So that Uwilalalalala doesn't get offended by us bookworms - or would like to be bookworms if we had the time...

Mellow - they sound really interesing. I reckon a Jewish/Chinese writer ticks both the middle eastern and Chinese boxes!

I'd love to see them both if you don't mind bringing them!

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 14:32

mellow i am interested in any chinese as well, we have a chinese friend who is very critical of most chinese writers , not sure whyshe was here at the weekend and i forgot to ask for recomendations, she is a librarian too

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 14:33

forget the too where did that come from...

pudding77 · 29/11/2006 14:39

Foxie - I will bring Handmaids Tale & I Capture the Castle for you.

Paddle - I can bring Wicked if you like...

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 14:55

ooh yes please

trying2bgood · 29/11/2006 15:38

A handmaid's tale and I capture the castle are both great books - enjoy! I studies the first one for my A-levels and have notes scribbled all over it! Looking back it is funny how at 16-18 I had so much to say about a book! Brain cells have since gone on holiday...........

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 19:03

T2BG - its funny isn't it? I did my MSc two years ago while PG and with a three year old and commuting across London. When I think back, I just think "that must have been another person!". I can barely remember where my front door keys are nowadays - Lord only knows how I managed to sudy and have "views" on things

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 21:16

sfx, deff I will fear no evil. glad to hear my ma isn't only guilt tripper! flapjacks will be delish coz everything she makes is!

pud, yes please!

started state of the union this arvo at the hairdresser but already dislike the main character ;-(

looking forward to saturday!

harktheheraldfoxessing · 29/11/2006 21:22

Paddle - I hope you like State of the Union, I really enjoyed it recently. Its masssive but easy to read. She has some real adventures

My mouth is watering at the very mention of flapjacks; one of my very favourite things on the planet!

Paddlechick666 · 29/11/2006 21:27

i've enjoyed all of his other stuff so hoping i warm to Hannah. at the mo she's just a bit unreal with her whole Dan the Country Dr love affair. and the mother just sounds tooo awful!

whatever else, my mother makes FABULOUS flapjacks but they're not like shop bought!

pudding77 · 29/11/2006 21:38

I'm aiming to make a banana raisin cake but may have to bring shop-bought... Just a warning!

I love baking but really don't seem to get the time for it now. Or when I do I'm too exhausted.

sfxmum · 29/11/2006 21:48

me too pudding and if i manage it there is no guaranty it will make it past dh

pudding77 · 30/11/2006 08:15

Well, I won't have a problem with dh eating it but I will have to keep our cat away from it

harktheheraldfoxessing · 30/11/2006 08:33

oooh Paddle, have you got any of Douglas Kennedy's other books???

mellowchristmas · 30/11/2006 08:36

sfx,

You're welcome to look at the Pearl S Buck books. However, I don't have any books by Chinese authors with me, the ones I have are in Malaysia. But I could recommend some books I enjoyed if you like.

To recap, my want list
MrsB - Magic Kingdom series, Spellsinger series and Redemption of Althalus
Sfx - The Half Brother
Foxie - Resistance by Anita Shreve
PC - Time Enough for Love by Heinlen

Paddlechick666 · 30/11/2006 09:29

mellow: no prob it's reserved for you.

foxie, possibly but there are boxes of books strewn around the shed/attic and i just can't get to them. sorry! also they may have gone during a boot sale last summer.

i'll bring a selection of other stuff i have - jodi picoult etc - and you can browse.

as for baked or shop bought: YUMMY YUMMY whatever ;-)

should we bring some extra tea and coffee and milk Fox? don't want to wipe you out!

sfxmum · 30/11/2006 09:46

hello all

ok on the books i might add a couple more and bring them along, must remeber big bag.

i really must sort out that Bookworm programme, that way you can browse online and make requests convinient i think

and yes foxie let us know if any extras are needed, don't you also have the builders in? (there goes the milk tea and sugar)

mellowchristmas · 30/11/2006 10:05

sfx,
I forgot to ask, can you point me to your dh's Plum tribute site?

sfxmum · 30/11/2006 10:17

of course mellow

Plum
it is an old site and the first he ever did year ago, he keeps promising he will revamp but never finds the time, there are also links to personal stuff sorry, but don't mind if you see it of course

sfxmum · 30/11/2006 10:27

actually i must ask him if that is the proper version seems odd now i had a look at it, will ask him tonight, seem to remeber him telling me about changes i don't see

harktheheraldfoxessing · 30/11/2006 10:55

Pc - nah, I've got the day off tomorrow so will make sure I've got teabags etc. I've got some apple juice and bikkies/ginger bread men for the little monsters - can they all drink/eat that? Well, the ones with teeth anyway.

MrsBojangles · 01/12/2006 11:29
