ok this is a good one, don't forget you can put glitter in as well, ds1 like to do that

quokka · 15/06/2007 08:09
  • 1 cup flour (not self-rising)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar

Mix in saucepan over low heat. (It does not have to heat long.) Dough is ready when it rolls into a ball. Keep dough fresh in an airtight container. If you need to make different colors, add food coloring while mixing over heat.

quokka · 15/06/2007 08:10

I do the colour while they are mixing they love it!

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 08:23

cool, thanks quokka, does it have to be veg oil? will expensive extra virgin olive oil not be okay?

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 08:24

Hello quokka,

Nice to "see" you on the thread. I've been beavering on marketing my site so I haven't been around for a while.

I hope your DSs are well now. Did you mean hawker food when you said food hall? Hawker food is notorious for being unhygenic. People put up with it because it's so delicious. They'll probably can only have small quantities of take away food until their bodies are resistant to the germs.

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 08:26

Dd has been having diarrhoea for the last 3 days. My mom says she's teething. I would have thought if it were food poisoning it would have cleared up by now.

Does anyone have similar experiences with their DCs?

quokka · 15/06/2007 08:40

yes the squirts are normal for teething babies, my boys get it bad!

The noodle bar was in a very new shopping center so thought it would be ok??!!

quokka · 15/06/2007 08:41

if it was food poisoning you would have had vomiting as well I would have thought?

quokka · 15/06/2007 08:42

I've only ever used vegtable so not sure but deffo worth a try

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 09:11

Quokka,
Thanks for that. I was getting really worried. Do you cut out dairy and greasy food when they have diarrhoea?

If it isn't hawker food, it sounds like your DSs need to get used to the local water and germs.

Anyway, I hope your family and you are enjoying Singapore.

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 09:13

And how long does the diarrhoea last for your boys, quokka?

foxcub · 15/06/2007 09:24

Make playdo?

eh?

what are shops for?

foxcub · 15/06/2007 09:25

Puds - I keep thinking about the book swap as I still have people's books here

Would be v happy if you want to start a thread

quokka · 15/06/2007 09:26

usually 3-4 days. Its fine to give diary, doctor confirmed that last time ds2 was vomiting and had the squirts - old wives myth, never cut our diary he said! I find greek yogurt tends to sort things out in their belly, but everyone has their way of dealing with it. Bananas, white rice, white bread, avocado, tend to fill up belly's and thicken number 2's sorry if tmi!

quokka · 15/06/2007 09:27

yes but they don't do glitter playdoh!

foxcub · 15/06/2007 09:28

Ohh I like the idea of glitter playdoh

quokka · 15/06/2007 09:30

see, and any colour you want, they can mix colours as well and see them change!

pudding77 · 15/06/2007 09:31

book swap thread

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 09:53

i'm thinking it'll be a good activity to actually make the play-do. I've got blue food colouring and vanilla essence so i'll just have to get some glitter.

then they can play with it while i count the minutes till bedtime!

ps: dd has some pretty full on nappies when teething but i've never really altered her diet. when she really was ill with D&V she didn't want to eat anything anyway.

quokka · 15/06/2007 09:56

the only advice I can give you pc when doing group playdoh is have everything at hand before and let them have a bowl each for mixing. Oh and it will be messy

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:02

i thought you had to mix in a pan over a low heat?

maybe me and dd will make it tomorrow morning and then they can just play with it!

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:04

how long does it take for a jelly to set?

quokka · 15/06/2007 10:07

I mix it in a bowl (they love love that) then pour in the saucepan and cook. Ive done it with 3 before (including ds2)

quokka · 15/06/2007 10:12

couple of hours?

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:16

if i make it today would it be okay for tomorrow eve? the jelly that is!

i'll get all the ingredients for play-do and then see how things go tomorrow regards actually doing it or not i think!

are you going to be our S'pore Martha Steward now Qokka?
