West London - October thread

My mum just arrived and let herself in. Apparenty DS rang her whilst I was in the shower and didn;t hang up so she couldn't call back to check I was OK. She arrived thinking I had fallen down the stairs and instructed DS to call (he's not actually smart enough yet to understand numbers!)

Better than the police I guess.

hello all

cov hope you got the bins sorted
that is really annoying

yingers belated birthday wishes to your dd hope she had a nice day.

we had a quiet day with just did some shopping locally and dd tried out her small talk skills talking to shop assistants about the weather
'bit cold today, I like christmas tress'

sfxmum · 24/10/2007 18:07

or even trees

CovenOVeneer · 24/10/2007 18:09

Having been out shopping it is now apparent nobody has had their bins emptied (they have only done the recycling ones). Will see if they turn up tomorrow am otherwise I will call them.

Kewcumber · 24/10/2007 20:07

steppie - she has family but not that close (though no doubt they'll be here by now), they weren't at all close to his family and I think his mother fairly recently died herself. Apparently he lived long enough for her and the children to see him then he had a second heart attack too massive to do anything about.

To be fair he wasn;t the best advert for a cardiologist, smoked, did no noticeable exercise and drank and was slightly overweight but still... didn;t seem like a walking heart attack victim. I remember talking to him at my sisters house a couple of Xmases ago and how sociable he was (he was generally an antisocial git!), so sad for her and the kids.

on a marginally more positive note - I remember starting a significant thread one year ago today. Cup of coffee in M&S to the first person who gets it!

This one... I was just thinking earlier this week that it must be around a year ago.

CovenOVeneer · 24/10/2007 20:33

Confirmation of your trip to Kaz? Off to do a search

rosmonster · 24/10/2007 20:35

That's why I couldn't find it, bloody halloween namechangers

Ok, dh is out, I've had a glass of wine, a bath, tea eaten straight out of the pan over the sink [blush, have brought the laptop up to bed and am currently watching dirty dancing

CovenOVeneer · 24/10/2007 20:42

Foxie, MIL has decided it is too cold for Kew, so is coming here for lunch (expecting me to pick her up from the station and taking her to Kingston to go shopping, her idea of spending quality time with her grandchildren ).

SJ99 · 24/10/2007 21:07

Hello all

Ros - Thanks for the playdate today, it was fun and both boys played incredibly well, hooray!

Have just sent off my CV to an agency to see what the job market is like - quite scary after 2yr absence at the office, anyway will see what turns up...

LOL at mini sfx, she's so cute
COV - good luck with all your baking, your oven's going to be working overtime

Steppie - we just came back from living in Stockholm and DS was born there so is technically a Swede (or a pumpkin to be seasonal). I watched Relocation tonight and it was based in Stockholm, and for the 1st time since we left I got all nostalgic and really missed the place

sfxmum · 24/10/2007 21:09

KCI have clear memory of you at that Turkish restaurant in Richmond trying out sippy cups

sorry about your friend's loss how awful.

Ros you have truly gone off to the dark side btw is that the movie or the terminally tragic 'reality' show?

COV MIL bless them does she bring nice presents?

rosmonster · 24/10/2007 21:13

no no, sfx, its the movie, does that mean I've got a foot in the dark side?

Sj, you're more than welcome, ds was out like a light tonight so I think he was tired out which is always good! But I was amazed at how well they played together!

foxensteinscreature · 24/10/2007 21:15

Hiya
Sorry hear about our friend's DH Kew - that's really sad, (anti-social git or not..) poorwoman

That s the 3rd guy I've known of in the past two months who's had a sudden heart attack and died

Ros - you are quite decadent

CoV hope you gt bin men sorted

We had a fabby day in Brighton - kids had a whale of a time with host's Dcs who are the same age as mine but there are twice as many of them (she has six)

It was DS2's first social and he loved being with babies his size - he even bonded with the other boy baby (shared snot)

foxensteinscreature · 24/10/2007 21:18

SJ did you get a Swedish maternity package after you had your DS?

rosmonster · 24/10/2007 21:49

Foxie - I also forgot that I had a cup of tea & some chocolate!

Six kids ! I have enough trouble with 1!

SJ99 · 24/10/2007 21:55

Glad you had good trip Foxie, blimey 6 kids your friend must have a her work cut out.

I was on a basic maternity package as I worked on a contract but that still means a 1yr off work. I could've gone back to work after Ds turned 1 but by then we found out we were moving back to the UK so there was no point. Now we're here I thought I'd test the water and suss out part time opportunities.

Swedish maternity package is unbelievably generous with partner/hubby able to also take up to 6mths off in addition to mum's 12mths. The day care is so cheap too, about £300/mth for 30hrs/wk The downside is heavy taxes and lower std of pay

CovenOVeneer · 24/10/2007 21:56

Foxy I will have to post ds2's coat now before he grows out of it. Bear with me , I will attempte to sort it tomorrow morning or friday morning.

SJ99 · 24/10/2007 21:58

Just realised time for a cup of tea myself + Ugly Betty

SJ99 · 24/10/2007 22:00

...and a packet of crisps, feeling peckish

rosmonster · 24/10/2007 22:04

Ros's definition of multitasking: Mumsnet, Scrabulous, Facebook, Dirty Dancing

Kewcumber · 24/10/2007 22:09

antisocial git was meant inthe nicest possible way! Acually I liked him but he wasn't terribly user friendly at social events. No warning signs at all apparently.

Yes Demon gets the coffee - can you beleive it was a year ago I started that thread? In some ways it seems like yesterday in otehr ways I feel like DS has been home forever.

not generallu given to being very soppy but (for an atheist) I'm feeling very blessed right now.

Kew your thread was part of my intro into the west london group, amongst the stress of our move/iving up work/new schools etc I read it (andyour blog) with great interest. Do you have a celebratory date? (By that I mean is there a special day in the adopion process that you will hold special and celebrate for years to come?)

CovenOVeneer · 24/10/2007 22:30

I am tired, on a dodgy laptop and watching tv, so apologise for lousy typing.

AnnaV · 24/10/2007 22:34

Hello!

I am new to this board, not sure exactly how it works so apologies if I am getting this wrong! I am mum to 5 month-old Ava, we live in Teddington and would love to meet some more people in Kingston/Teddington/Hamptons/Richmond way.
