I hate it when dh works from home... I don't get computer time... took me ages to catch up

Pudding, opened pictures and looking good we're going to Harrods tomorrow but otherwise not much planned so let me know when you want to come and pick them up.

OP posts:
Nanou1 · 08/12/2006 16:41

you ok mrsb?

hoxohoxohoxo · 08/12/2006 17:06

Pudding: we got IKEA black out blinds for DS room : £20. Work perfectly and have lasted almost 3 yrs now.
When we bought the first lot for what is now dd's room and our bedroom they cost over £250 each!
IKEA's cut to fit. Buy them in white and stencil them. I've got stencils (train, football) if you want to borrow.

Job's a good'un.

hoxohoxohoxo · 08/12/2006 17:09

Oh - and broadband... We are with telewest and were paying £120 a month for TV, telephone and broadband. After reading Sunday Times articel a couple of weeks abck about surplus of providers, I called them and told them I'd leave unless they would give me a better rate. They cut it to £60/ month

hoxohoxohoxo · 08/12/2006 17:56

can someone explain what FLY means? There's always FLYING today threads and I'm a bit lost

harktheheraldfoxessing · 08/12/2006 17:58

Paddle - 11 is fine. Don't come early unless you want a scare (me without my face on is not a nice sight!!)

I have some advice from a friend plus a norton anti virus disc but am scared to load it or delete anything on my own!

Just dashing out to Wagamamas with my bookclub girls

2quokkasandapeartree · 08/12/2006 19:27

oxo flying is a term for cleaning I think. They have different rooms every day, I think it's meant to keep you on top of the cleaning . Silly me I thought thats what cleaners are for!

pudding77 · 08/12/2006 19:36

flying isn't just the cleaning - it's all the little jobs you never get done such as hoovering behind furniture, cleaning your porch etc. Bit too much for me, I can just about keep up with the basics

hoxohoxohoxo · 08/12/2006 19:43

and there's a THREAD for that?

as you say Quokka, surely there's a CLEANER for that. Assume having a different room each day is the equivalent of a work out video for cleanaholics, a bit of encouragement or whatever. All together now girls: sweep, sweep, brush, brush

pudding77 · 08/12/2006 19:44

lol oxo!

dh is out at his work's xmas do so just about to order a takeaway & pick a film to watch!

see you later!

snowfallatxmasmum · 08/12/2006 19:45

oh lordy the fly lady website
that much obsessing with cleaning just isn't natural!
so what is wrong with a bit of dirt how will a child build an immune system i ask you?
at least that is my excuse

Paddlechick666 · 08/12/2006 20:13

FLY? as in "fly away duster, fly away polish"?

this is most definately what cleaners are for - maybe it's like the Childminder Club thread?

maybe our cleaners are on there discussing how slovenly we are and that our children will have some heinous diseases because we don't dust behind the bog!

more wine please...........

pud, what take away did you have? yummy! i got a frozen curry ready meal out and am looking forward to that.

dvd is bust, telly is rubbish

we had telewest/sky bidding war going on for a while when we moved. your deal is marvelous hoxo.

foxie, i can come later if 11am is too early?

trying2bgood · 08/12/2006 21:52

Quokka - would have loved to come but have just found out today that her nursery play and party is wedneday afternoon. She does not actually attend nursery on that day so am getting a freebie! I have to get my mum to come over though as they are only allowing children aged 18 months and 4 years to attend!!! So I need her to babysit dd2 or else dd1 cannot go. I think that rule is a little strange!

I dream of having a cleaner.....never going to happen though!

Had a strange night, was suppose to meet a good friend of mine at southbank, but the cafe she was suppose to be in was closed due to a b-day party and she does not own a mobile phone. Waited and looked around but could not see her so went home to sandwiches . And to make matters worse the dvd sent to us from tesco dvd rental does not work! Oh well just one of those days!

2Cute · 09/12/2006 13:50

Yawn yawn...afternoon all. Am I already too old to go out til early hours? My clubbing days are but a faint memory...

Went out with friends for our Christmas night out. If anyone hasn't disovered it yet (like I hadn't) I definately recommend Thai Pin in St Mags. Nice little setting and fab food yum yum! You probably know it well Hoxo? Then went to a bar/club.

Paddle - So pleased for you re: DH's appt and dinner proposal. Will keep my fingers crossed your you

MrsB - How are you feeling?

