive journo you, where are your probing and telling questions, huh? huh?
Goes back to her teen style questioning...
What is his favourite ice cream flavour?
What would he rather do, suck all of the snot out of a dog's nose or slide down a razor blade? (top that Mrs Fleet Street )
What is his favourite licorice allsort?
Does he have hairy toes?...

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 20:31

Do you really want to know this stuff? Really?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 19/11/2007 20:42

My life would be complete if only I knew the answers

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 20:46

Here's another one for the list.
What's your favourite colour?

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 19/11/2007 20:51

What is his opinion of (on?) foxes? Cute, fluffy, woodland creatures or opportunistic murdering b@stards? (just lost 2 chickens to the swine )

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 20:55

Oh no
I hate the murdering swine too. They stole DP's work shoes and DS2's sandals and they dance on my car with their shrp claws out .
Not the same as losing chickens though.

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 19/11/2007 20:56

Have I not already asked that question Lyra? How remiss of me
Is the Kyoto treaty an outdated failure based on the wrong premises?

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 20:59

Hmm, the other extreme. Perhaps somewhere in the middle?
Do you think Berrie/Kanga2 will ever tell us her juicy gossip?
(sorry Berrie )

OP posts:
oggsfrog · 19/11/2007 21:10

I think we should behave like adults and drop the subject. A promise is a promise after all

let's get her drunk and see what comes out

...failing that, anyone any good at administering chinese burns??

binkleandflip · 19/11/2007 22:23

We already know he has hairy hobbit feet so I'm going to say 'yes' to hairy toes..

(..um, I kind of like foxes and chickens so I'm staying out of that one)

The advert was on for his Cd earlier and it sounds great and all but why oh why oh why have they done it in K-tel style

ie Oh look! Here's Lee walking through the city at night singing "Paint it Black" and oh see here's Lee sat in a flat inexplicably singing "Gonna make you a star-ar-ar!!!!" and oh yes! Here's Lee sitting on his sofa smouldering into the lens and singing that he wants to make it with me , okay that one wasnt so bad -

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 22:34

Have you downloaded it yet Binkle?

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 22:37

Just seen the ad, coincidentally. The Paint it Black video looks good. It sounds a bit sterile on the album.

OP posts:
binkleandflip · 19/11/2007 22:39

WHat did you make of the ad?

No havent downloaded yet, I've been bathing the dog which as you can imagine is quite a long job!!

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 22:53

A little cheesy but as I say PIB looked good.
Is the dog all nicely groomed then?

OP posts:
binkleandflip · 19/11/2007 22:58

Yes, PIB is the standout tune isnt it? Its like it didnt exist before Lee did it - it could have been written for him.

The dog is currently dripping away on the tiled floor in the porch - it will take her at least 24hours to be dry - Its quite an aroma that we will be greeted with in the morning - wet dog in confined space at least she's peach flavour instead of mud and leaves now

binkleandflip · 19/11/2007 23:00

I'll say night now - I'm off to dream of butter, crumpets and Lee!

LyraSilvertongue · 19/11/2007 23:01

Mmmm, the smell of wet dog. How delightful!
I read somewhere that the other boys laughed when LM was given Paint it Black to sing on ADWD. Who's got the last laugh now eh? That song won it for him.
Gotta go to bed. G'night.

Taking dd to playschool for first time in a bit....what are the chances I'll be bringing her back do you think? I'm afraid I'm not going to be bullied to do the 'sensible' thing this time...I remember them making me leave ds at an end of term party he was hysterical about being left at. When I picked him up he told me I should have taken him home...turns out he was terrified because he thought the clown was going to give him a sweet and he'd heard me saying something about it because of his nut allergy...

Zebedeedoodah · 20/11/2007 09:04

Morning all. And purely in the interests of faithfully reporting back to you lot, I have now diligently listened to the CD around 3 times. And, errrrm, I'm glad I got it cheaply from Woolies rather than paying full price. . If you've got an ipod, just download tracks 3 (the best one),5,6,7 and 8.

There are actually only 2 decent songs on it, of which only one of them is brilliant. Gonna Make You a Star and Make It With You are just cringing embarassments IMHO, which feel like target marketing to the over-45s. Paint It Black is all right but just doesn't hit it like the 2 live ones did and like you said, the Gary Barlow song is just bland. I can see why they've gone down this route, but I hope he brings out something way better very soon!!!!!

However....his voice is just gorgeous, so he more or less gets away with it and the cd is perfect for a long soapy candle-lit bath, if you're into that kinda thing. And I haven't seen any of the videos, so maybe that could change my mind, but, bottom line, it's not gonna replace the Lee-fest cd in my car stereo for very long.

Zebedeedoodah · 20/11/2007 09:06

Good luck Berrie! I hope it goes ok.

And please don't tell your mate I wasn't too impressed with the cd, he might pass it on, and that would never do!

LyraSilvertongue · 20/11/2007 09:37

Hmmm, I have to disagree Zeb. First time I listened to it I wasn't that impressed but the more I listened the more I liked it.
Make it With You is one of my favourite tracks, it's just beautiful, not an embarassment at all. His voice is smooth and silk. PIB lacks the fire of the live version but it's still good. It's been given a bit of a middle eastern feel which I think works.
Track 3, You and Me, is very good, track 6, All That You Know, is excellent, track 7, How Can I Be Sure, has a musical theatre feel to it. The Gary Barlow track is still bland no matter how many times you listen to it.
So overall there are about 7 tracks worth listening to out of 11. Definitely worth £9.77 from Sainsbury's imo.

OP posts:
Zebedeedoodah · 20/11/2007 10:07

£8.97 in Woolies!
I'd agree that track 6 is the other really good song on it, but Make it With You I just found toe-curling, although not as bad as Make You a Star. However....I will listen some more and see if it's a grower and report back again tomorrow, as I really don't deny that his voice IS beautiful.

Have you seen the review of the Golden Compass in today's Telegraph yet, Lyra?

LyraSilvertongue · 20/11/2007 10:10

I do think it's a grower, so keep persevering.
No we don't get the Telegraph. I'll buy it when I go out later. What did they make of it?

OP posts:
Zebedeedoodah · 20/11/2007 10:22

They thought the special effects were great but over-shadowed the acting. Daniel Craig & Nicole Kidman were described as under-used, and they thought that the Iorek and Lee Scoresby were the best things in it! Here it is if you don't want to shell out on the hard copy.
