I am coming, I am coming. Just not on MN much at the moment. I'll not be around until after the bank holiday, but you can guarantee I am coming.

Uwila · 18/08/2006 08:14

Oh, good fisil.

Good luck today, fatfox. It will be fine. What time is the scan?

Regarding the childminder, I'm actually trying to find someone in Twickenham. DD will need to be dropped off at school in Twickenham for a 2 1/2 hour nursery session right by the Green in Twickenham. So, while I could put up with dropping them off in Hampton Hill, I don't think that minder would want to do the school run. If you (or anyone else reading this) knows of a childminder who would be willing to do this school run, I'd really appreciate recommendations.

MrsBigD · 18/08/2006 08:28

fatfox I'm sure you'll be fine I had a major scare when pg with dd as the test came back 1/15 chance of downs... she's fine and actually too bright for her own good

SJ stop panicking now! You'll have plenty of time once you actually have the date

hello fatfox
I am around on Monday 21st if you want to meet up; we can share nuchal stories which all turn out fine. YOu say you are worried about age - What age are you to be so worried? I was also a 'geriatic mother' - oh the shame of it!!

I am thinking of going to Duke St church kids thing at 10.30 - does anyone know if it is any good? It's Monday and Thursday next week for 2 - 4 year olds. If it's no good then we will go to library (if raining) or Richmond green with a football if weather ok.

fatfox · 18/08/2006 10:58

Hi there

You people are so kind, I got a lump in my throat reading your e-mails this morning (must be the mummy hormones).

Sue, if you're around, do you fancy a coffee sometime soon? My mobile is 07779-289-041. I'm dying to meet you anyway, as I'm following closely your quest to adopt from Kazachstan.

Xoxoxo - would like to do Duke St Monday if you like - it would take my mind off hospitals etc. Is that the church on Richmond roundabout?

Uwila, I have a scan at Queen Charlotes at 2pm today, then a private set of tests - I think its caled OSCAR, at The Fetal Medicine Centre on Monday at 3.30pm. DH is coming to the Monday one, but the children are coming to both! Today's nuchal should be 80% accurate in erms of risk, the one on Monday is much more thorough and gives 97% accuracy. I've kind of decided that if I get a bad result, I'll have a CVS at the FMC (hopefully next Weds) as other mumsnetters say that Proff. Nicolaides does them himself and I want to meet him, as I've seen him on the telly and will be able to tell my Mum I've met him! No, seriously, I think he's probably the best person in London to do one, most experiences etc.

MrsBig D - I have a lovely image of you, from your name! Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Quokka - I actually did sleep and dreamt about scans!!! But slept OK, as PG hormones making me so drousy.

Fisil - welcome, can't wait to meet you. I only joined on Friday, so am another newbie.

Uwila · 18/08/2006 11:07

So, you're booked into QC for the birth, then? I had DS there last May (2005). They were lovely. The midwives were a bit opinionated. But, the memdical team in theatre were positively fab.

fatfox · 18/08/2006 11:23

Uwila

Glad you thought highly of QC. I had DS at Kingston (dreadful place in my opinion, though I know most people disagree) and DD at West Mid. West Mid is midwife led and they were wonderful, but sadly no longer take people from our area . I've only heard good things about QC, so am looking forward to it.

Did you use one of their famous birthing rooms? What was the birth like? I had a natural one with DS and felt like I'd been hit by a bus afterwards. With DD had an induction, and the needle in the back etc it was great!

quokka · 18/08/2006 11:32

Fat fox I used the birthing room for both ds's and they were great, dh even had his own bed in our own room. Mind you I only stayed 6hrs after I had ds2 so we didn't really need it. I even had the same midwife for both biths. She remembered my dh rather than me as he has a wicked sense of humour!

MrsBigD · 18/08/2006 11:41

I had ds at QC. Had a bit of a wait because of Baby boom in September due to xmas induced frolicking, and some emergencies. But generally staff were very nice. As Uwila said some of the midwives a bit opinionated, but I had to spend the night in recovery because I lost a bit too much blood during cs and it was bliss. Morphine on tab and midwives taking ds off me or helping me to latch him on, whichever was required.