Quokka - Love the idea of the glitter party, can I crash in on that? I've got cards, stickers and glitter at home as I DS like making cards but thought it'd be fun having the kids do it togther. You're more than welcome to come round mine for a change if y'all like.

Pudding - How are you all settling in? Lots to do still?

Mellow - Website looks great

2Cute · 09/12/2006 13:52

Have a good weekend all.

2Cute · 09/12/2006 13:54

Re: spelling mistakes in my post...I am THAT tired

2quokkasandapeartree · 09/12/2006 19:05

2cute, you can come, do you have my email?

harktheheraldfoxessing · 09/12/2006 20:03

Hi everyone

PC is up the creek

Paddle - thanks for loading norton. I decided to let you go after 6 hours work - you must be exhausted. No more pop ups but slooooooooooowwwwer. Maybe its a sign I should get out more? ?

snowfallatxmasmum · 09/12/2006 20:20

hello all

had a lovely day starting with visit to hairdresser lazy shopping around town with plenty of coffee breaks and a trip to feed the ducks at Kew. all with dh doing most of the childcare - i am clearly easily pleased.
and he took care of dinner toonow child asleep glass of wine with those moorish winter spiced honey roast nuts from M&S they should be illegal!

hope you all ok

Paddlechick666 · 09/12/2006 21:40

oh no Foxie, I was worried about the speed of your machine. Try deleting the temp internet files again, and empty the recycle bin. there was heaps of that when the system scan was running.

apart from that i think it's just a question of getting some more lead in your pencil i'm afraid.

wish i could;ve done more.

harktheheraldfoxessing · 10/12/2006 08:24

Paddle, will try and do that. If it doesn't help, I may ask your advice again about what to buy at PC world if that's OK [grovel, grovel emoticon].

Thanks again for your help yesterday.

DH knows where the stairgate is, but he says it requires screws. I'll ask him to have a look at it later though, to double check.

Snowy - those nuts sounds yum. I will have to try some of those I think (protein for the bump etc etc)

hoxohoxohoxo · 10/12/2006 08:40

HI all
we are going to interview a potential nanny today. Wish me luck
am hoping to get one in place before christmas , even though not starting until mid-jan.
paddle: will keep you posted - how are you getting on with your one?

Foxy: I bought our pc through pc world. they washed hands completely when teh screen was faulty, about 2 days later. I ahd to go to HP direct (who were, eventually, fab). pc world is cheap, but has absolutely NO back up or support. my 'computer' guy despairs of them , but is happy as he gets most of his work from their customers, or DEll.
He strongly recommennds buying off internet. He could have saved me over £70 off pc world price. Worth a thought.

Off in search of Mary Poppins now. Will probably get the physco from the hand that rocks the cradle instead.Xmas Sad

Paddlechick666 · 10/12/2006 09:41

foxie, been doing some web searching and the main causes for slow running after installation are that there is other AV software still installed or the machine is low capacity.

well, we know we deleted all the other symantec and norton stuff so unless you've got something like macafee on there it's likely to be your pc's capacity i'm afraid.

hoxo is probably right in that PC World are cheap and (notso)cheerful with little support/backup. they try to flog you that and that's where they make the money.

dell have got a good deal online at the mo with what they call an entry level home pc for £279 inc vat. haven't looked mega close at the spec but i should imagine it'd do all you wanted.

i'd still recommend boosting your broadband package so you get those extra features.

more than happy to help/advise with a bit of shopping LOL!

if you've got the time and the know how you can build your own system and really get something clever for a reasonable price but tbh, i'm more a laptop person than desktop so not very clever on that front!

of course, we actually have a HUGE desktop sitting in the loft doing nothing........ perhaps I should ask dh if he wants to sell it?

hoxo, good luck. let me know how you go. mine is still all good but it's a question of what time she can give me in the NY. especially as dd now seems about to launch her modelling career!

going to kew this arvo if anyone's up for a stroll..........

mellowchristmas · 10/12/2006 10:27

Foxie,

I highly recommend Dell for problem-free computing. When I had PCs, I had a Dell computer and then a Dell notebook and they last a long time without problems. Mine was problem-free for a good 3 years. I've got an iBook now, which doesn't last as long, but I'm a sucker for Macs so I put up with it.

mellowchristmas · 10/12/2006 10:28

"Mine were", I mean
