The brand new general chit-chat thread

OP posts:

We had the bucketing/thundering/howling too mid-late morning yesterday. Very impressive!

Uwila, if you're around could you give some advice to bubblebell on this thread ? Sounds like she really ought to be having a c/s this time around but is being treated badly by her consultant, and you're the expert on how to kick up the appropriate sort of fuss...

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 10:51

hi mellow

it's www.adili.com and they seem to be a central point of ethical shopping from various brands that offer eco conscious fashion.

they're supplying cut4cloth and patagonia stuff for example. don't think they actually manufacture anything.

so they'll be buying at cost and marking up i assume.

some of it, like £30 for a hoody, isn't too bad but £75 jeans just aren't in my budget!

are you planning to make the clothes yourself? don't be trying to pretend you're not creative missis!

uwila · 08/12/2006 10:52

I'm here. Trying to catch up with mumsnet and quite a lot of work. Nanny is not better. I am at work and DH is covering today.

Nannies? Caesarean? I should staart charging. Just kidding, I'm on my way....

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 11:00

Yeah, I've seen the adili site. It's quite a good site but as you said, it's quite expensive. Fancy your mom's friend owning that. What a small world.

I'm planning on getting clothes designed in Far East and manufactured in HK/China when I think the biz is viable. That's the plan anyway.

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 11:07

Great website Mellow, I didn't even know you were doing anything like this! I might do the xmas cards a day next week you can always crash our glitter party.

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 11:17

Mellow I've got 15 yrs experience in Retail (fashion and homewares), so if you need any help just ask.

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 11:18

I would love to crash your glitter party. Just let me know when. I'm hopeless with stuff like this. Could use some expert help.

I'll bring along a stencil and some paper, and talented dd of course.

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 11:20

I would love to bend your ear on my new venture. Maybe we could combine that with the glitter party.

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 11:36

MrsR lovely to meet your little ds, my ds1 has been talking about him ever since .

Mellow, Wed or Thurs are good for me? Otherwise Fri arvo?

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 11:37

now a glitter party sounds like a lot of fun!

wish i could come too - but only day off next week is Tues and there's a possibility i may be a little "under the weather"

don't want to jinx anything but DH has agreed to see dr so is coming here Monday and has asked if I'd like to go out Monday evening. Nanny has agreed to babysit so looks like I'm having a night out with my husband!!!!

mind you, anything could happen between now and then so............ finger's x'd tho.

mellow, i met the guy this summer too. he lives in the village where my mum does. it really is high end value stuff which is obviously lovely but totally out of my reach.

it would be great if you could offer something ethical and affordable and of course beautiful - you'd be quids in real quick i reckon.

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 12:02

How about Wed? What time would suit you?

snowfallatxmasmum · 08/12/2006 13:01

apparently Richmond is the fittest place in Britain
oh
fell like i am letting the side down

pudding77 · 08/12/2006 13:32

Hi everyone, pc is no longer in the living room so can only get onto MN when ds is asleep. I used to leave him playing to have a quick look !

MrsR: thanks for the email, I'll give him a call!
T2bg: I've CAT-ted you!
MrsB: have you opened them yet? Can't wait to see them in print

Off to get some lunch in the small window I have while ds is asleep!

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 13:33

Wed arvo 3pm? Might try and take lo's to music class in the morning, haven't been for yonks!

trying2bgood · 08/12/2006 13:53

Mellow - wow you creative so and so. Am very impressed with your get up and go! I am still trying to get the energy to go make dinner!

Quokka - glitter party, pray tell?

Pudding - have emailed you the details.

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 14:08

t2bg just making xmas cards with glitter and glue. You can come around after dd's tennis amd join the mess if you like?

PC I hope it all goes well for you!

Pudding I couldn't survive if my computer wasn't in the family room.

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 14:31

quokka,
Wed 3 pm then.

pud,
I couldn't live without my notebook. I even struggle with not taking it on holidays . Sad, I know.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 08/12/2006 14:38

Just popping in for a quickie..as the actress said to the Bishop.

Paddle - tomorrow is fine - what time is best 4 U?

will pop back later after school run (scurries off to get decent parking space outside school...)

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 14:41

i am addicted to my laptop but am generally pretty ticked off if i go somehwere and there's no wifi!!!

thanks Quokka!

dd has been accepted by the model agency!! just have to decide now if it's worth signing her up. it costs a bit of money but all the low price/free agencies have closed their books or don't want her.

how anyone could not want her i don't know LOL!

she'd have to do 4 hours work to re-coup the initial outlay, after that it's profit profit profit!

ha! who needs India and Nike for a bit of child labour/exploitation LOL

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 14:52

Lol at PC and child exploitation. Fingers crossed for you , PC.

I have to say that I was pretty tempted by the BT Total Broadband offer on the basis they offer 250 wifi mins a month with the package. Then I could lug my notebook everywhere with me.

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 15:03

how does that work then mellow? you'd still have to have a local wifi network to plug into wouldn't you?

there are hundreds of them around the UK, like Starbucks and stuff. i thought I could just rock up to some hotel or coffee shop and jump on their wifi.

do i have to have some BT option set up? we're on BT broadband but am seriously thinking of switching to telewest soon.

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 15:05

foxie, got no plans whatsoever for tomorrow

how about 11ish and then i might take dd to C&C in the afternoon to tire her out!

mellowchristmas · 08/12/2006 15:07

Not sure, PC. I imagine you can log in to participating wifi hot spots. Check out the link.

www.broadbandopenzone.bt.com/

pudding77 · 08/12/2006 15:09

Back again! We've just swapped our internet to Telewest from BT, but now dh has to get a new something or other and once we have that I can use the laptop in the living room and be on MN all the time!!

Mellow - had a quick look at your website, looks good. Can't wait to see your stock when you get it!

T2bg - I got your email thanks!

Btw, does anyone know where I can get a blackout roller blind in a 'kids room' material that doesn't cost a fortune? I've tried all the usual suspects but they only do plain blackouts...