Uwila · 18/08/2006 12:09

Birthing Centre? Hell no. More of section girl myself.

Seriously DD was an emergency section and I was not prepared to risk doing that again. And I wasn't very confident with the VBAC success rates. So went with a section.

fatfox · 18/08/2006 12:15

Uwila

Only 1 hour to go until I leave for my scan. Must remember to get the children dressed before we leave.....

Uwila · 18/08/2006 12:22

Nah, just take them as they are.

You'll be fine.

sfxmum · 18/08/2006 12:26

guess better start reading and getting to know you all

best wishes fatfox

thanks for welcome on stats thread

fatfox · 18/08/2006 12:39

MY DS woke up at 9.15am and is still in her pull ups!!! Please don't tell social services! They are both happily eating at the moment, then I'll get them dressed!

fatfox · 18/08/2006 16:57

How do I delete that last message?

CountessDracula · 18/08/2006 17:01

oh fatfox I wouldn't bother we have all done it!

fatfox · 18/08/2006 17:08

West London girls

Thanks for being there for me last night and this morning when I was going a bit mad with worry.

Went to QC Hospital and found a parking space straight away, which I always think is a good sign..... Children didn't embarass me too much in the waiting room either.

Had the scan and the results were:

Risk of downs for my age (will be 43): 1:36!adjusted risk after nuchal scan 1:167
Thickness of nuchal fold: 1.7 mm (which is well within low risk range), sonographer said its "a nice slim nuchal fold"
Nasal bone present (although not reflected in risk calculation, 'cos QC don't do that)

Therefore although my adjsted risk is more than 1:300, its a very good result for someone of my.... er.. maturity.

I have FMC tests on Monday which will look more closely at nasal bone, heart valves etc and also do blood analysis. Hopefully bloods won't point to anything risky. My brother has Downs and has both a perfect heart and a normal nose, but I still think the nuchal results were good today.

I have nice pics now of Beanie, although it still doesn't feel real somehow.

Anyway thanks for your support when I needed it!!!

xoxoxo · 18/08/2006 17:16

fatfox
duke st church is in the road off the main shopping street, the one with the nice deli in it, and the big pub that used to be a firkin pub. I think. If not, you may see me wandering around looking stressed with two screaming kids in tow. Or in Paul's bakery bribing them with cakes and myself with coffee. (heck, I might just do that anyway)
My mobile is 07771 544790; if anyone else is around on Monday then pls come along - the more the merrier etc etc..

CountessDracula · 18/08/2006 17:17

great news!

suejonez · 18/08/2006 17:19

fatfox · 18/08/2006 17:28

Xoxoxo

My mobile is 07779-289-041, so will see you on Monday and will call if I can't find it. Don't you just love Paul's bakery? I've only been once and spent £6 on croissants alone, which the children and I devoured within 10 minutes of returning home. Its wonderful.

Sue, I'm around tomorrow, so we could meet after lunch for a coffee if that's OK with you. You can practice your Russian on me. How about Starbucks if its dry and M&S if its pouring (so we can drive and park!)?

How will we know each other? I'm young looking and very attractive

suejonez · 18/08/2006 17:33

tomorrow after lunch is fine - what time do you call after lunch.

You won't miss me - I'm tall (5'9") and fat (some prefer to say cuddly but thats a bit coy for my liking) - medium brown hair, medium brown eyes, medium brown freckles. I have been described by other MN'ers as "friendly-looking", though my office wouldn't agree.

My mobile is 07808 929988

foxinsocks · 18/08/2006 17:36

hi sue, I know I'm not on your list but just to avoid any confusion (in case someone mentioned my name!), I can't make it (or the Kew meeting) as we are off on hols for the next few weeks.

suejonez · 18/08/2006 17:38

hmmmmph [spurned emoticon] - so is your holiday SOOO much more important than dinner at my house then?
