Almost made it to the end of the month. Children are gone. I am free until Sunday lunch

OP posts:
quokka · 15/06/2007 10:19

Jelly will be fine.

quokka · 15/06/2007 10:19

I'm not a jailbird!

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:20

cool, i'll get on with that shortly then.

cheers m'dear!

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:25

ach! what's a little embezzlement between friends i say!

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 10:32

Thanks for all the info, quokka. I really appreciate that info. Sorry everyone if that's tmi for you.

I'm literally starving my poor baby because I was worried that it was going to worsen the situation. It doesn't help that she's a fussy eater.

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 10:42

mellow, if she wants to eat then let her.

if it is teething then you just need to ride it out. if it's something more like a bug and she wants to eat then IMO it will help her fight the bug and get it out of her system.

is she still drinking?

quokka's advice on foods to offer is great. keep it plain and simple but wholesome. don't think it does any harm to keep the greasy/fatty food to a minimum when they've got an upset tummy.

my dr has always said to avoid dairy when dd's had a bug too. i've never stopped giving her milk but i have cut out cheese and yoghurt for a few days.

tbh, i think dd is a little lactose intolerant so i keep yoghurt and cheese to alternate days and it seems to help keep her chest clear and make her less wheezy iyswim!

hope your dd's on the mend soon.

mellow2 · 15/06/2007 10:45

Thanks PC. I will be stuffing her with banana and avocados and white rice. Plenty of leftover rice in the flat. [bad mother alert]

Yes, dd is drinking loads of water.

I find that dd has bad nappies when she has too much cow's milk. But she's fine with goat's milk. I have the same problem too and I find that I can have gallons of goat's milk without suffering any side effects.

quokka · 15/06/2007 10:46

thats fine mellow - like I said everyone has their own method, some would cut out diary but after the doc said that to me I personally wouldn't cut diary - but each to their own hey. Hope she gets better soon. She's a late teether (like ds1) so her gums are quite tough for her teeth to come through, so teething might be a bit worse for her.

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 11:03

dd was on rice milk in cooking till 12m and then i introduced cows milk which just increased as she self weaned. she prob drinks about a pint a day now!

she definately gets less active and more wheezy if she has a lot of dairy over a period of time. so she only has yoghurt 2 or 3 times a week nowadays.

i stole quokka's greek yoghurt and honey idea

oh and i stole her lunchtime wraps idea too

in fact Quokka, where are those meal planners you said you'd do for me?!

d'you think i could make rissoles with pork mince?

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 11:13

i just made a jelly for the first time!

oi! martha, tell me if i've got some cans of mandarin segments that say use by Dec 05 should i chuck 'em out?

quokka · 15/06/2007 12:01

you can make rissoles out of any kind of meat! Actually beef and pork mince are really nice as the pork has alot of fat but beef doesn't - so they don't dry out.

As soon as I find a decent supermarket here will do some meal planners, but they will have an asian flavour! I made chicken terriyaki with rice and brocoli and they loved that. Just get terriyaki marinade let them soak for at an hour then fry or grill chick, cook rice and brocoli and bobs your uncle! Would be good with salmon instead of chicken [mmm]

quokka · 15/06/2007 12:02

try leaving the tin in the sun and see if it explodes

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 12:11

oooh okay! it's sunny today - will run out to the yard now.

now there's another reason to miss having a garden!

btw, didn't get the flat i viewed on monday so dilemma solved !

quokka · 15/06/2007 12:17

fate, the right one will come along

Kewcumber · 15/06/2007 13:16

I never liked it anyway...

Paddle do you want me to come over and help later afternoon tomorrow I know it will add one more child but 4 kids 2 adults sounds more manageable to me than 3 kids one adult! Text me if you do, it's no prob. Can stay until 6.45 latest

Kewcumber · 15/06/2007 13:18

Melloe DS gets the runs when teething but generally not too badly - but one particular time it was so bad that he had nappy rash that looked like thrid degree burns - had to use etanium AND vasoline on top at night as a barrier and had to change him the second he poohed or wee'd.

Dentists say it a myth but all dentists I know who are mothers (must ask COV) admit that there does seem to be a link.

Lasted 3 or 4 days and I didn;t change his diet

Kewcumber · 15/06/2007 13:24

Oh and I had good news today (you will all be VERY blase about this) I have been aproved to receive child benefit for DS .... AND.... they're going to backdate it to late Jan so I get a nice back payment of about £300. (can I blow it on a digital TV for the bedroom [blush?)

Eleusis · 15/06/2007 13:30

That's cool about the child benefit.

PS I notice you were on mumsnet last night after I left. You are sadder than I am.

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 13:32

ooh KC, it did cross my mind if you might like to come over with ds and join in the bedlam!

anticipate that my mates will head off to the gig about 3ish but am expecting them to say they're not going to leave till 5ish or something. gates open at 2:45 for support acts.

you'd be welcome to come over after ds's nap and stay for tea (DC tea I mean not grown up tea, I've got the Chinese on short dial for when they've all crashed out!). it'll be something very simple and nutricious like fishfingers and chips or pesto pasta - and I made a jelly!!!

my strategy for bathtime is to get dd and fds (friend's ds) bathed together whilst fdd helps "like a big girl" then when they're settled fdd can have her bath (quietly LOL) and go off to bed too.

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 13:33

definately a very good investment of CB IMO. especially as it won't be long before you re-locate said digital TV in ds's bedroom

Kewcumber · 15/06/2007 14:07

Ele - I was only on for 10 mins!

OK Paddle we'll come over after his nap and for tea tomorrow. Want me to bring anything?

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 14:36

cool, yep if you could bring dish/plate etc for ds as i've only got what dd uses that would be great.

other than that, nothing required unless a change of clothes should the play-do get messy!

Eleusis · 15/06/2007 14:39

Anyone been to Croatia? I'm pondering a mid week holiday in September. The idea is to dump kids on nanny Monday morning, fly off somewhere not too far with DH, and comback in time for her to get off work at usual time on Friday (which is 7:00pm).

Kewcumber · 15/06/2007 14:42

not been myself but my ex used to take refuge in Croatia just over the border from their ffice in Bosnia when the bombing get particulary bad/accurate . Was working for the UN I should add.

Paddlechick666 · 15/06/2007 14:44

me neither personally but friends have gone and say it's fabulous.

there's an island off the coast that is very popular but i can't remember what it's called. sorry
